A surprise blessing, yet a sad eye-opening!

Two weeks ago, my elder sister had dinner with me and my younger sister. She mentioned that her husband had blessed her with some money so she wanted to bless two of us with a fully paid holiday trip to Bangkok, Thailand.

It would be my trip to Bangkok in the last 15 years, so I went for the 4 day’s trip over the weekend. It was indeed a surprise blessing from God as she even gave pocket money for shopping. Wow!

It was a tiring and hectic trip as my brother in law refused to take the public taxis as he viewed them as unsafe. Many of the taxi drivers wanted to cheat passengers of more taxi fares.

Before the trip, I had prayed for strength for all the walking and the climbing of many staircases to the MRT trains. The Lord had been good and given me strength to survive this wonderful trip. I had so much good delicious Thai food with all the Tom Yam soups and all kinds of authentic Thai coconut sweet desserts!

When I was there, I gave away Thai tracts which I brought along with some Myanmar and Vietnamese tracts. I managed to give 3 Thai tracts to 3 people who provided services to us at the hotel reception and at the hair salon. There were many opportunities to give out more but I didn’t bring enough. I really regretted that I didn’t bring more.

I felt sad and my heart was heavy as I wrote this blog as the whole place was so full of pagan idols and they were everywhere.

The boutique hotel that we stayed had a huge elephant god in gold at the central courtyard. Everywhere we went, we could see many tiny Buddhist shrines at the corner of every building property where people could go and pray anytime they wanted. The land of Thailand was constantly filled with sweet incense smell and jasmine flowers as they worshipped their gods with such offerings every time.

Even at the international airport where we had lunch at one of the café, there were some pagan gods beside the tables and they were located throughout the whole café and at the entrance of the café. I had to say that I was not comfortable taking my meal there! There were even huge fierce looking god-like statues even in the main lobby of the duty free lounge!

Each morning all over Thailand, there would be many Buddhist monks who would bring empty bowls and they would line up along the sidewalks of public roads. Many locals would bring different types of cooked food, stood before these monks and worshipped them, then gave them food as offerings.

Buddhists believed in giving alms and that their kind acts would bring credit for more blessings. The more they would perform such works and sacrifices; they would one day bring them into Nirvana.

There were so many Thai Buddhist temples along public streets which donned bright yellow roof tiles with bizarre looking statues of dragons and alien man-made images.

Sadly I did not see one church building during my time there. In short, it meant that there were so few Christians in this pagan place.

There was much paganism and practice of worship of all kinds of strange gods all over Asia but especially in Thailand and their neighboring countries like Myanmar, Bhutan, Nepal, Laos , Cambodia and Vietnam, just to name a few. These were the billions who had not heard about Jesus.

Yet so few Christians care about their salvation. It hurted me and it surely would have hurt God 's heart that so many Christians in my country of Singapore would go up to Bangkok for weekend trips for cheap shopping and food, but so few would tell them about Jesus or even point the way to Jesus.

I felt sad that many believing Christians would only care about their own salvation and would only care about how to invest into their land and the purchase of cheaper material goods that they could buy than telling someone there about Jesus.

My brother in law who went there often had bought some apartment units, so he went there periodically to check on the price. Yet he did not bother to tell someone or even passed out a Christian tract to someone there.

I would not judge him and anyone for this matter as I wrote all these thoughts and feelings.

I just felt sad that so many were perishing and heading to hell, yet Christians did not bother to direct them to the Truth. I was like them in the past, caring about material goods and investments rather than investing time in the cultivating of the souls of these precious people.

Until the Lord had touched my heart and granted me a passion for lost souls, I would be like them!

May the Lord grant the same to all of His children so that many would go forth and would tell the world about the Gospel of Jesus.

Christians, whilst going there for business or holiday could give out Christian’s literatures which did not need much effort to direct someone to the Truth. It was only a tract away!

I found that the Thai people in general to be quite open to the Gospel, maybe it was their first time that they heard about Him. When I gave out the tracts to those three persons, I noticed that they started reading them immediately.

If every Christian would do a little bit to tell someone in their business or holiday trip than just have their own fun, many in this part of the world would have the opportunity to hear about Jesus.

May God forgive His people who do not have the hearts for lost souls and who do not care that many in this world are heading to hell. May He also forgive us who do not pray for them, pray for breakthrough in their nations, and also pray for more laborers and more missionaries to go forth work in the frontline of all these pagan countries.

May each heart who read this blog will be stirred with love for lost souls so that we will go forth everywhere, even in their holiday and business trips to tell someone about Jesus. Time is short, so start immediately and work quickly.

One soul, every soul means a lot to Jesus. Praise the Lord for His great unconditional love for all of mankind. Amen

You're right. I am just thinking right now that if we'd also do this in our own little part of the world, our own little mission field, what a different place this world would be.

Blessings!

Sister K, yes we are all missionaries everywhere we go. We just do that little bit of pointing the way to someone and let the Holy Spirit let over.

Thanks for reading and for the comment.

Hi Brother Bibleguy, well they are a very modern society, just like what you have in the US. So yes, there is internet access, but in spite of all these, they are also a very traditional society and their lives are intertwined deeply with their deep belief in Buddhism.

Pray for more Christians to do more and to pray for the nation of Thailand.

I hope one day I can leave home and American life to preach in the mission fields. I know how you feel. I have been resolved to tell every cashier I come across that Jesus is they way the truth and the life, and maybe hand them a tract. I have been keeping up mostly. I guess this is a start. I know I can do more once I am clear of the unclean spirit that still plagues me. Pray for me.

Yes, Brother Justicefin, every Christian should have the heart of a missionary. Just start telling others about Jesus with those around us first, slowly the circle of spread will grow beyond our land as the Lord sees our faithfulness in doing the little for Him and He will bring us beyond our shore to serve Him more. There is so much to do and so many to tell about Jesus, they are in the billions in Asia.

Thanks for reading and for the recommendation.

  Silverpen,

Very true and spot on! Every day God gives us opportunities to shine our lights! Sometimes God just wants us to claim the ground for him, as me and my husband experienced recently on a trip to Portugal! God told us just to claim the ground of which we did! Your presence alone in this place was good enough as you might not have been aware that you were shining your light in those dark areas and claiming the ground for Jesus! Don't give up hope for i'm sure you did more for God than you even realise.

God Bless
Chevy x

Sister Chevy, thanks for reading and for the visit. Indeed we can do this simple act for God, just tell someone who Jesus is. Let the spark begins in every life we meet and everyone we talk to.

Let them and let the whole world know that Jesus is alive and that He loves us all.

Dear sister Hwa, it's evident God has given you a burden & passion for the Thai! I pray God would stir our hearts for service in the mission fields for Him & that all our hearts would step out in courage to touch the lives of those around us. The verse you used was the perfect one- For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes! Oh to have a heart for God for all of us to reach those in the mission field out our front door!
Because of Him,

Sister Songsinmyheart, thanks for reading and for the encouragement. Yes, i have a burden for all these lost souls especially for the many billions in Asia. So many in the countries around my nation has not heard about Jesus. Yet sadly the Christians in my land do not share this burden as many are only interested in the prosperity gospel, God forgives us and me!

Do pray for more labourers for the souls in Asia.

Blessings always
