Sin does not break God's "law" but his "heart"

When you sin today you are not actually breaking the "law" of God, however, you are certainly breaking the heart of God. The law was imperfect and not without "fault" (translated this means the law was not "enough") Jesus died and set us free from the constraints of the law. Jesus set us free and now we don't look to the law to know what we should do or should not do but to the Cross. Many people have said that the Bible says, "the law of the Lord is perfect converting the soul"' as they quote the Psalmist. We must remember that the word "law" in this context simply means the teaching or precepts of the Lord. The law can convert a person and cause them to change their outward behavior but the law can not redeem a person or change a heart. There is a difference between the O. T. law (Torah) that was given to Moses under the Old Covenant and the law of the Lord that is written on the tablet of our heart. The Psalmist also references the testimony of the Lord which is what does God have to say and what is in his heart. We are under the N. T. Covenant of Grace. God himself said that if the law was not without fault another would not have been necessary. We have a better law. The law of love. And having received this wonderful revelation of God's grace will NOT cause us to do less than the law and what is required but MORE that is (was) required.

Paul said in I Corinthians 15:10 "By the GRACE of God I am what I am, and his GRACE toward me was not in vain; but I labored MORE abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the GRACE of God which was with me.

The truth is that you and I will do better and do more without struggle when we receive the blessing of God's Amazing Grace! When I understand how much mercy and grace I have been given, I will with joy offer my life in service to my King. I will obey because I WANT to and not because I must.

There is a very valid reason that the O. T. law was not effective or enough It is simple. You just can NOT have a relationship with tablets of stone. Jesus died and fulfilled the law. We now have his law (precepts, teaching) and are instructed by the Holy Spirit, who is our teacher. I am thanking God for his marvelous mercy tonight and his Amazing Grace!

Lord, I love you and I thank you for the Cross. I tried so many times to "be good" and "do good" and "obey" and just do my best and every time I would fail and fall short. I know that many times I have sinned and broken your heart. I humbly ask your forgiveness and thank you for your mercy and your grace. I acknowledge that your mercies are new every morning and your grace is to the ends of the earth. I thank you Holy Spirit for leading me and guiding me and for convicting me of sin..and unto righteousness. I thank you for your comfort and your help.

Your GRACE still AMAZES me!

Love, Your devoted daughter,

Pam

Very good blog and thoughts sister. You are right, we cannot have a relationship with tablets of stone or words on a page and we needed God to come in the form of a little baby wrapped in swaddling cloths. A God who became fully man to grow up as we grew up, to feel as we feel, to experience as we experience, to be tempted as we are tempted all to become the perfect Lamb of God to accomplish what the Law was not able to. Yet dear sister, I would not say that the Law of God was or even is "imperfect" ... God is prefect and that which is perfect cannot be more perfect or less perfect. Therefore, His Word and His Law are perfect in and of themselves. The imperfection comes with imperfect man who corrupted all, even the perfect creation through disobedience at the Fall. This is why Paul, in the New Testament maintains that All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2 Tim 3:16). That is why Christ Himself declares:
17 "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19 Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." -- Matthew 5:17-20 (NKJV)
Coincidentally, I published a blog on the Law and it's meaning to the born-again follower of Christ "Free from the Law, Bondservant and Slave to Christ"

In His Love,
Arisen

Thank you for your kind and insightful comments. I respect every comment. It is possible that I was not able to express my heart clearly. What I am hoping to express or to articulate is that the "law" or "guidelines" or "teaching" of the Lord in itself (a set of do's and do not's by themselves) even given by God is not "enough" to save us. We need Christ in order to be able to keep the law. To me it is much like in a civil society where there are man made "laws" that are very needful and helpful IF we were able to keep them...however, just having the laws and knowing what to do is never enough I need strength to be able to "keep" the law. I recently heard a recognized and anointed speaker say that it is the difference between "perfect" and "even more perfect". To me, that was a great thought. I would never suggest that we should dishonor or disregard the "law" of the Lord in any manner. I pray that I was not misunderstood. I very much appreciate your thoughts and I thank you so kindly for your comments and the spirit of Christ with which they were offered. Many blessings! Agape, Pastor Pam

Dear sister, I understand completely, such is the limitation of language. Oh how I wish for the day when He returns and we are given new bodies, for I am convinced that we will also be given new voices where misunderstanding will be no more. I agree with you entirely that the Law in and of itself will not save us. As long as we live in this tent of flesh, we will not be able to live the law in perfection. Heck, even those of us who are saved stumble on occasion! This is why we need Christ and the Holy Spirit in our lives.

it wasn't a cross but a tree, JC was crucified on, the cross has become a religious relic, which destroys people from believing the greatness of God's word written to us after the day of Pentecost.
Godbless Dave
PS-just great to see people that can voice an opinion about God's word, that sadly my not be available in your country in the near future !

With all due respect, dhwordtime, tree or cross, Christ was crucified for us. He died as a propitiation for our sins and rose conquering death. How does tree or cross change that? How does it destroy people's ability to believe the greatness of God's written word? Besides, In the Gospels alone, Scripture itself calls it a cross (Matthew 27:32, 27:40, 27:42; Mark 15:21, 15:30, 15:32; Luke 23:26, John 19:17, 19:19, 19:25, 19:31). Jesus calls it a cross (Matthew 10:38, 16:24; Mark 8:24, 10:21; Luke 9:23, 14:27)

Nevertheless, you are right brother, there may come a time when the Word of God will not be spoken in this land and we hasten it along as long as Christ followers persist in picking away at things that have little bearing on the central message of the Gospel instead of standing firmly on it and proclaiming it to a broken world.
