The phrase "Hate the sin not the sinner" I think should be updated to Love the sinner and not the sin. There is too much emphasis on hate. Recently an issue in my family has caused me to think about this. Cannot go into great detail but a family member has opted to put aside the christian values the they were taught to choose a life of sin. Some people are saying this is a "phase" they are going through but the way one family member is handling this may cause it to be permanent. The family member is spewing hatred at the member who is in this sin but other who do not agree with the spewing. They are spewing nothing but hatred for the person who is choosing the sinful life and the person they are with right now. The person spewing the hatred is a christian and has been for years and has many time said you "Hate the sin but not the sinner". There is no love in that statement or in what is being spewed. I am concerned and sharing this because I lived by that motto and have taught my children this and though it is correct it puts too much emphasis on the word hate. I am changing this with my kids so they focus on the love. Though I do not agree with what my family member has done I will still love them. We need to focus on the Love that Christ has taught us. That will help change the world more than focusing on the hate.
