Have We Bred a Generation of Addicts?
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 09/21/2008 4:01am)
In a little publicized story that came out this past week, it was reported that 97% of the kids in America play video games. Specifically, that amounted to 99% of all boys and 94% of all girls. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D937U9BO1&show_article=1 The question that comes to mind is whether we are living in an age where the lines between real and fantasy have been forever blurred. Between video games, movies and television; it would appear that most kids today spend more of their life in some fabricated fantasy land than in the real world. Of particular interest to me is the number of kids who play interactive games with other kids. Supposedly this is a good thing for it helps develop social skills. Whatever happened to everyone sitting around the table playing Monopoly? The problem with these statistics lies in the percentage of kids involved. Even in households with no computer, there is a video game system. Where does this indicate the priorities are with the parents? If given a choice between a learning tool and an entertainment one, the choice ends up entertainment. It is astounding to see the changes that have taken place in a matter of three generations. As a...

W.O.W.
Posted by:  jessamine64   (Posted: 09/11/2008 11:11am)
Well hello to all, and let me set you straight if you think W.O.W. has anything to do with a very popular MMORPG game. And, yes, I know that game, because I have two older teens who were so addicted to it, that I personally played it. This helped me to understand them a little better, relate to the world they live in, and help them become more tuned in to the magical (as in wondrous) world they already live in. I guess everyone needs to escape this world, occasionally. The young people today are surrounded with the tools to do so at the expense of really experiencing life outside a game. High School and College dropout rates are too high in our country. Parents have to be parents and not let their kids spend hours on computer games. Kids under 15 shouldn't have computers with internet access in their rooms. Yeah, thats hardline....but their whole lives are at stake. Maybe ,if more kids were taught to spend a little more time to complete the "level" that God has placed us in on this earth.....to play by His rules, and reap a great reward, they would. Both of my older...

My dad is 37 and he also plays, and also has a lvl 70 warrior on the same server named cyian. we both play and are in the same guild, makin progression in kara,ZA,Gruuls, mags and SSC , although there are are people who bring down the game with their profane language and harassment but overall the game is very rewarding. and anybody who plays will enjoy it because of the rel life economic settings and some of the real life values. even though it is a game and many people are against it i find as a good way to spend my extra time....

World of Warcraft
Posted by:  taslehoff   (Posted: 12/27/2007 9:26am)
Was wondering if there is anyone on here that plays World of Warcraft or has any friends or family that do. I saw a commercial the other day that there are over nine million subscribers now and was floored. I've been playing off and on for a little over two years now. A long time friend introduced me to it and said it was the hot new thing. I was a little skeptical since I really wasn't into gaming anymore but checked it out anyway and was hooked right away. Some of my favorite games growing up were Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior and Zelda of course so this game brought me back to the old days but on a much larger scale. From that to being able to interact with so many people and actually talk to them through Ventrilo, Team Speak and now Skype. Anyway, I am sure there are a few of you that have some thoughts on this game! =D...

Anyone heard of Guitar Hero?
Posted by:  reborn   (Posted: 08/05/2007 7:15pm)
Guitar Hero is a video game were you have to play electric guitar against the Legends of Heavy Metal And Rock. To play the game you are given a playable easy to learn computer gaming guitar were you have to out preform or match your Rock or Heavy metal Guitarist. So why am I bringing this up? I feel "Guitar Hero" would be great If there was a Christian version of it. Imagine a video game in which the youth of today can try to play as good or better than there favorite Christian band? And instead of limiting this to just a playable guitar it can include Base,Drums and Keyboard and lets not forget vocals. I just notice this generation of Children are not like my generation growing up. They tend to prefer playing video games more than playing outside. And unfortunately there are not enough video game alternatives for children to have fun and that is a good influence on them. I am writing this also in hope that someone comes across this blog that has the friend of a friend and the connections to make this happen! Later all, Raul....

Cool game!
Posted by:  raisedonthefield   (Posted: 11/11/2006 7:37pm)
Hey I just wanted to let you know that I found a fantastic game for my kids to play on Xbox. I checked and they also made the same game (called The Bible Game) for PS2. It's really cool. It takes several of the OT stories and let's you be a player in it. Then there's also a trivia game on it. It's great. They also have tons of current music plays on it. It's great. I got it at a local retailer but I noticed that they are now selling it at most national places. Yeah God!...

Gaming With A Christian Flare
Posted by:  greybear   (Posted: 11/03/2006 12:43pm)
With all the hardcore gaming out there to chose from, I thought I'd offer the following info to those parents or teens who may be looking for something with a "faith" flare to it. I don't own any of these, but if I were looking for one I just might consider one of the following. BibleMan, published by Talicor Players try to rescue six children and deliver them safely to the town church. Rules for a basic version (children 3 to 6) and an advanced version (ages 7 and up) are both included. Credo, published by Chaosium An irreverent negotiation game about the politics of the Council of Nicea. Players debate what should be in the creed, using the influence of bishops and a little backstabbing to get their pet lines into the final product. La Foi et la Glaive, published by Azure Wish Players spread religion through dark-age Europe, controlling both a religious and a temporal power. Left Behind, published by Talicor Based on the best-selling novel, the game has two parts -- one in which players work separately to earn tokens and one in which they work together to defeat Carpathia. Mad Monks and Relics, published by Simulations...

Kids' computer ergonomics
Posted by:  clayonmyeyes   (Posted: 10/23/2006 8:31am)
Yesterday my 4-year-old was using our computer. I looked at him and for the first time realized that he was sitting in a huge chair (compared to him) and his neck was craned so far back it was ridiculous. I realized how uncomfortable our computer desk was for him. So I gave him a booster chair and put the mouse within easier reach (a kid size mouse would be even better). A lot of you might already have realized this but if not here's a heads up - make your computer kid friendly. Boost him/her up so that the screen is at eye level at least to make things more comfy. Kids can get neck/back and shoulder problems too....

How To: Run MS Office 2003 Outlook On A Secondary / Slave / Remote-Drive
Posted by:  abelajohnb   (Posted: 03/23/2006 4:51am)
[h5]How To: Run MS Office 2003 Outlook On A Secondary/Slave/Remote-Drive[/h5] (usb flash drive should work too) Overview: The basic idea behind this How-To is to explain how to setup a secondary hard-drive and run your Outlook 2003 from this secondary hard drive. The reason for doing this is: If you happen to have multiple computers that you use MS Outlook 2003 on (I'm presuming you own licenses for both and all that legal stuff I shouldn't have to talk about) - say: one at home, one at the office, and your laptop - then you have no-doubt discovered it's rather a pain in the ol'behind to keep transfering your .pst file from computer to computer to computer each time you relocate to a different machine. And, of course, let's not forget that you have to keep updating each computers email account settings too - Ugggggh. The solution I have come up with utilizes a secondary storage unit to allow you to quickly and easily take your Outlook data with you and always keep things updated no matter where you are. What Started All This: Ok, the basic idea here resolved around the fact that I went out and purchased two...

Avatar Sizing with MS Paint
Posted by:  greybear   (Posted: 01/13/2006 12:11pm)
The goal is to help folks cut and size an image for their Avatar image by using the standard Microsoft Paint program. That image can then be uploaded to a free storage space and then linked to on the member Avatar page. I'll talk about the free storage space in a different Blog. Find and remember where your image file is located that you want to use. Keep in mind the actual final size of your Avatar image is approx. 3/4" x 3/4". (Cut a square of paper to get a visual reference size.) Locate the Paint program on your computer. Open the Paint program. At the top of the page select "File" and then "Open" after the "File" menu opens. Select the folder and file that represents the image you want to use. Double click on the photo and Paint will bring it into the program. In the Icon Menu to the left is a dotted rectangle. Select it. Move the pointer to the image and click and hold the button down. Drag a square approx. 3/4" x 3/4" (actually it's .69"x .69") or 1 ¾ cm x 1 ¾ cm, both of these equate to 60 pixels x...

Protecting Your Computer, Part 1
Posted by:  abelajohnb   (Posted: 12/20/2005 10:02pm)
Introduction: It seems that these days no matter where I go I hear about someone having computers problems. Be it at the local store check-out line, sitting in a church pew, waiting in line for a cup of mocha, in an internet chat-room, and just about everywhere else. The stories are usually the same. Someone complaining about how slow their computer is running - usually due to the massive amount of worthless programs they've installed on their computers - or secondly because they have allowed viruses, spyware, or tracking software on their computers - probably without knowing it. In this two-part series on bring your computer back to life we will first take a look at how to protect your computer to make sure nothing bad happens. In the second part we'll take a look at some common, and not so common, ways of fixing a computer that's been abused. Protecting Your System: Knowing how to protect your computer system is the first line of defense. - Secure verses Insecure In an age when nearly every computer in the world is hooked up to the internet defense is a must. I, on rare occasions, hear people talk about how they...
