You Might be Misrepresenting God IF

If you want to know what I think or what I would say about something don't ask someone else...ask me. If you want to know what a particular individual thinks or feels you don't go and ask a relative or neighbor to get the best and most accurate information. You go DIRECTLY to the person. It is just as easy to talk "TO" a person and receive first hand, first person information as it is to talk "ABOUT" someone. It is the same with God. You really shouldn't get your information about God from the media or your neighbor. Instead, go directly to God's Word if you really want to know more about him and if you're sincerely and seriously interested in what HE has to say to you and about you. His Word is his message of love to you. AND He means what he says and he says what he means and he never says anything mean at all!

The reason it is important to study God's Word for yourself is because there are many people who misrepresent God and his love.

I don't want to ever be one of THOSE people who walk around telling people how they are doing life all wrong and that God is mad at them. THAT is misrepresenting God.

We need to be reminded that what we say and how we act toward others as a Christian is reflective of our Father God.

I see far too many judgmental Christians who are angry and self righteous. Recently, I had someone come and tell me that I am much too kind and loving. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? At first I thought this was a joke gone bad that I was surely missing the point. Sadly, they were quite serious and told me that if you're too kind and sweet Well people just will not take your message seriously. I spent about an hour sharing God's love and truth with that individual. Wow!

So, the list is here for you and I to examine our own heart. I will ask ONE favor of you SWEETLY...ha! Please do not ever use this list to look at another person and say, "they are misrepresenting God" This is for YOU and I to examine our OWN heart. Thank you for understanding that. Don't judge the judgers!

YOU MIGHT BE MISREPRESENTING GOD IF .

If you believe that Christians must live miserable and serious all the time...you might be misrepresenting God.

If you believe or tell someone that God is mad or angry with them .you might be misrepresenting God.

If you believe or tell someone that because they have sinned they can never be used of God again...you are misrepresenting God.

If your message is not filled with HOPE ..you might be misrepresenting God.

If you believe or tell someone that they must "DO" certain things to please God .you might be misrepresenting God.

If you talk more about the problem than you do about the answer, Jesus ..you might be misrepresenting God.

If you believe or tell others that sickness, financial problems, hurricanes, broken bones, auto accidents, or terrorist attacks are all acts of God or tools of God in order to "teach" you a lesson are are most certainly, misrepresenting God ...who is LOVE.

If you believe a certain translation of the Bible is the only inspired Word of God you might be misrepresenting God.

If you believe or tell someone that Jesus giving sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf and miracles and signs and wonders were only for first century "verification of the message" and not for today ..you are misrepresenting God .who still heals.

FINALLY, IF YOU DEMONSTRATE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE LOVE OF CHRIST .IF YOU ARE MAD, ANGRY, UNKIND, UNMERCIFUL, UNFORGIVING, JEALOUS OR MEAN ...YOU ARE MISREPRESENTING GOD AND HIS MESSAGE OF LOVE AND MERCY!

I want to tell you why this list is so necessary. It is because there are many who wear the label of "Christian" and they do not represent his love and power well. They argue points of doctrine and they are anti anything and everything and fail to present the love of God and the Gospel message accuratly.

There are many broken people who need the help and hope that Christ offers. They will KNOW we are Christians by our love. People do not care what you KNOW until they KNOW that you care. WE have all been guilty. Lord, help us to reveal your love to others in everything we do and say. May the whole world see JESUS in me!

I love you all more than words!

While I loved this entire blog, this part really jumped out at me.

If you believe or tell others that sickness, financial problems, hurricanes, broken bones, auto accidents, or terrorist attacks are all acts of God or tools of God in order to "teach" you a lesson are are most certainly, misrepresenting God ...who is LOVE.

You see, I am a cancer survivor of four years and a ruptured brain aneurysm/stroke survivor of 2 and a half years. There are the people who tried to look for reasons why I was getting sick... especially after the second incident. I don't want anything to do with them, I'm afraid.

Then there were the people who demonstrated and continue to demonstrate the love of God towards me.

Since that time, God has brought me into contact with a number of Christians who are battling illness or other very difficult situations. It is heart-breaking to see someone who is suffering have the added pain of having salt rubbed into their wounds by... well meaning(?) Christians.
When will we stop blaming the victim? Christ never did. Instead He reached out to people with love and compassion. We need to do the same.

Blessings!

I so agree with your thoughts! When Christians or others blame a victim it just makes me want to jump up and down and scream! That's not fair! For one thing, the person who is ill is vulnerable and an easy target. With friends like that who needs enemies! I would just like to tell these people who blame the sick...welcome to the "Friends of Job" club! My brother is an attorney and this is something that happens daily in court. The defense always tries to blame the girl who was raped or molested. They will always try to attack the character of the victim. It is disgusting. It allows for the one who committed the transgression or crime to be deemed innocent. No one wants to be sick. No one deserves to be hurt.

Also, how can these supposed Christians minister healing and hope to the broken and hurting while attacking them at the same time? It doesn't work that way. Only love will heal. I thank God for those who love and care.

I believe that I can see from your response that God is using you to reach out with compassion to others who are broken and hurting.

May God use you to bless many people!

Agape,

Pastor Pam
