Let God's will be done in the midst of accusations

A few days ago, there was a media bomb on the Christians in my country. One founder pastor with 4 other senior members of a mega church in Singapore were arrested by the police for alleged false accounts and for violating local laws that governed the charity acts which most churches here in Singapore came under.

There was much news on this matter in the next few days and weeks until the matter were to be addressed in court in late July. My nephew was a long time member of the church and he immediately cancelled his holiday trip to pray with his cell group and to give support to their charismatic pastor.

This church was mega in size and was among the largest church congregations in Asia. It had 36 internal ministries and in 2010, had an average of 23,000 worshippers attending its weekly services in English, Mandarin, Hokkien, Cantonese and Indonesian in Singapore. CHC has affiliate churches in the region, including Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan and Australia.

When the news broke out, there was much shock and denial amongst the members. Our government also feared that it might lead to undesired results had carefully released this news only after the school holidays where most members who were mostly youths, so as to avoid unwanted gatherings and undesired strike backs.

Here in Singapore, it was illegal to congregate in groups of ten unless a permit from the government was given. No strike or demonstration is allowed in Singapore for umpteenth years.

Someone asked me to pray for these pastors and for those who were involved. Yes, I would surely pray for God’s mercy and for this matter.

As long as the pastor was above abroad and there was no misuse of church fund for personal gains, surely their names would be cleared after the court case. But if there was misconduct and misappropriation of church funds for personal uses, the law would expose the secret truth.

I heard that many other mega churches were planning to intercede and fast for this matter for 40 days .For when one in the church was in pain, the whole church was also in pain. We suffered as one and we stood as one body of Christ here.

In spite of those who criticized and judged these accused before the matter was presented in court and until the truth be exposed and all hidden matters revealed; no one should pass unnecessary or unkind remarks.

Sadly I was in the one prayer meeting of another church when the leader openly criticized this accused pastor without proof and acted as if there were many truths that were reported in the local Press.

Yet how many of us seek God in this matter? What is the purpose of God in this episode that brings bad publicity to the local Christians?

Is it to bring more unity to the local church as we pray as one?

Is it to wake up the local church to things that have been done here but not right in God’s sight that will have to stop quickly after this episode?

Or is it because the church is not walking in holiness and in righteousness of God and this is to expose hidden sins for His and the world’s judgment for surely judgment will begin at the house of God.

I would not pass judgments for they are all in the hands of the courts. I only pray for God’s mercy and for all truth to come forth and lastly that God’s will be done for this church, for the church of Singapore at large and for God’s will on what He wants to do through and in the local churches.

May the local church learn and mature from this incident and that we will go on to live in all holiness and righteousness especially in finances, in our image and in our unity so that the world will see the love in us for each other and give glory to His name.

Let the peace of God continue to flow in the churches to guide us and to teach us His ways. May God’s will be done in and through this episode. Amen.

Thanks for reading. Do pray for the church of Singapore and for this matter.

God knows the truth of the matter and He is the judge in such things, not us. I also realize that while church leaders can fall and do wrong (in the U.S. we have seen examples of that as well), I am also am aware that world-wide, it is definitely not unheard of for Christians to be accused and convicted of false charges by individuals or even a government. With that in mind, we should always remember that things may not be quite as they appear to pray. We need to pray for the individual rather than condemn them. I am praying.

Blessings!

Yes, Sister K, the case can be a case which the government wants to stop and slowdown the growing population of the local Christians, well only God knows!

So we must pray so that the church of Singapore will be protected and will continue in purity to do His will for the region.

Thanks for reading and for the recommendation.

Blessings always

Sister K and Sister Silverpen, I too am praying! We are the body of Christ and I am going to ask my Bible study and my church to pray over this matter. I can guarantee you they will. I will also ask for prayer and blessings for both the accused and accusers, for God can change circumstances and relationships. And blessings to you Sister Silverpen, as truly your heart is breaking in this matter. I am praying for you!

Sister Godsdevotedpoet, thanks for reading and for standing behind the church of Singapore in this matter. There is so much pain in the life of the people involved and for those who attend this church.

I pray for strength and grace for all who have to walk this road of troubles and that the Lord's will be revealed in time to come. Let the peace of God flows into the churches so that we will move forward with the presence of the Lord.

Thanks to all in your church and the Bible study group who pray on this matter. Thanks for the recommendation too

Blessings always

i agree. nobody should speak against that church without truth. we have governments that are anti-GOd so we should assume that this is persection before it is wrong doing of the church

Brother Justicefin, indeed let God be the final Judge and has the final say. May the glory of the Lord be shown through this matter and that His name be known to many more.

Sadly I was in the one prayer meeting of another church when the leader openly criticized this accused pastor without proof and acted as if there were many truths that were reported in the local Press.

Unfortunately, this is all too common a response from leaders. It is a rash behavior that, sometimes, destroys the credibility of the one(s) accused -- even if [later] they are found to be innocent of the charges. I'm glad I found this blog, Hwa Silverpen, because this kind of behavior from ones in leadership positions has been a concern of mine for some time now. It is a condemnatory behavior; a tentacle of "gossip" that corrupts the church, damages the witness of those participating in it, and discourages far too many from even wanting to attend churches.

I would not pass judgments for they are all in the hands of the courts. I only pray for God’s mercy and for all truth to come forth and lastly that God’s will be done for this church, for the church of Singapore at large and for God’s will on what He wants to do through and in the local churches.

Your response, above, is very wise. You have taken the right stand, and I'm sure that God is pleased with your effort to do the right thing. Thank you.

God Bless You Always

Sister Enje25, thanks for the visit and for the comment. Indeed we should support each other and not fight or criticise each other. But we should be united and fight against the world and against the devil.

Blessings always
