A Day Of Remembrance

A Day of Remembrance:

November Eleventh is a Day of Remembrance for many people around the world. Here at ChristianBlog.Com we would like to also remember and honour those who have served defending their lands and the lands of others so that freedom could and may abound for all men!

Remembrance: UK, Canada & Beyond

For those of you who are not aware (or probably from America)... Remembrance Day (Australia, Canada, United Kingdom), also known as Poppy Day (Malta and South Africa) and Armistice Day (France, New Zealand, and many other Commonwealth countries; and the original name of the day internationally) is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. 1

At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice, on 11th November 1918, to signal the end of World War One!! 2

A number of additional observations are held depending upon where a person lives, including a two-minutes of silences to remember the Armistice of World War One which resulted in 40 million casualties and approximately 20 million military and civilian deaths.

Part of the ceremonies including the playing of "The Last Post" on a bugle and the reading of the poem "For The Fallen", with the fourth stanza being the most famous one.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Remembrance: United States of America

In the United States of American Veterans Day is an American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, it is celebrated on the same day as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I. (Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) 3

Many people confuse the USA Memorial Day and Veterans Day Days of Remembrance.

Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered on Veterans Day.

Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military - in wartime or peacetime - alive or passed-away. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served - not only those who died - have sacrificed and done their duty.

ChristianBlog.Com Remembrance:

We here at ChristianBlog.Com wish to offer our moment of silence and prayers to all those who have served, are serving, and will offer their services in days yet to come!

To do so, ChristianBlog.Com will also spend two minutes of silence in Remembrance. As we are located in California USA, we will have our 2-minutes of silence from 11:00am through 11:02 am -- All act ivies for those two minutes will be suspended. Thank you for understanding.

We wear the poppy because the battle fields of France are covered in wild poppies.
You are to be commended for this act of remembrance.

We always have a church service in the uk on the closest sunday to remembrance day. finishing with these words:

" When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow we gave our today".

submitted with A thankful heart

Yes we remember the Armistice Day , once again here in New Zealand, which is today 11/11/08. We lost sooo many wonderful young men and I guess women too, in W.W.1. (and W.W.11 as well.)

May their sacrifice not be forgotten.

I pray that our Nations will return to God, as we remember this important day in History.

Here is a list of the only remaining living WW1 vets. Note that the US has only one!

Living WW1 Veterans

Thank you to ALL our Vets, the debt owed is larger than my mind could imagine, but as precious as each of my children who remain free this country.
