You will never make it in life. You are nothing like your older sister. I never loved you in the first place. You will never change. You are stupid. You are ugly. And the list goes on and on and on and on until all you have left is a broken and rejected shell of a person who feels less than human. It makes me want to scream! Seriously! I very often have people in my office who arrive broken and rejected and in pieces. They are shattered. They have been cut by sharp words. They have heard such awful lies and the merciless taunts of the enemy so often that they have come to believe them. And they have not heard anyone speak words of love to them .and so I cry for them and often with them ..and then we talk!

Mother Teresa once said, "Words which do not give the light of Christ increase the darkness." The words we speak are either blessing someone or cursing them. They are either truth or lies. They are either life or death. They are words conceived and born of Heaven or they are words from the pit of hell. There are no words that do not matter. And sticks and stones break bones but toxic words are the worst kind of deadly poison. The toxic poison of devastating words can only be remedied by words of truth, hope and life. A word fitly spoken in due season. Creative words create. Hurtful words wound. Helpful words heal. Toxic words poison. Pleasant words cure.

Do you know that words matter even if you are not the person the words are directly spoken to. Words AFFECT you if you hear them. That is why it is important to keep company with people who speak encouraging and life giving words. If you are in a work environment where ungodly words are spoken they will AFFECT you they will cause you to feel depressed. If you are in a room where a mom or dad is screaming at a child, you will feel shaken. If you hear someone being threatened you will feel fear even if you are not the person being threatened. That is because the words being spoken are AFFECTING you. You must guard yourself and what you hear because there is something worse than being simply affected by toxic words and that is becoming INFECTED. That is when you begin to act and speak like those who speak toxic words. That is why you must counter all negative and toxic words that are spoken in your presence. Speak only life. When someone says something unkind immediately say something that is kind. My cousin is a Christian psychologist and she encourages her clients to participate in "good gossip". Purposefully tell people things that will encourage them. Tell them of a compliment you heard about them. Tell them when they look nice. Never with hold kind words.

God speaks well of you and I. We should speak well of others. There is too much hurt in this world. There is pain everywhere you look. So many people have been wounded by the cutting tongue of another. They have been rejected. You and I may be rejected by the world but we are accepted and approved by God. His love is NOT based on performance or outward appearance. His love comes directly from his own heart. He says he loves you. You should speak words of love. There is a temptation to speak unkind words when they are spoken to you. You can teach and train yourself to return good for evil. You can make a habit of speaking well of everyone.

Practice telling your friends how much they mean to you. Proverbs 16:24 says, "Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." Aren't you thankful for people that always speak sweet words of affirmation? Everyone needs to be encouraged.

Finally, I want to tell you something that you should never forget. YOU are NOT who others think or SAY you are! You are who God says you are. He thinks and speaks well of you. If you don't believe me just read his Word. He accepts you. NOW one final final final last word and then I will close this out please . I beg of you, speak well of yourself. Please don't say that you are a loser or won't make it in life. I know sometimes we think we are suppose to be humble and all that and not accept compliments about ourselves. I agree we should not allow pride an entrance into our lives but if GOD says it I think we are safe to speak it and believe it. God says we are kings and priests. He says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. He says we are above and not beneath. He says we are created in his image. And he says a lot more. I am going to share something that I speak over myself daily. I know it will sound funny but I've been so rejected in life that I need to hear every day what God says about me and I need to talk to myself too.

You can write something out about who you are in Christ and you should encourage yourself in the Lord every day. Speak well of your God. Speak well of others. Speak well of yourself. Refresh yourself with words of life. Detox your life by speaking words that heal.
