Clutter on the inside is showing on the outside

I recently listened to a devotion on 1Cor 6:19-20. My body is a temple. Not a new concept for me. I usually feel all guilty about my weight or bad back and knees. This time the devotion took a different twist. It stressed God's love.
Then I had an ADD moment and drifted... .

The sister giving the devotion had hit on something. Now I'm off on a thinking tangent and can't hear her wonderful words of encouragement...thoughts of some of the memory bubbles I've had this week...her voice melts in "God loves you".

God loves me...Yes He does! And He is so ever gentle with me! I know this more than I know anything. Yet how simple it is. So simple I make it complex!

Back to my thoughts again...now safe. Feeling God's love surround me. It's okay to dwell on a thought for a moment... wow, how cluttered my thoughts are. My memories, like loose leaf pages hit by a strong wind. Some tattered and torn, some missing completely. All of them tossed about. Looks somewhat like my house. Bits and pieces of things here and there. All horizontal spaces filled with stacks of books and papers, boxes. Stuff I'm not ready to throw away yet, what if I find the part that goes with it? Where do I put the stuff I want to keep?

Hmmmmm... my brain seems to resemble my house just a little too much.

Let me think on this somemore... Which came first? The chicken or the egg? My cluttered mind or cluttered house?

Will I ever be successful at decluttering my house till I have decluttered my mind?
My house is the window to my mind just as my eyes are the window to my soul.

I vacuumed the downstairs today.

Hey philippiansfourseven,
philippiansfourseven:

hehe, just do what I do... hire a local residential janitorial to come to your house once a week and do the touch-ups that I seem to keep missing... or just too lazy to do

(btw, if you have a local teen challenge, you might want to see if you can get them to do this! many of them do janitorial work programs, and it gives you a great way to help keep the house clean, plus provide an bit of additional income for their local center!)

(and yes, I really do have people come to my house... I'm a happily single working man who keeps a very clean house, yet hates vacuums and dusting all my book cases!)

Anyway, on to more spiritual things... lol

Yeah, it's amazing how most things in life seem to reflect our faith with the Lord! Our pre-Christian friends really are watching what we do, how we behave, how well we keep ourselves... and our houses... cars... etc.

I was asked to assist a local youth pastor in this past Wednesday night youth service at a local church (I am a former youth minister, so its always nice to be invited to help another youth pastor on a special event they are having) and one of the questions the youth pastor asked during his message was, "What are YOU doing to show GOD you love Him?"

That's a question to really ponder on...

This clutter sometimes even happens to me when I'm praying. So I just tell the Lord like it is and pray, "Lord, my thoughts are really scattered right now. Sorry. Help me focus." Also praying out loud at moments like this helps me focus better.

Grace to you,
