Shadow, Am I?

I mean, I'll just be honest.
I haven't yet figured out why the older folk in the church are so unaccepting of younger adults coming in.
A few years back, myself and a few other young adults went to Ohio, as mentioned in earlier posts.. We ministered to a predominately black church there. Most were so accepting of us, and so warm hearted. Why can't most churches be like that? I mean, we came in(all of us under 21), ministered to them, prophesied over them, lead worship for a few of their services, and they were completely willing to go where the Lord wanted to take them while we were there. The worship leader in my church is 19 years old, and a couple older couples have left because they didn't want to accept the fact that there was, what seemed like a child, leading them into worship. Why is this? I'm not yet sure. But, I do know that if they would just open up their hearts, and be willing to let go of alittle pride, they would see change. It seems to me like, if I were 50 years old, I would be excited to see kids running after the Heart of God. But some aren't. And to the few that are excited to see this, Bless you! Sometimes I wish I could just tell them that they are supposed to be raising us up, and teaching us, so we can do what the Lord wants accomplished in our generation. Their fight isn't over, it's just beginning, because they have us to pour in to, as we pour back into them- if some would just give us the chance.
We have alot to offer. Everything from the arts and media to the business world, just let us in alittle more, give alittle grace, and maybe even alittle favor.

1 Timothy 5
1 Timothy 4:12

Reading those two passages could give you alot to think about... Be Blessed

Nikki

Hey Nikki! Isn't it amazing that God was speaking to both of us at the same time! I read your blog and started to comment back and then got caught up in laundry only to come back to see that YOU had commented on mine. He makes me giggle sometimes at His greatness.

So anyhow, I totally understand where you are coming from with this. But I think that often anyone facing a change kinda puts their back up when they are faced with the unfamiliar! So often we want to get into our comfort zones and just sit pretty. However, God wants so much more from us. He doesn't want us to be content. He wants us to grow and to change. To be constantly growing closer to Him and His ways.

I don't think that it is necessarily the "young people" that are turning the older crowd away, so much as it is the change they see happening. They don't want to be made uncomfortable, so they choose to walk away. It is sad really.

One of the biggest problems I see in the church today is there is often a lack of the young intermingling with the old. How are we to learn if we don't interact with those much more grounded in their faith? Those that have walked with the Lord much longer than us. It's sad really. We could learn so much. Get so much from their wisdom.

The most important thing is to keep moving in the Lord. Don't give up simply because people cannot see God's work in you. Keep pushing forward and let God work on their hearts.

In Christ,

Charity :)

Thank you so much poodlelady. Be blessed!

I completely agree with you, Charity.
Getting out of the comfortzone isn't exactly fun.. but so worth it. Thank you both for the comments.
Be blessed!

Nikki
