Written On Your Heart

I have heard people say the following when talking about people knowing Jesus or not knowing him.

"What about the people that have never heard of Jesus? The people that may still live in remote regions of the world? What will happen to them?"

The fact is, Jesus is imprinted on EVERYONE'S heart. Yes, even those people that may have never seen, let alone know, about the world around them. Lets look at some scriptures, and see what they have to say about it.

Romans 2:14-16 - 14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) 16This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

So, in the previous passages it shows that the people who have never heard of the law are judged by the law of God which He has placed into their hearts. Lets look at another passage.

Jeremiah 31:33 - "This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Again, here we see that the lord said that he will put his law in the minds and hearts of people. He did not just do this for the Israelites... he did it for all, so that all would know him. Now, lets take a look at the chapter in Acts at the conversion of Saul.

The high priest has given Saul permission to go to Damascus to do what he did best... hunt down the followers of Christ and imprison them. So, let's pick it up there...

Acts 9:3-6 - 3As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" 5"Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked."I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. 6"Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do."

In verse 5, did you read what Saul said? He immediately knew that it was the Lord speaking to him. Now why would a man, who had persecuted and hunted down Christians for most of his life, automatically know that it was the Lord talking to him? Why did he not say "Who is it?". The reason why is because Saul knew in his heart that there was a Lord, and he immediately knew who was talking to him! The conversion of Saul to Paul is a great story of triumph over the devil, and can be used as a tool in your life today... in any situation where you need to overcome great odds!

I also wanted to take a look at the word "Lord" as it is used in the New Testament. I used a Lexicon and found that there are (2) results that fit here.

1.) despot'„ s, a master, Lord

2.) kyrios, he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, lord, also the owner; one who has control of the person, the master, and is a title of honour expressive of respect and reverence, with which servants greet their master

As you can see in both examples, the definitions show that Lord in this case means master.

The presence and existence of the Lord is written on all our hearts. The Lord gave us free will... we must want to follow him! he is not going to do the work for you, because his work was done on the cross! It is up to us to make the choice to follow him. I hope this has blessed you, and will lead you to the Lord if you have not found him yet!
