What I think happened to the Joshua Generation, and me

As I have grown in Christ, I have worked with many age groups in many churches, camps, retreats, ministries, etc. In recent years God had me working along side a dynamic woman of God whose ministry is youth, but mission is children. I've been a prayer partner, accountability partner, and just there to help.
In this position God put me in, for a season, I began to see something specific He wanted me to learn. It gave me joy, and, it broke my heart.

I am a firm believer that every generation has it's own calling. The Bible denotes specific time periods as generations. I'm not talking about dates or hours. I'm talking about times when people and events were in direct response to the calling of the Most High God. I have been watching children from about the ages of 4 to 10 becoming aware of the power of the Holy Spirit in their lives. I have seen them on their little faces in deep prayer for family, friends, the lost. I have seen them lay hands on people and God has healed them of physical and emotional ailment.

I have watched the older children from about 10 to 20 as they have all night prayer vigils for their town. As they congregate in Kansas City at IHOP (International House of Prayer) to learn more and more about how to hear God. I've supported them in prayer and cash as they go to their neighborhoods and all over the world to do the great commission, build houses, and befriend the friendless.

I have come to understand that those older 'children' are the Joshua generation. They are learning to live without fear, without doubt in the Father even when they doubt themselves. They are strong and courageous. They do not fear the enemy, for they have all the power needed in themselves by Christ Jesus.
They are who I was supposed to be.

I am a child of the '60's and '70's. By mercy and grace, I was stronger in my faith than most and survived with very little collateral damage!
There was an invitation from God for us at that time. He was putting in place prophets, teachers, pastors, priests, healers and servants. A generation of His children to be prepped for battle, for salvation, for blessing. It takes special attitude to be blessed as a leader, especially if you are a leader of leaders. The spirit of strength was poured out in abundance over an entire generation.

The lies of the enemy, the sweet, tempting, self-crushing whispers in the ears of those who were supposed to be His garrison, became the nightmare of a nation. The enemy took those strengths and turned them to weakness. The same serpent that cooed sweetly to Eve and Adam used the same lies to turn the heads and hearts of the children to himself. A wanton destruction of the children of the Most High.

Now, any time God sends you out on a mission, whatever it is, He always has a blessing with it. He doesn't give you a race to run without a prize at the end. It's just His nature to bless and gift His family. What we earned from our selfishness and 'free' lives were devastation of so much we hold dear. Families with multiple divorces, alcoholism, drug abuse, child abuse in unfathomable proportion, worship of evil, and on and on... The Jesus movement was there, but so small. So small.

We lost our blessing. WE were the Joshua Generation.

BUT GOD... ..

But God never gives up and He has these huge blessings that are piling up. So, He has given a new generation the opportunity to do the work, live the life, and receive the blessing. I am watching them. Praying for them. Loving them. Joining them.
You see, I know my generation of baby-boomers lost a lot. But God is quick to put you back where you are supposed to be if you want!
What do you want? Want to get back some of what you didn't even know you lost? Then , pay attention! He has a great big blessing for you even if you missed out once! He always has something for you, with you, in you! Go get it!

Now, about the Josiah Generation... ...

This is a great perspective... an opportunity. That means going forth and out...
Grace to you,

The Joshua generation message to young people is one in which I have a personal history. And yes, God indeed has a place for that former generation...for one thing, they need the wisdom from our age in the Lord.

In the mid 90's I attended a youth conference at a large revival center. The message was totally about 'the Joshua generation' that would pioneer twice. Feeling a bit put out, I asked the Lord "What about MY generation?" God is good and He hears the cry of our hearts. I went forward for prayer and God gave the woman who prayed a direct answer for me. She said:
"Stand up, stand up, you are a woman" ... I had my head down and she was insistent. I thought, I had better stand tall or she won't stop, so I stood tall.

She went on to proclaim that I would "pioneer twice". Once again I thought ... I have never pioneered, what could this mean? Then she said "FEAR NOT, fear not" several times. I wasn't aware of any fear. I again wondered what she was talking about ... fear what?

I suddenly realized I had pioneered in the spirit. All at once every painful memory ... and FEAR that went with it, dawned on me. At that moment, the thought of pioneering again, caused that fear to surged through me. No wonder she was commanding me, in advance, to FEAR NOT, because fear was coming!

You may wonder what being a woman had to do with her prophetic word. Those women who have pushed forward for God (and the men who support them) will understand. The Deborah path is not an easy one.

I agree with your exhortation ... "Go get it". With that word from God I pursued (and still am pursuing) that next pioneering work. I pray all the men and women who feel left behind will "Stand Up, Fear Not, and take hold of all God intends for them. He will not disappoint!

Blessings to all,
Barb

Thanks Barb! I understand completely. In the last 10 years I have been a part of the 'women's movement' in our church. The Holy Spirit started on those of us who were so frustrated in ministry. We knew everything was out of whack, so it seemed we were defeated before we started. So, prayerfully, we started talking to our husbands and leadership. We were stepping out of leadership in the church and in our homes. We knew there was a lack of alignment and we all had to work together to set our lives as God had designed. It told a few years! God placed our fellowship in a ministry that works on Biblical 'chain-of-command' if you will, and things began to change. We threw away the old lie "If I don't do it nobody will!" Anyway, that's a whole nuther blog! I look forward to what God has you doing in the near future!
Shalom! secondrider
