America Needs the Prayers of the People of God
2009, July 4, marks the 233rd birthday of the nation of America. The document which was signed by fifty-six men, which declared independence from earthly powers, is concluded with these powerful words: With a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor”. Twenty-nine of these men suffered deep loss as nine of them died as a result of war.
America has been held to the highest place of respect through these past years. Looking around the landscape of other nations, one can find resources which should be a boon to each of these countries. When America’s vast vaults of natural blessings are looked upon, one can see the hand of God at work in molding those blessings into a respected and successful nation.
People by the thousands, through the years, have sought refuge in the nation. Lives have been started over and developed into fantastic success stories. The mission of Jesus Christ has found safe haven within the borders of America for the sharing of the Good News of the gospel around the world. Churches have been free to preach the love of God and salvation through Jesus Christ resulting in thousands of Americans being born into the family of God. America has indeed been spiritually blessed, as well as materially, beyond any other nation on the face of the globe.
Citizens of the United States are the most blessed of any people anywhere. Freedom, although obtained at a high cost, has endured throughout these United States of America for these 233 years.
The road from 1776 to the present hour hasn’t been an easy trip. For some those years of freedom has come more slowly then to other groups and individuals. Race relations have made tremendous advancements in the past 40 - 50 years. Poverty remains a real challenge in many circles. Political wars are often frightening. Immorality is a driving force in safety issues and law enforcement. But for now, much of our freedom remains intact, although there are fearful possibilities just ahead.
The desire of the body of Christ in 2009 is to live through another Great Awakening as in years past. God’s promise in the Old Testament is still relevant for today. And if a new awakening is to come to this nation, His roadmap to spiritual renewal will be required.
A Call 2 Fall on our knees is planned across the nation for Sunday, July 5. The Family Research Council, led by Tony Perkins, is seeking to have at least 40,000 churches participating in this event. Our church in Gloster, Galilee 1st Baptist, will be one of the 40,000. Our service will be on Sunday night beginning at 6 P. M.
40,000 churches can translate into millions of Bible believing Christians praying for America. God told Solomon at the conclusion of his building the temple and at its dedication, If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land”(2 Chr. 7:14).
It my earnest belief that our nation will not adopt laws to protect the innocent babies in the mother’s womb, that we will never make any headway in protecting Christians from hate speech rules and laws, that people will never realize until it’s too late what brought down brimstone upon Sodom and Gomorrah by utilizing psychological arguments and political maneuvering. Politicians, news anchor personal, clergymen, it is time that we answer all morally damaging activities with the Word of God. I dream about hearing those on the airways speak the scripture and allow the Holy Spirit to run with it. God’s promise in the Old Testament, in the first major prophet, Isaiah, is still as plain as it gets. The prophet wrote down what the Holy Spirit led him to write: So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth. It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please. And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”(55:11).
Let us pray that America will see one more spiritual awakening before the King of kings, and Lord of lords, returns to rapture out the body of Christ. Will you be one of those millions who fall on their knees in behalf of the greatest country on the face of the earth?
