Are these people out of their minds!

So I went to the mall today which is one of the largest in the US. There was so many people it was unreal! How can it be that all year people wait till this very moment to get crazy shopping? It took me at least 45 minutes just to get out of the parking lot. I was tired and just angry by the time I left the place. People filled the mall from wall to wall as if they were giving something away for free.

So this makes me think... all these people most likely have a different idea then I do about Christmas. The meaning of Christmas is certainly not about the gifts and the malls as we all know it's much more then that. I tried to keep my nerves calm and that was an even all in itself. I am so tired right now it's not even funny. 2 kids at home right now and trying to stay awake.

Why do we get like this at this time of the year? We can shop all year around and we pick this time of the year to go nuts buying things we really don't need. As I was walking through the mall I was keeping myself in check by not feeling the urge to buy things that I didn't need. The temptation is overwelming then the guilt afterwards just kills me that I spend all that money in such a selfish way. How do you keep in check? How do you use your relationship with Christ to avoid going overboard on such things. We never needs these things we are just a large part of the marketing plan these companies have to catch us in the spending loop.

I have certainly become more frugal over the years because it's amazing how much money you will save when you stop spending even on the smallest of things. I think if we all spent more energy on our relationship with Christ as we do with shopping we'd all be much richer in a much more meaningful way.

So 2 days before Christmas and I am still handing in there. I'm just tired right now.

Your life is truly blessed to have a good believing husband and two children. It is clear that the Lord has also blessed you with material things to be able to spend on what you desire. It is great to have financial blessings. If you feel your spending is out of control perhaps you can meditate on the following.

a) Being a good financial steward of God has blessed us with. EVERYTHING we have or "own" is actually given to us by the Lord to be stewards while on earth. God is watching how we manage our possessions. Being a good steward includes blessing others that are in need or to give towards the spreading of the gospel. There are many good Christian ministries that can do great exploits for the Lord with more financial support. Every soul they reach or bless will mean dividends for you for eternity!

Remember one day we have to give an account of all that God entrusted us with while during our life here.

b) The bible warns us against "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life". When we are tempted to buy things we do not need, it is usually to feed the lust of the eyes and because of the pride of life. It makes us feel good that we can "afford" to buy what we like (pride) and to show off to visitors our possessions. We should rejoice and be proud of being a child of the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings and not need possessions to give us a sense of achievement.

I have been walking with the Lord for 28 years and have learned much. The Lord has blessed me tremendously both spiritually and financially and is still teaching me that He has blessed me to BE A BLESSING! God bless you and your family as you desire to live to please Him.
