Concerning Spiritual gifts, Paul says, “I do not want you to be ignorant.”
Before entering into this discussion I feel in my heart a need to remind each of us: “No one speaking by the Spirit calls Jesus accursed and no one can say Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.”
Therefore, I join in with true Christians everywhere in saying: “Jesus is the Son of God come in the flesh Who, being perfectly innocent, took on our transgressions and died on the cross paying the penalty for our sins and He was buried. God raised Jesus from the dead and gave Him the Name which is above all names. Jesus is Lord of lords and King of kings. There is no salvation in any other for Jesus is the only Name given among men by which we must be saved.” Amen!
When Jesus ascended into heaven He gave to His Church His Holy Spirit. We should never forget when talking about Spiritual Gifts we are talking about manifestations of God through His Holy Spirit. Any true manifestation of a Spiritual gift is God ministering to His body through a submitted member of His body.
God has chosen to minister to His body through various ways. Each way is called a Spiritual gift and each Spiritual gift is of the same Spirit, the Spirit of God. In His Word He has named the gifts. They are:
(1) the word of wisdom
(2) the word of knowledge
(3) faith
(4) gifts of healing
(5) the working of miracles
(6) prophecy
(7) discerning of spirits
(8) different kinds of tongues
(9) interpretation of tongues
God Himself distributes Spiritual gifts (manifestations) as He pleases. Each manifestation of a Spiritual gift is a ministry of God being manifested through a willing and obedient child of God.
Knowing this, a warning is in order. Spiritual gifts are God manifesting of Himself in different ways through His saved ones. One would be wise to take care in what they say and how they label these manifestations of God’s Spirit.
God also appointed to His Church (1) apostles, (2) prophets, (3) teachers, (4) miracles, (5) gifts of healings, (5) helps, (6) administrations, and (7) varieties of tongues.
God works through no one person in all these gifts and appointments. He has chosen and anointed as He pleases. God wants us to pursue love and desire Spiritual Gifts.
Spiritual gifts will not remain forever. Spiritual gifts are given to the Church and will leave at the end of the Church age when that which is perfect has come. There is only one perfection which has ever been in this world, JESUS! When Jesus returns there will be no more need for manifestations of His Spirit. He will be present with man. This is when the covenant found in Heb 8:10-12 will be complete with emphasis on verse 11. This prophecy can also be found in Jer 31:33-34.
In the Church abides faith , hope and love . The greatest of the three is LOVE . We should pursue love and desire Spiritual gifts. First and foremost is our LOVE of GOD. We are also to love others just as we love ourselves.
To those of us who cherish Spiritual gifts, I remind you, Spiritual gifts have never saved anyone and no one is required to believe Spiritual gifts are alive and active in the church as a condition of their salvation.
Those who God chooses to work through in His manifestations of Spiritual gifts are no more special than those who a Spiritual gift is never manifested through. We are all loved the same, we are all equal, we are all of one body, we are all Christ's.
Each true Christian has God’s Holy Spirit abiding within them.
To those of you who are opposed to manifestations of Spiritual gifts, I caution you, careful what you say. All Spiritual Gifts are of the same Spirit, the Spirit of God.
My brothers and sisters, regardless of our denominational affiliation, I plead we separate ourselves from all critical spirits and pursue Love! Bury your denominational label and take on the Spirit of God in unity. Know and understand we are all members differing from one another which is necessary in the building of His body, His Church.
Our warring should not be with each other. Our warring should be against principalities, powers, the rulers of darkness of this age, and against spiritual hosts of wickedness in heavenly places.
Our Savior is the Prince of Peace. Let us, with Him, live in peace with one another.
Love to all!
InJesus,
Tch
