planting

I have been thinking lately about this parable in Isiah28 vs 23 to 29 Not going to type the whole thing out. It is about gardening. Basically, it tells how to plant things. The end of the parable states "All this is a gift from God marvellous advice leading to great achievements. Often times in church I hear about the harvest. It is thrown about like every one should realize what Christians mean. The harvest is this but the workers are few. Which got me to thinking on this parable. How good is a harvest if no one knows how to plant? What if they don't know how to take care of the crop as it grows? I would like to achieve much. I started meditating on this parable and thinking more and more on it. The only time we hear about planting seeds in church is basically when some one wants a donation. The problem here is they don't tell you what the seed is often and what will be grown out of it or how it will be cared for. Are you planting wheat or corn? squash or cucumbers? I think if we learn to not only throw out seed and harvest, but learn to care and plant we will make more to be harvested.

The more I got to think on this the more I thought it fit every part of life. It applied to church, work, money, family, and even the food we bring into the home. With the cost of living going out of control this parable is more applicable today than ever before.

Take the simple chore of Grocery shopping. If you apply this parable to shopping, you will find things last longer. Often times I go to the store with out a list. With out even a game plan on what I need or how long it has to last. I throw things into the basket and go home unload. I found this to be ineffective. At the end of the month I'm kinda hungry. So I started thinking about it. My groceries became seed to be planted. fresh fruit for instance have to be cared for differently than frozen or canned. Yet often I eat what I want at the time. Now I care for my groceries like a farmer. I eat the fresh first always. then the frozen then the canned. How I buy things have changed. I know now to buy for purpose. I don't just throw in any seed into my pantry. I think what shall I use this for. Can I make more than one meal out of it? If I can that cuts out other things I don't need to buy. "will it work for lunch for work to?" If so that is less I have buy there. I go to the bread store for my breads. I know I can freeze the bread for awhile. cutting my cost in half for things like bread and hamburger buns. Often the bread store has honey buns and snacks at almost half the cost. This supplies my son with sweets. So my honey is harvested at half the price.

I have also changed my whole kitchen, I store things differently. I keep them in order of use. fresh first. instead of putting things like apples in the fridge I place some on the cabinet to be seen and eaten. storing other things like jellies in the back. I also put every thing in ziplock or air tight containers to keep it fresh longer.

But most importantly I pray as I put my food up. This works. Honestly works. My food last longer. Good example of an apple i had in the fridge. It was almost a month or more old. My niece wanted to eat it. I was unsure but when I cut it open it was fresh as the day I bought it. I thank God for that. He answers prayers.

So I have begun applying the parable to the very mundane thing of buying food. And now I have to much food. actually to be honest I have an abundance. Yet I live on the lowest end of the income bracket. I've gone from worry to wealth in my kitchen. Just by realizing how to plant and care for my seed of food. I can't wait to apply this to other parts of my life.
