"Petra, you've got to see this," shouted Caleb to his wife. "Look at those big tall things walking down the street right in front of our house." "They have spots all over them, I heard those animals are called giraffes," he said excitedly. "They certainly have long necks," responded Petra. "O my, now that's something I've never seen," shouted Moshe to his neighbor. " What are those huge elephants doing in our neighborhood," wondered Anna, Moshe's wife. Parents warned their children to stay away from that crazy Noah and his family.
The children were excited to see the playful chimpanzees and monkeys running,, skipping, leaping and doing somersaults as they made their way to the ark. "Well, just yesterday day I saw Mrs. Caleb grab her five year old Joshua before he followed the lions up that ramp into that monstrosity,"quipped Anna. Parents are really going to have to watch their children now that this craziness has gotten out of hand," exclaimed Petra. Moshe , Anna, Petra and Caleb made their way back into their homes as the parade of animals marched down the street into the ark. The children were fascinated, but their wary parents kept a watchful eye and forbade them to go near the part of town where Noah and his sons were putting the finishing touches on his project. Long ago the women had stopped talking to Noah's wife.
My imagination has come alive as I've thought about the days of Noah. Surely the people around him saw animals they had never seen before in their neighborhood. I wonder, didn't it occur to them that indeed Noah was something more than a crazy old man. After all he was busily working on the ark, not going on safari gathering animals. The Bible tells us that God sent the animals to Noah. There were domesticated animals as well as wild animals. There were creeping and crawling things coming into the ark. Didn't it dawn on the people around that what Noah was saying but have some truth in it?
Unfortunately the people around Noah refused to believe and they ignored the signs. Today we have no excuse. During Noah's day they just had Noah's Word. Today we have God's Word and many people are ignoring the written word. Jesus is coming back. The disciples asked Jesus what would be the sign of His coming.
3 And as he sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
4And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in diversplaces. 8All these are the beginning of sorrows. Matthew 24:3
We've seen the earthquakes in many places, the wars and rumors of war, famines, nations fighting one another. What else do we need to make us believe Christ is coming? Let's make sure we are not like the people in Noah's day. They saw the animals parading down the street. However through sheer pride, arrogance, or disbelief they did not enter the ark that could save them. Let's be ready with oil in our lamps. Let's be ready!
