Christian Counseling Case Study 2

Welcome to the Second Case Study In Christian Counseling. The purpose of this blog entry is to help each other become better Christ Centered Counselors within the church.

Name: Case_Study_2 - The struggling writer

Age: c 55

Date: November 24, 2008

HISTORY: This individual was raised in the church and father was a pastor. He stats that he has been saved since an early age, now a Christian for 40+ years, but still struggles with his Christian walk.

DRUG USE: He has never used drugs and claims that he does not drink alcohol.

STATEMENT OF FAITH: He has been saved for over 40 years. He states he loves the Lord with all of his heart, soul, strength, and mind.

SIGNS OF NEW CREATION: He spends most of his time-sharing the Word of God with others in forms of poetry. He claims his Christian walk has been an up and down roller coaster.

STRUGGLES: There is a disconnection between his wife and him for the past 5 years. They do not sleep in the same bed and rarely communicate with each other.

When he is in his Up state, he spend most of his time writing poetry about the Lord and comforting others. However, when hes on his down slide, he feels unworthy. He feels as if he is not doing enough. He feels that he has failed in many areas, especially the Lord Jesus.

He states that he does not read the Word much because he does not like to read, but understands that he should be reading a lot more.

He does attend periodically his churches men's group, however, when he is in his down slide he tends to disappear and not pick up the phone when others try to reach out to him.

A couple of years ago he wrote a Christmas play that the church really enjoyed. The Lord has used his writing skills to reach out to many including youth. He planned another play this year but has failed to follow through. He now feels that he has failed the Lord again.

My Fellow Brothers and Sisters in Christ, How would you reach out to this Brother in need? How would you counsel him? How would you use the Word of God to build him up?

He a real problem where he thinks he is there to please the church ministers or whomever. The fact of the matter that poverty and depressioin come when you fall of hub that it is God who is looking at what your doing. Those who preach the gospel should not preach to fill church pews but to bring people to repentance and to Christ himself in heaven and not church street. After you've confessed Jesus is Lord and not so and so and believe that Jesus rose from the dead and is heaven looking at you every waking moment, then you can say you are believer. The fact that you were born in a church is meaningless. May you be blessed. Amen. thbg

LET ME FIRST OFF THANK TOHIMBEGLORY, Thank you for sharing in this blog. I agree with you. It does not matter where you were born. What matters is whats in your heart? What recomondations would you give this brother? What advice? What scriptures would you share with him? If he was to pass you and share this with you someday?

Dear Brother In Christ, I could honestly call you my brother in Christ today, not because of what you claim to be, or even because you are a son of a pastor. I call you a brother because you have shown the fruits of the spirit in everything you have done while in my presence. [bible]Galatians 5:22[/bible] [bible]Matthew 7:16[/bible] Because of this, we both have the confidence of salvation given to us by our Wonderful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As I see you going though your "ups and downs" of like, its very noticeable that you still are trusting feelings rather then Gods Word. Many of us that latch on to our own feelings and expectation tend to take our eyes off the LORD and sink, even when they think they are doing the right thing. It reminds me of Peter who walked on water. He clearly was doing something right, but he then took his eyes of the Lord. We all know what happened next. We cannot base our walk on our emotions and feelings. Just by speaking to you I see that you're a very emotional person. Hence, the poetry writing that is filled with passion and full of feelings. Our feelings will sometimes tell us that we are not "good enough" that we are "not worthy enough" that we are "not saved" we are not "working enough for GOD". The last one seems to match what you have been telling me. We must work for God because of what he did for us, not because we feel that we must, in someway, pay Him back for what He has done in our lives. We can never pay him enough. But we must rest in the fact of the Work that HE DID COMPLETE on the CROSS. He died on that cross to make us perfect in His eyes. It might take some time before he stand in front of him someday, or it might be today, but sooner or later we will all be in front of our Lord and he will see us the way he always Has. Brother, It might take some time for us to see ourselves the way God sees us. We are not perfect here now and will not be until we enter eternity. We will continue to fall and make mistakes, and yes, we still fall short of what God would like us to do. Nevertheless, we have a loving a gracious God who loves us so much and continues to mold us into the image of His Son. So lets continue to be molded. Jesus knows us better then anyone else, including ourselves. He knows where and when you will fall. These are the times that we mold us the most. However, sometimes we must submit and allow God to work in and through us. My brother I leave you know with these words of biblical wisdom and I pray that they will help you in your growth and walk and any other who read these words today. 1. Repent and confess to God ( 1John1:9) 2. Determine to Forsake Any Known Sin in Your Life (Proverbs 28:13) 3. Make Right Any Known Wrongs (Acts 24:16) 4. Renewed Fellowship will be the result ( 1Jn 1:7) Your Brother In Christ, Jay
