Feeding the homeless

Last night, the Atlanta Taiwanese Prebyterian Church volunteered to help feed the homeless at the Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Atlanta. Instead of doing the yearly church Thanksgiving dinner, they decided this year to do something for others.

There were quite a number of people who showed up to help out, probably over 30. And some kids were there as well. The doors opened 7 PM and soon all the men filled up the 100 seats. Before eating, one of the homeless men volunteered to pray for the food. And it was a beautiful prayer.

We served egg drop soup, egg rolls, baked chicken, fried rice, vegetables, and cookies. As they were eating, I told the man who prayed that I liked his prayer. We talked a little bit and I was amazed at his level of faith. He had recently gone to jail and was repentent of what he did. And he knew that he had strayed from God, but that God was faithful.

The men were all very appreciative of the food. It's probably been awhile since they've eaten this much food. They even clapped for us after it was finished.

Hopefully the church can do this again next year. Or even before that.

I have helped in the past in a community Thanksgiving lunch. It's is amazing how humbling the whole experience can be. It give you a real feel for what servanthood should be. My heart went out to those who came and I found myself thanking God over and over for caring for me and keeping me from circumstances that could easily have me receiving rather that serving the meal. Thank you for remembering those less fortunate and then putting your feeling into action by serving them. Thanks for sharing.

Many Blessings,
GreyBear
