evolution dismisses original sin
Posted by:  bethy   (Posted: 08/13/08 2:01am)
I am totally enthralled by the differences of opinions on creation versus evolution. My problem with evolution is that if we accept the process of evolution where does that leave original sin. God tells us that when he created the world everything was perfect. There was no death . Evolution tells us that as things grew and changed there was the natural selection of one species over the other. Some thrived and others died. God tells us that death entered the world through one man. Adam. So surely if death was in the world before Adam sinned then how did death enter the world through him. In my view if we discount the actual creation in six days then we cannot hold the bible to be completely true. Either we believe all of it or we believe non of it. When i worry i hold to the scripture that before the foundation of the world God knew me. thats not evolution, thats revolution. Friends i believe that intelligence design is the thin edge of the evolutionary wedge. To accept anything less than a creator God is the first step in a slippery slope. Goodness me we have to take the...

The Frontiers of Science
Posted by:  joshopp   (Posted: 08/02/08 3:33pm)
The cover of US News and World Report declares that the magazine will be exploring the The Frontiers of Science. You can imagine how intrigued I was to see that 3 of the 6 stories listed on the cover deal with evolution, the origin of life, and the existence of life on other planets. On the internet, the title declares "Science grapples with some of life's biggest questions." So often, the church has pitted itself up against science and made scientists out to be the bad guys. I would encourage you to read the articles this week and note one thing, that scientists are searching for truth just like everyone else. And just like everyone without Christ, they are looking in the wrong direction. It is so amazing to me how much of modern science is encroaching upon issues of morality, origins, and the meaning of life. This truth really hit home when I read the closing sentence of the article on alien life. Astronaut Shostak states "we're going to find out, one way or another, that biology is not a miracle." What a passionately subjective (and non-scientific) statement mocking the possibility of a Creator. This man is not looking...

Evolution Vs Creationism
Posted by:  ezek125   (Posted: 01/13/08 4:15pm)
Evolution Vs Creationism My fellow Christians, it troubles me when I hear other Christians say the earth is between two thousand and fourteen thousand years old. Matthew 5:16 states "In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." I ask, how can a non-Christian praise our father in heaven when our reply to how old the earth is, is often troubling at best? We have an obligation to God in heaven as Christians, to answer questions presented to us, as concisely as possible. I have heard Christians stumble over the questions about "how old is the earth" and the evolution of man for years. To me evolution and the Bible (My Bible being the Holy Bible New International Version) have never contradicted each other. I am a person of God and I am also a person of science. Three things we understand as Christians. The Bible is the word of God and we are Gods creation. Genesis 1:27 states "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them"...and the third is God is...

Darwin on Trial
Posted by:  slooper   (Posted: 12/17/07 7:14am)
When Phillip E. Johnson published "Darwin on Trial" in 1991, he did not just write another book debunking Darwinism. There is already a wealth of material out there that presents convincing arguments and proofs showing that Darwin's theory can not and, in fact, "did not" happen. The question that arises is this: if Darwinism has been successfully refuted, then why is it still the prevailing theory in the scientific community? It is here where Phillip Johnson goes beyond merely debating the evidence and exposes the philosophy behind Darwinism and its associated reasoning problems. With precise definitions, exceptional logic and exquisite communication skills Johnson reveals that "science" (repeatable testing and observation) is not at the root of Darwinism, but rather naturalistic philosophy. Naturalistic philosophy teaches that all things came into existence as a result of purely natural causes. In Darwinism, only naturalistic interpretations of the evidence are accepted, and any concept of creation, explicitly stated or implied, is considered religious myth and therefore has no application in science. In other words, when a creationist speaks, evolutionists plug their ears. Johnson's aim is to change this naturalistic stranglehold over science by not only exposing the flaws in Darwinism, but by promoting the...

Why Christians Should Have A Problem with Evolution
Posted by:  sothankful   (Posted: 12/02/07 2:36am)
Very early on in my Christian experience, I saw a contradiction of what I read in Genesis, with our cultural belief in evolution. It was a problem. Here I had discovered the Word of God, and yet at the very beginning, Genesis, it appeared that God must have gotten it wrong. He said He created the world in six literal days (and Hebrew scholars confirm that the word used for 'day' which is 'yom' means a literal, twenty-four hour day in its context). If I couldn't trust the opening chapters of the Bible, then which parts could I trust? Why should I believe any of its claims or demands on my life if I could choose to disregard the very foundational chapters? And yet to accept it would bring about cultural pressure. It would go against the accepted belief system of evolution (wonderful design from NOTHING by NO-ONE). Did I dare to believe the One Who was there in the beginning and cannot lie? What did Jesus say about evolution? Is it true to say that He never 'weighed in' on the subject? When asked by the Pharisees whether it was OK to divorce, He answered in Mark 10:6, 'But...

Christ and evolution
Posted by:  uglee   (Posted: 11/26/07 4:35pm)
I know this is a minority view among Christians, but I can't understand why any Christian would have a problem with Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. I think that as long as we stick to what Jesus Christ himself actually said and the views he expressed, we can't go wrong. What did Jesus say about evolution? He never weighed in on the subject. While it is widely assumed that since Jesus was a Jew and accepted the traditional Old Testament version of creation, there is nothing in the Bible which actually says what he thought about it. He did, however, set a precedent for challenging the Old Testament dogma when he negated the Jewish dietary laws. The Jewish dietary laws were no small matter to Jews, but since Chist said they were unimportant, Christians everywhere have ignored them. They are still in the Bible, but we no longer have a problem with them. We could save ourselves a lot of frustration and not risk being out of step with the rest of the world if we leave the matter of evolution for the scientists to determine. Evolution really has nothing to do with Christ and his message. Christ's message is...

Evolution - Fact or Theory or NEITHER
Posted by:  pilgrim   (Posted: 10/01/07 7:36am)
The question is how long does a Theory stand, as a credible theory? After repeated attempts to scientifically valid its hypothesis has failed. While at the same time, the body of empirical scientific evidence continues to refute their hypothesis, and point in the opposite direction, to an Intelligent Designer. The only evidence being offered by the atheistic evolutionist's is 'pseudo-scientific proofs', to which they cling to, like pieces of wood, from a wrecked ship. They hold to them, not because they are scientific, because it is the only thing left to keep them afloat, the mother ship has sunk. The honest seekers of truth having acknowledged it, like Anthony Flew, leaving their driftwood of dogma and ideology, and swimming back to the shore and safety of true science. Anthony Flew, a British philosophy professor and leading champion of atheism recently changed his mind. He cited biologists' research of DNA points to Intelligence or first cause as opposed to evolution for the explanation of the creation of the universe....

Creation, Science, and Evangelism
Posted by:  tracyf   (Posted: 08/23/07 7:04pm)
Creation, science and evangelism all go hand in hand in these modern times. While people may ask you about evolution, you have to remind them that it is a theory. A theory that has absolutely no solid evidence. A theory that actually flies in the face of all the good science that we can measure and evaluate (as you can with all good science). The only evolution you can truly count on is the evolution of the theory itself. Every 10 to 20 years it is turned on its ear. But I have given enough good type to a bad idea. Let us look at the things we can count on. The good Lord gave us a curious mind so we would search for His fingerprint in creation. There are to many irreducibly complex creatures in existence to allow the theory of evolution to gain much merit unless people want to use it as a wedge to displace Gods authority, so they can live as they please. For anyone who wants to learn to witness better, I will tell you two things that have revolutionized my witness. One is Creation Science Evangelism organized by Ken Hovind, which is online under...

God, time, and evolution: by Greg Hayes
Posted by:  greg48   (Posted: 08/14/07 7:20pm)
I proudly grew up under traditional Southern Baptist upbringing. For years, it was instilled in me that the Earth was about 6,000 years old. This was based on the 6,000 years of human history commonly taught by the dispensationalistic doctrine most common in modern Christianity. As I traveled from culture to culture and place to place, while serving in the Marine Corps, I somehow found myself more and more involved in the Pentecostal doctrine where I remain today. I still love the Baptists and all those who find common ground in the immaculate conception, glorious birth, holy life, sacrificial death, and victorious resurrection of our Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. I believe in one Church (the body of Christ), one God, one Holy Spirit, and one heaven for all who believe and thrive in obedience to Him. As I continued to grow and study the Word, I found myself with many unanswered questions. The one question that I would like to address in this writing is why we as finite human beings insist on molding the Almighty into something we, ourselves, can conceive and understand. I find that God allows us to understand only that which He deems to be...

Who Did Cain Marry
Posted by:  tchable   (Posted: 08/06/07 3:04pm)
In Gen 6:1-2 is the story of the sons of God seeing the daughters of men being beautiful and forming marriage relationships with them. (Is it possible also that the sons of men married the daughters of God?) Who are these sons of God? Some say they are fallen angels. How can this be? We see in the Word the sons of God procreating with the daughters of men. Do angels procreate? I think not. Not the elect Holy Angels and not the fallen angels? Even today there is not one more or one less angel, whether holy or unholy, then God created. In Gen 4 beginning at verse 16 we have the story of Cain moving to Nod where he knew his wife and had children. Who created Nod? Who did Cain marry? Who did she come from? In Gen 2:21-25 is the story of God giving man a help meet. Out of Adam's rib He made woman and declared they shall be one flesh. In Gen 1:26-31 we find God's plan for creating man. Man was to have dominion over everything on earth. God made them male and female, blessed them, and told them to be fruitful, multiply,...

Creation vs. Evolution
Posted by:  slooper   (Posted: 07/29/07 6:25am)
Creation vs. Evolution I was a product of the public school system and, as such, I was fed a steady diet of evolution. I was simultaneously raised in the church and learned that according to Genesis, God created all things. Since no mention of creation was made in school and no explicit teaching in my church either established biblical creationism or refuted evolution, I was forced to somehow reconcile these contrary positions on my own. For most of my life that amounted to a kind of tug-of-war where, on the one hand, I was inclined to believe the Bible, but on the other hand, I saw that evolution had the backing of science. Yet it was clear to me that these two views were not, in fact, compatible. In order to fully accept evolution, I would effectively be concluding that the God of the Bible was a myth. But evolution was unable to provide satisfactory answers to a number of my questions. For one thing, evolution did not have a viable answer to how matter came into existence. The Big Bang, the idea that everything in the universe was the size of a dot on this page and then exploded...

The Young Age of the Earth
Posted by:  greybear   (Posted: 06/18/07 1:16pm)
Dr. Robert Gentry & The Young Age of the Earth I'd like to share a video put together by Robert Gentry and his son David Gentry. Dr. Robert V. Gentry is a nuclear physicist who worked 13 years for the Oakridge National Laboratory. He is recognized as the world's leading authority on polonium halos. When he began his research, he was an evolutionist. Today, Dr. Gentry is a fully convinced young earth creation scientist. In 1977 his discoveries led to his being called to testify in defense of the state's creation position at the 1981 Arkansas creation/evolution trial. There he testified his discoveries disproved Earth's evolutionary origin and instead affirmed the Genesis account of Earth's six-day creation and young age. I have posted the first of a 5 part series of videos that share much of what he wishes folks knew about what he calls "Our Young Earth". I hope you enjoy the information and share it with those you may run into and have a view that may differ from creation and a younger earth. Science, the praise of the creation! (A small dissertation) Part II
Posted by:  ministeringinlove   (Posted: 03/05/07 6:35pm)
It is interesting how the universe seems established for one simple thing: human life, and is a great testament to the value being place in us out of the whole of creation. Upon the creation, as shown in Genesis, we see that God rested on the seventh day (Genesis 2:1-3) and made it holy, but was it for Himself that He rested? Is it not so that God, a self-sustained being who is solely dependant on nothing else, needs no break, for He is Almighty, but for what reason would He have rested but for us, the height of His creation. We were made in the image of God, in that we have the capacity to reason. We were made beings sharing the capacity for reason and logic, to be able to recognize the truth of His existence. There is not one aspect of the creation that speaks doubt to God's existence, for each calls out praises to His name: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." For all of that, it is but the height of the creation that speaks doubt to God. In the whole of existence, it is the...

Science, the praise of the creation! (A small dissertation)
Posted by:  ministeringinlove   (Posted: 03/05/07 6:31pm)
The psalmist wrote in the beginning verse of Psalm 19: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands." I find this to be incredibly accurate when considering the wondrous findings or discoveries made by the study of natural processes: science. Cosmology has established with a fair degree of certainty that the universe in which we exist is not the static expanse that it was once thought of, but is rather changing and not just changing, but growing! This was first predicted by a Russian physicist and mathematician by the name of Alexander Friedmann who, through using Einstein's general theory of relativity, that it should not be thought of as static. This was supported by a discovery of Edwin Hubble, in 1929, who found that a galaxy's red shift (a galaxies movement away from us) was directly proportional to the distance the galaxy was from us, meaning that "the farther a galaxy is from us the faster it is moving away!" this meant that the universe could not be static (Hawking, A Brief History of Time, 39-40). Stephen Hawking explained that upon such a discovery, many who found such a proposition as ugly and...

God's Miracles
Posted by:  allforhim   (Posted: 03/01/07 4:08am)
Yesterday our doe or nanny(depending on who you are) gave birth to not one, two but three kids! Triplets! We were awestruck, three perfect little babies. It happened as both my husband and I were taking steps of obedience in our financial situation and BOOM here we have three goat kids, which will result in some income for us. But as I looked at them and watched as they so instinctively found mama's udder and nursed and how mama goat was attentive and loving to all three kids (albeit a little overwhelmed, three!) I was again just pondering in my heart how perfect God designed things to the very last detail and how could anyone believe we all just got here by accident, some freak of nature! His design is so perfect, so complete, that even the animals know just what to do and we bear witness to His Glory in all the little things of daily life. I am so glad that we live on a small farm, and can watch and see all God's little miracles occur before us. I look out in awe as the sun rises in back of our house and comes up behind the...

It is important to me.
Posted by:  onfire   (Posted: 01/12/07 8:14pm)
If you are not passionate about Evolution or Creation and haven't really looked into it, I feel you shouldn't really have a strong opinion on it. It did matter to me. If people say it no big deal then that may be their opinion, it probable makes no difference to them, but my opinion is that it does matter & there would be others that it affects as well. There is a lot of research out there that needs to be read if you want to be able to state strongly you believe either argument. I know of people who want to believe in God, but when it comes to evolution they feel it is proven fact & see no place for God if evolution is right. Others say they would prefer not to look into evolution/creation too deeply because they may find something that turns them off God. But why should we be afraid of science, a lot of recent research is pointing towards creation. When I first became a christian I assumed christians did not believe evolution because to me evolution is just a scientific theory, nowhere near scientific fact. I believe in a God who cares for...

A mighty big fuss about mighty little
Posted by:  needlyfeet   (Posted: 12/27/06 9:16am)
I have often referred to the creation/evolution issue as a "contrived" controversy, generally resulting in much snorting or hand waving from whichever believer or nonbeliever was hearing the reference. Not that I go around trolling for opportunities to throw in my two cents, but my work as a geologist drops me into such discussions probably a bit more than average. It has long been my opinion that the controversy stems more from perception than anything else. I have never found anything in Genesis that does not generally agree with current theory about the beginning of the universe. I do not use "generally" as in "almost" but rather "in a condensed version". God might have given all the details to Moses, but a million pages of Genesis would be tough going for even the most faithful of the faithful. On the other hand, nonbelievers are quite content to cite evidence, both observed and inferred, all the way back to the "Big Bang" and leave it at that. Before that, there is no physical description of any process, so "it just happened in a way not clearly understood" has to suffice. Try using that one with a policeman some time and see...

Creator and Created
Posted by:  clayonmyeyes   (Posted: 05/05/06 6:01am)
One of the difficulties in debating evolution is defining 'human'. If there is any one trait that stands out to make one human it must be creativity. Any hypothetical creature that might have existed before man that walked, talked and looked like us but that had no creative capacity whatsoever could not be human. It is our ingenuity, our ability to imagine, that separates us from the beasts. Ants are industrious and build. Bees have a complex social order. The animal kingdom is highly developed, yet they can not imagine and imagination, or creativity defines man. This only stands to reason as we were created in God's image, the original Creator. We were created in God's image. So we search for Him in things and ways that only man can. We can discuss evolution, morals, creativity, and art. We come up with scientific hypothesis. Some claim that chimps using a stick to retrieve termites reflects creativity. I would argue that this is a highly developed form of positive reinforcement. The conscious production of something entirely new (devoid of trial and error) is a uniquely human trait. Is this the simple product of evolution? Impossible. Ironically, this may be a significant...

What's a Missing Link?
Posted by:  greybear   (Posted: 02/07/06 12:08pm)
What's a Missing Link? Abstract While we don't really know what a missing link is (or was), we can know what they should be. As each type evolves into something else, there should be numerous in-between types, each stage gaining more and more traits of the descendant while losing traits of the ancestor. "John Morris, Ph.D." Evolutionists often speak of missing links. They say that the bridge between man and the apes is the "missing link," the hypothetical ape-like ancestor of both. But there are supposed missing links all over the evolutionary tree. For instance, dogs and bears are thought to be evolutionary cousins, related to each other through a missing link. The same could be said for every other stop on the tree. All of the animal types are thought to have arisen by the transformation of some other animal type, and at each branching node is a missing link, and between the node and the modern form are many more. If you still don't know what a missing link is, don't worry. No one knows what a missing link is, because they are missing! We've never seen one. They're still missing. Evolution depends on innumerable missing links, each...

The Creation Evidence Museum
Posted by:  greybear   (Posted: 01/30/06 8:26am)
The Creation Evidence Museum My family, all 13 of us at the time, visited the Creation Evidence Museum, in Glen Rose-Texas, last year while we lived in Hugo, Oklahoma. (We now live in Ohio.) At the time we were working at The Goodland Presbyterian Boys Home and had the opportunity to take our cottage of boys with us. Carl Baugh, the founder, was there on site at the museum that day and he spoke for the visiting group. There is a speaker scheduled for talks on site (check the scheduled talk times when you get there). He, Carl, was a great speaker for guest of all ages! Appealing at times to the adults while keeping the kids hanging right in there. He also had with him members of NASA, world recognized Archaeologists and Paleontologists, as well as other science experts. They weren't there for us; Carl had a meeting later that day that involved a briefing on an archaeological dig he had just returned from. The big time guests simply sat in on the presentation. We did get to meet them all after the presentation. My boys thought it was cool to meet someone from NASA. If you get near...
