Time of the Gentiles part 1

Hi all! I never blogged before, mainly because I couldn't find a place I felt comfortable doing it. So here goes...

At the begining of this year, I decided to self study on a couple of perplexing thoughts that I kept thinking about: the end times and the time of the gentiles. The Books of Daniel, Revelations, Amos, the four Gospels and others speak of the end times and the time of the gentiles.

The verse that bugs me the most is Luke 21:24; "And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled."

So, for the end times to occur, Israel must be reestablished. That happened in 1948, so Luke 21:24 is fulfilled. Therefore, we must be in the end times and the time of the gentiles is over with. The book of Daniel has in it most of the time of the gentiles in it. The question is, is it completed?'

Since Israel is the key to Biblical prophesy, we'll take a look at the history of Israel and see how it fits in to what I'm thinking.

Overall time of the gentiles.

So here lies the problem: Jesus said,"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: as soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know the summer is near. Even so, when see all these things; you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these have happened." (Matthew 24:32-33, NIV)

What this means, is when Israel is formed again and is blooming, the end time is here. His second coming is after that. I know we are in the end times because the time of gentiles is over with because of Israel's return.

So the number one question is: how did we miss the return of Israel? This is because Daniel has been misinterpreted. In Daniel, he asked the Lord how this time would take and he got this reply: "And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished." (Dan 12:7) The other one that is done incorrectly is in Dan 9:27. We shall take a look at that later.

But the first thing here to do is to look at the history of Israel and see what we get. First, let's look at the total time Israel is under gentile control. 1948 – (-597) = 2545 years, so Israel is under control for about 2500 years. You must remember that Daniel was given these prophecies while Israel was already under gentile control. That disagrees with current intrepidation of time, times, and half a time. Currently, it is said to be 3 and years. It would be 1 time, plus 2 times, plus a time. That is equal to 3.5. However, if you look at the text in the original language for "times," it is plural, but there is no number for it. So why is it 2? Who knows? Maybe so it would fit the 7 years of tribulation. But what would be a better way to translate "times"? A better way to translate this text is to say, "time, another time, and half a time." From this method, you would come out with what I have: 2.5 or 2500.

Another question: how do you get a thousand years to equal time? From 2 Peter 3:8, But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The word used for "day" in this text is not the usual word used for day in other areas. The word has multiple meanings (from Strong). One of them is time. Therefore, time equals a thousand. That is only because a day is already defined as a year else where in scripture. Therefore, the total time for the time of the gentiles is 2500 years.

So to make things easy, lets use 1948-2500= -552 BC. Now remember, Daniel was born after captivity and was an old man at the time of his writings, so 552 BC may have been when these prophecies were given and not the whole time of the gentile rule.

Another point about this time, read Daniel 9:24. It says there are 70 weeks are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgressions to put an end to sin... to seal up vision and prophecy. This means that all 70 weeks are complete. Therefore, there can be no 7 year tribulation period. It's over!

You know I haven't dug into the end very much. I know enough to realize it is a warning and that the events are, no matter how you look at them, not good for the unbeliever. But figuring out what is suppose to happen before this or after that, for me, bear no interest. Why? Because scripture is pretty clear when it says no man knows the day or the hour. Dates and years aren't there to be statistically crunched. I believe they are there to paint the broad strokes of the picture our Lord intended us to see and to declare to us that we need to be prepared at all times for His return. Simplistic at best, but then that's me.

Only 2 cents,

You have so much in your post... so i'm reading it peacemeal to have time to study it out.

Times of the Gentiles in Luke 21:24.
I do not believe this period to be over yet. Here's why: From Jerusalem Travel Information on LonelyPlanet.com.."The city is divided into three parts: the walled Old City, where most of the sights are; the predominantly Arab East Jerusalem; and the rapidly expanding new city, known as West Jerusalem. The Old City is also divided, into Armenian, Christian, Jewish and Muslim quarters."
Gentiles are still 'trampling' Jerusalem.

I wonder if the times of the Gentiles continues till rapture. The gospel was given first to the Jews then to the Gentiles. There are still those who haven't heard the name Jesus. Maybe this time of the Gentiles is in reference to preaching the gospel. A time of salvation before the end.

I enjoy reading and studying about the end times... it's in the Bible for a reason. Not that we can pinpoint a day or year. But so we can continue in urgancy telling everyone about Jesus.

In my conclusions, coming later, I address that issue along with some others. One perplexing problem would be the Dome of the Rock still sitting on the Temple Mount. The point I'm getting at is something wrong with the current interpretation. I'll have history of that later on.

I started studying prophecy this summer after my son left for basic training for the Army Reserve. The week he left the Israel soldiers were kidnapped and the Lebanon conflict began. I read "Jerusalem Countdown" but decided the seven year tribulation didn't add up somehow. I read everything I could find online about this subject and somehow ran into Ellis Skolfield's website. He has written "The False Prophet" which agrees with you that the Dome of the Rock is the Abomination that causes Desolation. Everyone has the last week of Daniel wrong. It does not represent seven years. It has a unique multiplier of 360. Every 50 years was the Jubilee, a whole year of rest. The Dome of the Rock was built in the middle of that week. The Dome of the Rock has inscriptions inside and out saying that God has no Son, etc. The " False Prophet" can be read on EllisSkolfield.com, I have searched and searched looking for other prophecy writers who understand this info and can find none so far, except for this blog.
