Spiritual Growth
I've struggled recently and in the past as well with working on my spiritual growth. At times I've just felt like I was stagnant where before I had had a thirst for personal growth.
Well, in an effort to try harder and to push myself I installed E-Sword on my laptop and have been using it for my devotionals in the morning (morning ones are new ). I started with 1 Peter (for some reason; I think originally I had been searching for something, left it at 1 Peter, and then came back and decided to read it) and have been finding lots of interesting things there.
Today I read 1 Peter 2, and came across Peter talking about how we are to desire God's Word, and these are the notes I made up:
Christian Growth
1Pe 2:2 Desire God's pure word as newborn babies desire milk. Then you will grow in your salvation.
This is it, a very clear point on how we are to grow as Christians. Desire God's Word, desire to read the Bible.
Furthermore:
Act 20:32 "I am now entrusting you to God and to his message that tells how kind he is. That message can help you grow and can give you the inheritance that is shared by all of God's holy people.
The message of God's kindness can help us grow.
What else helps?
1Co 3:6-7 I planted, and Apollos watered, but God made it grow. (7) So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is important because only God makes it grow.
And:
1Co 14:26 So what does this mean, brothers and sisters? When you gather, each person has a psalm, doctrine, revelation, another language, or an interpretation. Everything must be done to help each other grow.
Paul speaks in 1 Corinthians in detail about how we can help one another to grow. He mentions "other languages" specifically, but I think only because he's cautioning the Corithians of the potential misuse of tongues. He also tells us to excel in our spiritual gifts so that we can help the church grow (1Co 14:12).
So we have:
* God's Word
* The message of God's kindness (the Word?)
* God Himself
* Fellow Christians
