Lot and His Daughters Filed 8:05am .Uncategorized .Unedited 30 Lot and his two daughters left Zoar and settled in the mountains, for he was afraid to stay in Zoar. He and his two daughters lived in a cave. 31 One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to give us children—as is the custom all over the earth. 32 Let's get our father to drink wine and then sleep with him and preserve our family line through our father." 33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. 34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, "Last night I slept with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father." 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when...

Some thoughts and observations about this site from an "old timer"
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 07/02/2009 1:40am)
There are a lot of new people on this site, which is very good. There are a lot of people writing blogs for the very first time, which again is very good. This is the middle of summer and people are very busy which is not so good for having the time to read many of the blogs. It is my understanding that Christian Blog is first and foremost a site for Christians to put into blog format things on their heart and mind on a wide variety of subjects. Although there is a very strong community here with many groups and friendships, the predominant thing that separates this site from many others is that it is a safe place to voice one’s opinions regarding God, His Word, life and other matters of personal importance. Many moons ago when I first stumbled upon this site late one night, I was immediately struck by the guidelines laid out regarding what was allowed and not allowed in blogging. Having been, at the time, very new to the blogging idea, this was very welcome to me. If this site would have had no rules and allowed anyone to do as they pleased, there...

DO YOU ONLY HAVE HEAD KNOWLEDGE?
Posted by:  fredlim   (Posted: 07/01/2009 3:42pm)
I recently had a conversation with someone who made the claim that they knew the Bible as well as anyone. They know what the Lord requires of us in our religious life because they had heard it from their parents who were very "religious." This person also never goes to church or associates with a Christian fellowship of any kind. They are basing their relationship with God on their association with "religious parents." This reminds me of the old saying that "just because you live in a garage does not make you a car." Kind of guilt by association! Sorry, it does not work that way! To be a true Christian is not to be "religious" or to be the child of a Christian. You can know the Bible frontward and backward but still not be a Christian. All you will have is "head knowledge." Don't you know that even the devil knows what the scriptures say? Does that make him a Christian? Of course not! To be a Christian we must have a RELATIONSHIP" with God! Not religion! Relationship! We have to know Him as Lord and Savior and then His Word (the Bible) will become the living Word...

Mormon Missionaries
Posted by:  bro04029   (Posted: 06/29/2009 10:59am)
When i was 19 years old i decided, after alot of thought and prayer, that i would volenteer to be a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (usually called mormons). Sense alot of christians don't know alot about these young men in suits riding bikes (usually) i thought i would tell a bit about them. to be clear i am not preaching, i'm just working on the theory that with an increased in knowledge there is an increase of understanding. What a young mormon boy does when he decides to "go on a mission" (thats a common phrase for us) is he "puts in his papers" or applies, gives a brief bio and medical history and church leaders pray about where they should go. there are 348 missions in the whole world that you can be called to. it is very exciting to find out where you will be spending the next 2 years of your life. My friends that went on missions about my same time went everywhere! Bazil, South Africa, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Alaska, Rome, Boston, Philipeans, Philipeans, Philipeans, Utah, Chili, London, Finland, and a ton of other places. I'm from...

Princesses Of God
Posted by:  kreynolds   (Posted: 06/20/2009 5:14pm)
She had discovered the world was often a cruel and dangerous place. As she slipped through the streets trying to find a safe place to rest her head, she could feel the leers and hear the jeers. Cruel laughter ripped her heart in two as people stopped and pointed at her. "Look at her! She's not pretty enough. In fact, she is hideous! Look at her hair! Look at her eyes! Look at her nose! Look at those arms and legs! Look at her body shape! She's too fat! She's too thin! She's too short! She's too tall! What's wrong with her! Look at those rags she's wearing! Look at how dirty she is! Do you see that dirty tear-stained face? How disgusting! She's only good for... " She didn't want to hear the rest. With a sob she found a dark shadowy place where she thought she might be able to hide for a bit. Suddenly, she heard a gentle voice call her name. She started to pull back in fear as a nail-scarred hand gently reached out toward her but then she caught a glimpse of the speaker's face and her world became undone. He was not like...

My Week
Posted by:  godssrvnt   (Posted: 06/18/2009 6:31pm)
Well, my week has been pretty good. Although, it didn't start off that way. It kind of started off not so good. On Monday my husband and I decided to take a nice drive and go up to the hills to look for Morel mushrooms and also to have a hot dog and marshmallow roast. We got to the campsite and I got out to spray the girls with some bug repellent. Well, when I bent down to spray the legs of my one daughter my back decided to lock up. Ouch!!! I was thankfully close enough to the car to grab a hold of so I didn't fall down and was able to make my way into the car. I wasn't about to let it ruin our day, so I told my husband to pull on around to the fire pit. We got to the fire pit and my husband got it lit and we got our stuff on the picnic table. I hobbled over to the table very carefully and sat down. I was in quite a bit of pain and prayed the Lord would ease it. I didn't want to go back home yet and wanted everyone...

What Is It Worth To You?
Posted by:  kreynolds   (Posted: 06/16/2009 8:14pm)
What Is It Worth To You? The words I love ... slip easily off our tongue. Far too easily I think. We say we love our spouse, our family, our closest friends and I hope we do. However we also say we love chocolate, ice cream, a favorite song, starlit summer nights, a favorite sport, a hobby or any number of things. Do we really love all of these things or are we just speaking in the passion of the moment? Anyone can easily say the words but to put those words into action is a different story. Far too many people have learned the hard way that often words expressing love were nothing more than just words be it from a spouse, family members or those whom they believed to be their dearest friends. You see, loving something or someone involves a lot more than just words. It involves some sort of sacrifice on our part. When we love we care about that which we love...not just through our words but through our actions. Please allow me to be frank for a moment. I want to make it very clear that my association with CB is merely as a...

GOD IS SO GOOD i at least have a pool that i can float and swim in, and i can vacation in my pool.. sounds silly to some but for me, it is wonderful at least for a while i can get away from daily routene, and float in my pool.. where i live there are plenty of fields, and trees and...

those missed shots in life
Posted by:  matthewedmunds   (Posted: 06/09/2009 6:38pm)
In life, I have made so many missed shots. There are many situations that I look back on and wish that I had made better choices. There are areas in my life that I know because of the decisions that I made, I am still facing the consquences. Over the past month, I have reflected on the areas in my life that I would like to change and how I can allow God to help me in stepping out of the wilderness and into the fullness of what He has planned for me. As I stated earlier, I know I have missed many shots in life, but I am now attempting to rebound some of those missed shots. I know God isn't done with me and I know He isn't done with you. I know this because we are sill here. If He had nothing else for us, then we wouldn't be here now. If you are reading this and can identify with missing shots in your life and you are at a point of spiritual, personal, or even financial frustration, then I would like to encourage you. God still has plans for you. You are still here arn't you?...

A Text
Posted by:  godssrvnt   (Posted: 06/09/2009 3:16pm)
6-10-09 A Text Instead of making a new blog, I wonder how just adding to an existing blog will work. Not sure, but going to try it out. This morning I awoke to a very touching text from my oldest daughter. She was letting her dad and I know how thankful she is to God for making us her parents and how much she loves us. Admittedly, it brought tears to my eyes. It was really something I needed to hear and I thanked her for sending it. I am so proud of my daughter. She has come a long ways over the past 6 months. She was raised a Christian, but truly finally gave her heart to God this year. It brings me joy to see that all the teaching and guiding my kids to follow the Lord, has really planted the seed in their hearts. My other daughter and only son is running though. Although, my son did make commitment to the Lord this year, but since doing so I have seen him run farther away. Not sure why. It makes my heart ache, but I trust the Lord will grab hold of him sooner or later and...

puppet show
Posted by:  mamaeagle51   (Posted: 06/09/2009 11:38am)
you know i have always loved puppet shows, those talking walking, singing, dancing cloth people in which needs help to move.. just on sunday eve i watched a puppet show, at a v.b.s final celebration.. and ohh the awesome wonder of what lights, and music, and a puppet stage can bring.. and yet sometimes thay can seem so real.. as a child or as a adult a puppet can always move you, and it can expand the imagination, as well, for me as a person who works with children all her life, the old imagination is always on the run.. yes i too work with puppets but by no means a perfornessional.. and yet with the help of the human hand that puppet comes to life.. with out the human hand and voice the puppet is still and quiet.. you know we are like that with JESUS with out his hand and voice we are nothing just a rag in a heap pile.. JESUS sets our stage every day.. the only question is do we hide behind it or come out front?? what goes on behind the stage of a puppet show? well plenty, this one i saw sunday eve...

I wish I had film editing equipment
Posted by:  whobelieve   (Posted: 06/02/2009 6:37am)
I don't know much at all about how to edit a movie. I don't even think you can edit a movie that comes in DVD or VHS form, I think it has to be done way before we can buy it in that way. But it does seem possible, in my technologically inept mind, that I would be able to edit some of my personal movies to my personal liking if I had the right equipment. And boy do I wish I could. There are so many movies that I really do enjoy and own that could use some of this tweaking. They are funny, they have good plot lines, great acting. I admit, I love the movies that make you go "awwww!" I love the funny, the romantic, the feel-good genre. I also enjoy some of the movies that have explosions. The problem I find, is that there are very very few movies that don't add a moment here and there of just plain... I don't know, sin, corruption, vulgarity, whatever. Very very often, these phrases or mere seconds of shooting are totally irrelevant to the story, to the main characters. Did the hero really need to utter that...

and why would He love this? coz Im His.
Posted by:  shanijane   (Posted: 05/31/2009 3:18am)
This Blog isnt a blog looking for sympathy, nor is it a pity party. Its just an example of how God loves us, even when we fall short. Its just a blog about me surrendering too Him. He will take great delight in you, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing. Zeph. 3:17 Ok. So the last few months of my life have been the hardest few months ive experienced, even the healing aspect has hurt, My hearts been broken, my life shaken, ive had people go be with God, Ive turned to booze, had countless nights I cant remember and the list goes on... I’ve walked in many different directions, except toward the goal, I’ve ran as fast as I possibly could, to escape the pain of a new day, knowing that the day could possibly bring more pain and tears. Ive experienced love and loss, Joy and darkness, freedom and pain, happiness and anger and my relationship with Jesus has been put to the test in all areas. The trials have taken their toll, and it has become harder to believe that God still wants an intimate, close relationship with me....

Using bbc code to link blogs together or to other webpages
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 05/30/2009 12:15pm)
Several have asked how to link blogs together or how to include the url to another webpage so that all that needs to be done is to click on the link to take you to the other blog or an outside webpage. It's a wee bit cumbersome, but this is how you can do it: 1. Click on the thingie immediately above this text entry space that says (view bbc code). It is just to the left of the (view smilies) thingie. (I do so love technical terms like "thingie" This will bring up a list of things you can do here using bbc code. One of those is "URL Link." This is what you could use to include the page link to another blog or even an outside webpage within the blog or comment you are writing. 2. Click the button that says "URL Link." This will bring up a prompt box near the top of the screen where you will add the title (webpage address) of the blog or webpage you want to link to. Your security system may also bring up security warnings, depending on how it is set and what security you are using. If using...

Religious?
Posted by:  faithbyword   (Posted: 05/27/2009 8:42pm)
Should Christianity really be considered a mere 'religion'? I here it every time i turn around "the Christian religion" or "religios practices of Christians", but is this truly what being a Christian is about. Let me start by giving MY definition of religoin: 1. An organized system or institution of belief based upon the tradition of man instead of the pursuit of a genuine frienship and relationship with God 2. The act of playing church, exchanging internal truths for external performance; substitutuing spiritual truths for carnal rituals. So according to my personal definition of religion..I am not religios. Going to chuch, giving to charitie, giving a helping hand...these aren't the things that make me a Christian. What makes me a Christian is the personal relationship I have with Jesus Christ through my Faith by believing not only in the eternal truth of Word of God, but the promises it holds. Is it the same for you..or is Christianitly just a mere 'religion'?...

A look back at life 100 years ago--we should be so thankful
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 05/24/2009 2:36am)
The year is 1909. One hundred years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some statistics for the year 1909. My "commentary" is marked with **: The average life expectancy was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. **These are some pretty wild statistics, but this one really amazed me. Of course the question that begs to be answered is "where DID those 86% without a bathtub bathe?"** There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel tower! The average wage in 1909 was 22 cents per hour. The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year. **Now days $22 per hour is scoffed at and looked upon as equal to "minimum wage". Think about this; 100 years ago a dozen eggs cost more than one half of what was made in an hour of work. It took an hour of work to buy a five pound bag of sugar. ** A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a...

Velvet Elvis
Posted by:  murph   (Posted: 05/21/2009 11:09pm)
Velvet Elvis - a very interesting book I've been reading about (my opinion) being/thinking about Christianity "outside the box." I think it's part of God's purpose for me. The author speaks of the times when Christ was living.., what were the churches like, about, preaching, binding and loosing, etc. and what was Christ like...? Christ was a radical, revolutionary, unlike anything the "church" had seen. We, as modern day Christians..., seem to get into a mindset... show up to church, read scripture (or are we... enough), apply, praise, worship, sing, etc. -fill in here what your congregation practices... When Jesus came, he challenged the status quo, he pushed the limits, he had the father's will in mind and wouldn't "sell out" for anything less in his actions/words/thoughts/etc. I look at America today. Outside of Fox News, and the anti-ACLU organization (ACJLU?), besides speaking out to fellow Christians and trying to be mildly persuasive to liberals/non-believers/the morally bankrupt, what are we doing to speak up? Having traveled the world a bit, I am convinced that America is the last country from top down that holds Christ closest. We are accused, as Americans as being arrogant. I'll take it a step further....

Happiness, and How to get it....
Posted by:  treetop76   (Posted: 05/20/2009 3:41am)
I was updating my journal and came across this... 5 Habits of Truly Happy People 1. DONT Believe everything you think. According to medical experts we have an average of 60,000 thoughts a day- about one thought per second, During every waking hour. Of those 60,000 thoughts 95% are the same thoughts we had yesterday, and the day before etc. Most of these thoughts are habitually negative. By having these thoughts we stimulate areas of the brain that involve depression and anxiety. Important fact- Our thoughts are not always true! We have an inborn tendency to register negative thoughts, feelings, and experiences more deeply than positive ones. The Happy 100 are skeptical of their negative thoughts and have learned not to let false alarms hijack their happiness. 2. NOTICE the happy things in your life NO MATTER HOW SMALL! A cherokee elder told his grandson a story about the battle that goes on inside peoples heads- The battle between two wolves that live inside us all. One is UNHAPPINESS - it is FEAR, WORRY, ANGER, JEALOUSY, SORROW, SELF-PITY, RESENTMENT, and INFERIORITY. The other is HAPPINESS - it is JOY, LOVE, HOPE, SERENITY, KINDNESS, GENEROSITY, TRUTH, and COMPASSION. The grandson asked...

Stuckness, Lessons from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and Nike
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 05/12/2009 10:59am)
I'm stuck. Just plain stuck. I know what I want to do, I have a plan for doing it. But I'm having trouble getting started. I just don't know exactly HOW to start. I'm stuck! Well, as I ponderded this, I recalled a book I first read over 30 years ago. For over 25 years, it has rested unpoened on my bookshelf. I pulled it out today to find this on stuckness. It is taken from Robert Persig's "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance." (pg 272) "...stuckness, a mental stuckness that accompanies the physical stuckness of whatever it is that you are working on. A screw sticks, for example, on the side cover assembly (of a motorcycle). You check the owner's manual to see if there might be any special cause for this screw to come off so hard, but all it says is 'Remove side cover plate' in that wonderful, terse technical style that never tells you what you want to know. There's no earlier procedure left undone that might cause the cover screws to stick. If you're experienced you'd probably apply a penetrating liquid and an impact driver at this point. If you're inexerienced and you attach...

100 days? report card?
Posted by:  angelita   (Posted: 05/09/2009 4:20pm)
Wow, I have been a member here for exactly 100 days. So time for a report card for cb. A for being the safest place on the web A for encouraging others A for sharing the word A for putting God first ( I believe this is the most important one) I have learned so much here already. I know that I have grown as a christian here. I feel very blessed to have witness the first Lord's Supper in chat. I feel very blessed to have seen the site not go in the red last month. I have been blessed by the many welcoming friends here. I have been blessed by all the prayers that went up when my kids were sick. I love reading the blogs and coming away from it smarter or with new insight on a passage of scripture that I didn't have before. So I just want to thank you for being there for me and I look forward to the next 100 days and then the next and the next well you get the picture. Praise God and may He bless everyone here. angel...

To visitors to CB... Welcome and an invitation
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 05/06/2009 7:32am)
For visitors to ChristianBlog, welcome! And an invitation... As I have published recent blogs here, I have noticed something very interesting. When I go to view my blog, a step necessary when publishing a new blog, I find that I've already had anywhere from 5 to 12 "views." This occurs in only a matter of seconds. I have absolutely no idea how this happens. Perhaps there are a few people out there so very interested in what I have to say that they simply wait at their computers for something new to pop up. I kinda doubt that. Nothing I have to say is THAT interesting. Another interesting thing is that when I review the statistics of views on what I have placed here, the majority of viewers show up as visitors or "non-members" of CB. Here, I have a little bit of an idea of how this could happen. Either members are viewing recent blogs without signing in or we have a much larger audience here than any of us realize. With over 10 million page views, this is quite a popular place! The "record" of 129 who visit here each day is most certainly an understatement. I also...

Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 05/04/2009 2:33am)
How much is enough? This question resonates through every fabric of our society. At what point should we cease trying to accumulate and start trying to give more? This is a question perhaps less than 1% of all people ever consider. Perhaps more should. Back in 1999, a year after my dad had died, my mom finally realized that she was not going to be able to live alone in the home she and my dad had bought back in 1958 any longer. It took two months but by August 1st of that year she had succeeded in sorting through her 81 years of "stuff" and my sister and I had managed to get it all packed securely for the 100 mile trip to her new apartment in a retirement center in the town she grew up near. What was left in the house, which was tons of stuff, was my responsibility to organize, price and sell during a four day "estate sale". Despite being very weak and sick I managed to conduct the sale and gain for my mom about $2,500 more dollars she did not need. She graciously gave my $250 for my work. She gave my sister...

satan is bigger then me.
Posted by:  shanijane   (Posted: 04/30/2009 4:33am)
Satan is bigger than I am and should I choose to fight him, I will lose. Every day the battle within me is whether I should fight him or not. Every day! I get so tired... so, so tired. You don't understand! Maybe you do! But some days I just can't stand it. Satan wants nothing more than to ruin my days. I think actually he laughs at my struggles, in a way he feeds off them!. Sicko!. He also knows what I have done in my life. He knows all of the areas I have fallen short in. all of my mistakes, my failures, my pain and my hurts. He knows I can't escape my past. He knows it and wants it to be strong in my mind EVERY DAY. For if its on my mind, my day is ruined. Satan is bigger than I am But MY God is even bigger. I know this! Satan, you can't have me. Im not your child, nor am I apart of your army. My God saved me from my past so I don't have anything to escape from. My God controls me. I am His and He is mine! Through Him...

we need to be aware of what our kids read
Posted by:  angelita   (Posted: 04/29/2009 3:14pm)
I didn't know where to post this information. We as parents need to be aware what our children are reading. I personally check all books my kids read. Some of you that work at school may be more aware of this book or know if our local schools are pushing or not pushing it. If you have children or grandchildren, work with children at church, or you have neighborhood children whose parents you know, please take note of the information below and pass it along to others. Schools are distributing this Book to children through the Scholastic Book Club. The name of the book is Conversations with God.. James Dobson talked about this book twice this week. It is devastating . Parents, churches and Christian schools need to be aware of it. Please pass this information on to Church/e-mail addresses, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, friends. Please pay special attention not only to what your kids watch on TV, in movie theaters, on the internet, and the music they listen to, but also be alert regarding the books they read. Two particular books are, Conversations with God and Conversations with God for Teens, written by Neale D. Walsch. They sound...

ESV Study Bible on super-sweet sale at ChristianBooks.Com!
Posted by:  abelajohnb   (Posted: 04/29/2009 11:06am)
Hey all, Just wanted to pass along this super-sweet deal that ChristianBooks.Com is having right now! They've got the ESV Study Bible (black bonded leather) on sale for $37.99!! This beats even the low price that Amazon.Com usually has for this awesome Bible! For those of you unfamiliar with the "ESV" it stands for "English Standard Version" and is the newest main-stream Bible translation to be developed. Here is a small graph to show you where it is at, in relation to accuracy of other translations: While I am not here to say that one translation is any better or worse than any other, that one is more Biblical Authenticated than any other, I myself do not use a mainstream Bible (aka: kjv, niv, asv, etc) as I opt to use the Peshitta (online here:OT, NT) which pretty much nobody in the USA uses... but this just shows that I'm not one of those "If it isn't the KJV it isn't the Bible" kind of weird people. I truly do think the ASV has some serious merit, as do a lot of other people people such as R. C. Sproul, John Piper, Max Lucado, Dr. Thomas R. Schreiner so-on-and-so-forth. Anyway,...

A Birthday Worth Remembering
Posted by:  cowgirldiva   (Posted: 04/28/2009 2:03pm)
The day my friend (hockeychick4christ as she's referred to one here) asked me to go with her to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater to celebrate her birthday, I was elated. For forever and a day, I had always wanted to go to "Chanhassen" as we locals call it and I was finally getting my chance. Better yet, it was with my dear friend and her family. My mother and I were planning to attend a show, but unfortunately, money was tight. So last Saturday, the day I had been anxiously awaiting, we all went to enjoy the performance "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." What to Wear? As most women know, it is somewhat important when going on an outing like this to find something nice to wear. And boy did I have a tough time . If I were smart, it would've been an easy decision to make, but alas, sometimes I lose my head . I had boughten a short-sleeve, black dress with a cute red belt at JC Penneys for a grand total of... *drum roll*... 7 dollars! I was excited about my find but when I learned that the weather was only supposed to be 50 that nights,...

Maximum Efficency without Trying?
Posted by:  disciplevance   (Posted: 04/28/2009 10:46am)
"Maximum efficiency without trying" When I was a new believer God gave me a philosophical concept I call, "Maximum efficiency without trying." It has served me well, and it even works on the spiritual level, but be careful about telling people you're going to get into heaven 'without trying.' Maximum efficiency is easy to sell, who wouldn't like to be able to operate at maximum efficiency? It's found by bracketing. First you go too far one way, then you reverse directions and go too far the other way, then you make finer and finer corrections until you get it just right. The process is the same when you're tuning a guitar, an engine, or a radio. When it's just right it's much more than just not too flat or too sharp, to a trained ear something special happens, - - - it's "in tune." It's difficult to find maximum efficiency by trying to sneak up on it. You usually need to get a little radical to find what it takes to make your new sports car spin out, or how slow you can fly an airplane without stalling. Maximum efficiency is seldom found at full throttle, a motorcycle tends to...

The Gospel told as a Ferry Tale?
Posted by:  disciplevance   (Posted: 04/28/2009 10:15am)
THE GOSPEL (for women and children only, no theologians allowed) I would like to tell you the Gospel in the form of a romantic story. After all that's what it's all about. Christ romancing, His bride. This story should sound quite familiar, because this is the basic plot for almost every fairy tail that has ever been told. (A vision and a quest, - - - the (apparent) death of the vision, - - - a miracle, - - - and the happy ending) The prince of light searched his kingdom over and chose his bride to be. They were betrothed, but before a date for the wedding could be set, his princess was beguiled by the lies of an evil dragon disguised as a handsome prince from a nearby kingdom. The prince immediately left his throne and traveled to the center of the kingdom of the dragon to search for his princess. He went alone without his army, and took no weapons or money. Walking the streets by day and sleeping on the ground at night, he tried to be as inconspicious as possible, but he soon began to stand out because of his goodness. People were saying he...

a different type of prayer.
Posted by:  shanijane   (Posted: 04/28/2009 12:06am)
Makes one think! I dont know anyone who has not been at fault of any of the below. I know i have! Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the moron who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother of 3, who worked 10 hours that day and was rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and other household chores and spend a few precious moments with her children, before doing it all again. Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, excentric, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old university student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not being able to make ends meet so he can study next semester. Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking bum, begging for money in the same spot every day, who we all think really ought to get a job and stop scabbing off people! is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares! Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savouring this moment, knowing that, based...

Okay, so I have been a member here for almost 1 year. Yeah me!! I should celebrate this wonderful occasion. Just wish I could take you all with me. Now, if it was my REAL birthday there are so many places we could go and get our free birthday treats. Do you realize what it means when it is your birthday, companies LOVE to give you free stuff on your birthday. Only thing is... I am not sure I would survive all the free sweet treats. Here are a few companies that give desserts to the birthday girl (or boy) Baskin Robbins, Bruster's, Cold Stone Creamery (my personal fav.), Dunkin Donuts, and Marble Slab Creamery all give free ice cream. Also, Culver's, Dairy Queen, Friendly's, and Fruddrucker's gives free ice cream (type of ice cream depends on the store) with purchase. Krispy Kreme gives you a dozen donuts free when you buy a dozen (who doesn't like donuts) Rita's gives a free small Italian Ice At Caribou Coffee you get a free drink. Sheridan's Frozen Custard - never heard of the place but if it was my birthday I would get a free treat. Would you rather have some substantial...

Story line of this year...
Posted by:  asharpeworks   (Posted: 04/27/2009 6:38pm)
Okay, so I am finally in a place where I can actually share everything that has happened since the beginning of the year. My life has been pretty much a windy spiral, but not a tornado or hurricane, just a slight tossing. The year started out very generally strong. I am starting this business and am really looking forward to sharing it with an audience who might be interested. I am excited to say that while things in my personal life outside of the professional arena have been slipping, I am getting more and more anxious to reveal things to a wide audience. The first that came about was an email message from a close friends daughter. He lived in Florida and I had not heard from him in many months, he was suffering from cancer and had passed away. Without his forethought of giving his daughter his sign in information to contact our group of friends, I would have never known of his passing because of the distance. This brought me to tears to find out this wonderful friend has lost his battle, but this was just the beginning of it all, the first breeze of the winds. The...

Ever feel quilty?
Posted by:  fredlim   (Posted: 04/26/2009 9:13am)
When my wife went to be with the Lord in 2004 I was approached by a well meaning friend who asked me whether after all those years together (49) I thought about things from our past that I felt guilty about. I could not answer right away because the thought of guilt never crossed my mind. As I pondered this question in the days after the funeral I realized that there was a time when I would have looked back at my mistakes and felt quilt on many an occasion but for many years it never crossed my mind because when I came to the Lord in April 1966 and was Born Again as a new creation of God the Holy Spirit opened my mind to not look back on my old self because that was under the Blood of Jesus. If I brought it up then I would say that the Blood of Christ didn't do the whole job! Now I was free from my past and able to receive forgiveness for any future mistakes. All we have to do to receive this forgiveness is repent of our sin and ask God through His Son Jesus Christ to forgive...

Ended Up Moving After All
Posted by:  missdae   (Posted: 04/24/2009 10:56am)
Well I haven't blogged here in a long time, lol. Didn't even realize how long it had been since I visited the site. Well my family and I ended up moving to Tennessee after all, and I have to say it was a great decision, thank God for his direction. We have learned so much about ourselves and about Him since we moved here. Our faith has grown by leaps and bounds and I think moving really gave us the ability to really believe in his provision. Overall life is just so much more positive and wonderful. I went back and reread my first blog and I was really surprised by how terribly negative I sounded. No wonder things weren't going well, haha! I'm really happy with where I am now, not only as in the location, but with my mind set and everything. God has just been teaching me so much about Him and about myself. I'm much more content and the funniest part is that we are doing better here than we were in Ohio even though my husband is actually making less per hour than he was! God has really humbled us and I have learned that...

Building Relationships And Community Takes Time And Requires Effort
Posted by:  kreynolds   (Posted: 04/24/2009 5:06am)
Christianblog.com is an amazing and may I say a bit unusual/unique site in that while many come here initially to just blog, they discover this truly is a blogging community. That was a pleasant surprise for me! I stumbled upon this community back in July 2007 when my son suggested I try blogging. At the time I was reluctant because I didn't want to connect just anywhere. My story is similar to so many. God helped me stumble across it very quickly. I liked what I saw and became a premier member rather quickly as well. I believe it was just within a few days and I made some additional contributions as well. Four months later, I got diagnosed with breast cancer. I've written about that elsewhere so I won't go into that but the point I wanted to make was I learned first-hand that part of the reason I was here (a bigger part than I initially realized) was because God knew I was going to need to be "connected" with this community. In my nearly 21 months here, I've seen a lot of people come and go. I've also seen some people who have been here for the...

remember joseph, the economy for dummies
Posted by:  evaagape   (Posted: 04/23/2009 5:43pm)
Be encouraged the economy that we are presently facing is no more a formidable opponent for the God we serve, than a new born in the ring vs. the heavy weight champion of the world. We tend to make more of the present crisis than it is. To shine some light on the situation lets take a look at the life of Joseph. Knowone was aware that a 7 year famine was coming. Well except for God that is, he was fully aware and prepared ! God showed Joseph in a dream that this was coming, though he didn't understand the dream's meaning at the time. Jealous of their younger brother, Joseph's brothers sold him into Egypt. While in Egypt God gave Joseph favor with his new master(boss). His bosses wife liked Joseph as well, a little to well and when Joseph would not sleep with her, she accused him of rape and was thrown into prison. Joseph remained behind bars for several years for a crime he did not commit....

What's Wrong With Your Hair? It's Just A Bad Haircut!
Posted by:  melisa   (Posted: 04/22/2009 7:29am)
I have been long overdue for a haircut, but, like a lot of women, I dread cutting my hair. So after telling my husband for a month how badly I needed a haircut, he all but pushed me out the door yesterday. I toyed with the idea of just riding around for about one hour, coming home and just saying thank you when Matt said, "Your hair looks nice!" I thought of different excuses of why I couldn't get my hair cut and finally, I gave in and went. I don't usually do salons, I hate making appointments, I just want to go when I want to go, so I go to a walk-in chain. I walked up to the counter, gave my name, stated what I desired and sat down. As I sat there waiting, I looked at all of the hair stylists, noting the girl that I was hoping I would get. She was very stylish, cute and she was the only one that acknowledged me with a smile when I walked through the door. There was quite a line infront of me and as I waited, there soon was a good size line behind me too. I...

Putting Life Into Perspective:
Posted by:  brianjstover   (Posted: 04/20/2009 2:38pm)
What do you think? On April 10th, 2009 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, a person we know went jogging. During his jog, he noticed the weather setting in and started heading back toward home. On his way, hail started pouring from the sky and he immediately understood that it was time to seek shelter. He was in a small stretch of road with a few businesses and homes scattered along the way but the quickest place to get out of the weather was down the small ravine next to him where an outcrop of trees and bushes were growing. As he ducked into the bushes and under the trees to seek shelter from the hail, it suddenly stopped. A dead silence filled the air. This was a little unsettling since the hail was just pelting the earth just seconds before. Far off in the distance he heard something. It was as if a train was making its way across countryside rolling down some stretch of track that he was unfortunately standing on. His face turned pail as the sound grew closer and the sky grew darker. He knew it was too late to get into a building and he definitely couldn't outrun...

You can't go into chruch with dirty feet
Posted by:  angelita   (Posted: 04/19/2009 12:44pm)
I wanted to tell you about a time I went to Mexico. It was around July. It was very hot and we had a full day of festivites to go to. I had been asked to be my nephews madrina for the graduation ceramony. The day started off with a trip into town to go to the market. We walked for a few miles to get there. It was very crowded and everyone was in a hurry. See one of my responciblities was to get some gifts for my nephew. He also needed the appropiate attire to attend graduation. So, with my kids in tow, I rush around trying to find everything. I left my mother-in-law at the food market, she needed to pick up a few things. Now I was alone with my kids and it seems everyone was staring at me, I did stand out, I was the only white person there. Rebeca was about 18 months old and was crying that her leg hurt, she had just gotten her cast off a week earlier but that is another story. Aryana was whining about the fact she wanted to stay at the house to play with her cousins....

You can see the Son through the rain
Posted by:  angelita   (Posted: 04/19/2009 12:43pm)
It was a rainy cool Friday afternoon. I was tired because I had been cleaning all day. I had even washed the windows. What for right, it was raining and no sunshine to come through them. Alexander had been having a bad day of potty training. Yuck, right, I know too much information. I was up all night the night before with a nasty head cold. Anyway, the kids had cabin fever. For those of you who don't know what cabin fever is I will explain, it is when your kids are coped up in the house or car and can't go outside, they need to get their energy out so they start to drive you crazy and make monster size messes. Aryana had arrived home from school. I was too tired to go through her back pack. I told her to put it on the dining table and I would get to it as soon as I got through folding laundry. She wanted a snack. I got them some fruit roll ups. I went to my room and started folding laundry. I begin thinking, is this is what my life is about, cleaning, cooking, laundry, and not even a...

we walk the walk, but do we live the talk.
Posted by:  shanijane   (Posted: 04/16/2009 5:40pm)
Ok, so I was at youth group the other day, stuffing around and not exactly listening to a guest preacher, then got an email today asking if I could write a summary of his sermon too put in the newsletter, (Just my luck!). Ok, I was listening but was distracted by my phone and my iPod and what the others youth were doing, and why there was a beach ball wedged in the roof rafters, but I wasn't taking any of it in. So, today I sat here and was like.. eek! what do I actually remember. Amazingly, I actually remembered most of it. So, the story went something like this. A few years ago a group of salesmen went to a sales convention overseas somewhere. They had assured their wives that they would be home in plenty of time for Din dins. In their rush at the airport, with tickets and briefcases, one of the salesmen accidently kicked over a table which held a display of apples. Apples flew everywhere. Without stopping or looking back, they all managed to reach the plane in time for their nearly missed boarding. All but one! He paused, took a deep breath, got...

Floral overstocks. Better than a great deal!
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 04/16/2009 1:13pm)
Floral overstocks. Better than a great deal. One of the benefits of working where I do is deep discounts on overstocks. Employees only, ya know. Well, as I was shopping for groceries this morning, I noticed that we had bunches of flowers in the overstock bin. Actually, this happens fairly often. So, I added them to the cart and brought them home. I got the same reaction I get every time I do this. "Ahhhh... you didn't need to do that." Now, this always seems to be accompanied by shining eyes and a bright smile. This morning, I also got a "you're so sweet!" Please, don't let that get out. Let it be our lil secret. I have a reputation to keep, you know. This week and next, the schools in our area will be having their proms. Maybe, just maybe, I'll loosen up and buy her a corsage. Please don't tell... Shalom, Art Alive in the Word...

It's Thursday. Time to wind the clock
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 04/16/2009 8:17am)
Over 25 years ago, my wife and I purchased a grandfather clock. I remember that day so well. I'd recently changed jobs, involving a family move across half a continent. We'd purchased a new home. Money was really tight, so this was a major purchase for us. The boys were with us that day as well. It was a big adventure, a very special day. Now, I have gotten into the habit of winding that clock at about 9:00 every Thursday morning. A small thing, but it is important to me that the clock be taken care of each and every Thursday. Seems a bit obsessive, doesn't it. Maybe it is. I remember my father, so many years ago, winding the statburst clock over the mantle every Sunday night. At about 7:00 he would get up from whatever he was doing (often it was a cribbage game with... .ME!) to wind that old, ugly clock. My dad has been gone now for over 41 years. I miss him. I talk to him nearly every day. My sons never got to know him. He was the only father my wife ever knew, and that only for a very short time. Yes,...

One drop...
Posted by:  luckyone   (Posted: 04/16/2009 6:41am)
He went up to that hill again. Three more men died up there today. He hated going up there, the hill gave him a truly uneasy feeling. On the really hot days he could smell the rotting flesh. Birds circle overhead riding thermals looking for a morsel. He looked up and realized that he was no different. He goes up there to see if the soldiers, in there haste to get to their feasts left behind any food or winnings from casting lots. Last time he found three gold coins. He hurried to get up there today. The soldiers were under a lot of pressure today, because the crowd was huge. He was sure that they left behind something today. He just knew that he would find something valuable today. On the road up the hill he thought about the third man. He flashed back to when he heard him teach by the sea. He stirred the crowd at times but every word was heard. He remembered thinking that the man was peaceful and that his teachings were contrary to what the rabbis were teaching in temple. There was something about how he told the people to "feel" the law...

Why I write? An attempt to answer many questions.
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 04/14/2009 12:17pm)
During my short time here, I've often been asked questions about why I write, where I get my ideas, what sources I use etc. Beleive me, this writing (blogging) thing is entirely new to me. So I ask myself the same question: Why do I write. So, for any interested, here's a bit of useless insight into the mind of Art. (It's kinda a small space, so it won't take long) With the exception of boring technical stuff, I've really never done much writing before I came to CB. Didn't think I had any talent, just had nothing of interest to write about. But I am a voratious reader. I read a lot of history and historical fiction. It facinates me to see how we have come to be as we now are. History does repeat itself. A bit over a year ago, I began reading the Bible. Now THAT is one good book. I highly recommend it. This week, I will have made it cover to cover. But, like painting the bridge, when I finish at one end, it is time to go back and start again. I know I missed most of it on first reading. Writing helps...

My Easter Sunday 2009
Posted by:  armoredbygod   (Posted: 04/12/2009 6:35pm)
So this is going to sound silly, but its true. There are times where I am afraid of Easter Sunday. Two years ago we had an Easter Sunday where there was little to no focus on Christ or his miraculous resurrection, My wife and I came home and the night felt so uneasy. The next day my wife had lost her job and for the most part a great deal of her confidence. I've tread Easter Sunday very lightly since then. This Easter Sunday carried a lot more reverie with it and I carried the mystery of Christ's resurrection in my heart and spirit, not out of fear but for love and respect for our father. I went to a service at my mother-in-law's church (sort of a big deal because I haven't figured out which denomination that I subscribe to yet) and her pastor said such words of comfort and understanding to me. He prayed for the Captain of the ship held hostage by the Somali Pirates (He was rescued and I found out after the pastor said that prayer for him!). I'm sitting in the pew waging war against the remnants of what social awkwardness that I may...

What is a Christian and a Christians responsibility?
Posted by:  genesis1   (Posted: 04/08/2009 6:14am)
I recently had this simple thought and asked myself this question.what is a christian and what is my responsibility as a christian and after some time given to this thought I got some answers.firstly the word christian means basically to be like Jesus and I got a simple scripture, which happens to be my blog name, in in genesis 1 of the KJV( I read this bible with the amplified version because I get deeper revelation and the power has not been removed from the scriptures)and it said that we were made in his image and 'likeness'... note the word likeness...very important compared to being like Jesus and couple this with the story of the fig tree that Jesus rebuked to whither away and thereafter the desciples questioned him about this and Jesus told them that they must be like God or have the Faith of God...so I take a few steps Back and I ask the holy spirit a couple more questions(he is my helper), if we were made to be like God... then why are we not doing the what he instructed us... The bible God walked with adam in the cool of the day and that he...

Little steps
Posted by:  asharpeworks   (Posted: 04/05/2009 1:26pm)
Today I decided to sit and look through more of my options for my web business. I have decided that it is going to be a much more difficult beginning than I thought. I was able to updated more of my page and get it to seem a little more user friendly. I have little to no feed back on it thus far which makes it very aggravating as I am sure you can all understand. It is my fault for not getting it on here sooner though, blogging is not really a strong point for me when I have little to speak about. The last couple months have been filled with death and scares around me. I have two friends and a family member who have accepted their places with the Lord. This week will be difficult I feel as I am taking my grandmother to the hospital to have skin cancer removed from her ear. She and I have just started to get to know each other again. I feel that I am pushing her away little by little because I am scared to lose another person in my life which isnt fair to her. When I was...

The great value of a single comment
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 04/03/2009 2:13pm)
"If a blog is dropped into a site, and many viewers see it, but don't comment, did anyone read it?" Or more importantly, did anyone get anything from it? A month ago, I found this site, did a bit of exploring. It seemed just right for where I am on my journey right now. I thought it could fit a lot of things I wanted (or needed) right now. I'd never done any "blogging" before. Fact is, being a bit of a techno dinosaur, I'd never been to a blog site before. But I thought I'd join up. I posted a long and boring self introduction. Didn't know what to expect, not really much. That's what I got, not much. Let me add that I hadn't learned to navigate here yet either, a hinderence to be sure. Nor did I understand the difference between narative writing and blogging. Next day, I posted my first "content blog." Again, I didn't know what to expect. 1 day, 2 days. A couple of viewers. No comments. I was a bit discouraged, I admit. Was I like a tree falling in the forest with no one around? Then, a comment. A single comment. And...

It's only 1 month, but what a month it's been! Thanks CB
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 04/02/2009 12:05pm)
Guess I'm feeling a bit nostalgic. Tomorrow marks 100 days for me here. WOW, it's hard to belive it's only been 100 days! One month at CB. What a month! One month ago today, I joined Christian Blog. What a month it has been! I am so anxious, perhaps too anxious to come here, to learn, to share, to laugh. So many things have happened here at CB this month. Biggest perhaps has been the Christian Blog Festival organized by Blessings2You. Wheel chair races, good cooking, lots of Coke in many flavors (thanks, gracie), a wide variety of music, and baptisms in the rivers. What an event! Alight has given us an amazing view into Jesus' last days. Read it. It is riveting, eye opening. We have shared in the pain of child raising, especially when our children give us special challenges we can't understand. Yet, parents have shown such amazing strength and find such joy in their children. Thank you, Melisa and girlforgod. We have such humorous bethyisms, that girl sure does get into some pickles. But she gives us good lessons, for sure. Be careful of mattresses and cassette players. ilovehimso has returned to school. I wish her...

OK. this was just an email i got sent but i love it, I was undecided as to whether to post it in the women only section or General, but figured it was worth a read to everyone. Hope u enjoy it like i did. xxx. THE ONE FLAW IN WOMEN By the time the Lord made woman, He was into his sixth day of working overtime. An angel appeared and said, "Why are you spending so much time on this one?" And the Lord answered, "Have you seen my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic, have over 200 movable parts, all replaceable and able to run on minimum food and leftovers, have a lap that can hold four children at one time, have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart -and she will do everything with only two hands." The angel was astounded at the requirements. "Only two hands!? No way! And that's just on the standard model? That's too much work for one day. Wait until tomorrow to finish." But I won't," the Lord protested. "I am so close to finishing this creation that...

Programming My GPS for New Jerusalem
Posted by:  tchable   (Posted: 03/28/2009 7:26pm)
Sometimes I dream of my new home. The one which will be forever. The one which will descend through the new heavens to new earth. In these dreams I wonder what this home will be like. Once I dreamed of entering a heavenly home. However, it was not the eternal home which descends from the heavens. This home was a temporary home where I would be until our new heavenly home is prepared. There is a temporary home for departed souls. There is one for the saved and another for the unsaved. The one for the saved was taken to heaven with Jesus when He ascended on high. It is hard to imagine a home more wonderful than our temporary heavenly home. Still, there is one, and it is coming soon. I can hardly wait to see new earth. It is hard to imagine such purity. No diseases, no stale water, no polluted air, no burned trees, no death anywhere, not even any tears. There being no oceans is hard to imagine. I have often wondered why no oceans. Could it possibly be because so much room will be needed for the multitudes of people composing the nations of those...

Why I Chose TchAble as my Nickname
Posted by:  tchable   (Posted: 03/27/2009 3:43pm)
Hummmm ... I like to think I'm open to new discoveries however I know sometimes it takes much more than a little shaking to get my attention. Preconceived notions are hidden behind veils making them difficult to see and even harder to recognize. But God is good . . . in what He is trying to reveal He gives no rest until eyes are opened. Sometimes this takes some time. In mediums such as this one, sometimes, there are those who get irritated when others refuse to spend much time going back and looking into something they already have peace in. It isn't productive returning to and rehashing those things which are already settled in your spirit. Maybe it is better for one to move on to either writing or reading another blog while seeking understanding and revelation in things which remain a mystery to them. I may be the only one, however, there are many blogs written that I have no interest in reading solely because of the title and knowledge of the author and where they stand on that particular doctrine or issue. If one knows it will turn into a point of contention, then why expose yourself...

To whom shall we turn for wisdom...?
Posted by:  tohimbeglory   (Posted: 03/27/2009 9:06am)
I was reading a devotional from a denomination who respect some bible books not recongized in the cannon. I tells for today that we should not trust on our own wisdom but seek the counsel of others. And I thought that was pretty fair. We need to take counsel from others when we need a decision to be made. But I think the best counsel is from prayer and turning the problem over to the Lord first and then maybe get a second opinion on whom the Lord touches to guide your life. It is important to examine the integrity of the one giving you counsel. We want someone who is sincere and truly helping. Experience is a big help. We need someone who's been there in the same situation and can guide us. Secular help is not bad. We need to know what science knows about it and certainly medical doctors know a lot about the body when it's about an illness. Physicologist know something about depression and can recommend some good drugs that can help the body when it can help itself. Professional advice is a good standby. Don't expect to pray away cancer or that God will...

Where is He when it hurts?
Posted by:  shanijane   (Posted: 03/20/2009 5:39am)
We are living in hard times now a days, the first person people want to blame when something bad happens is God. Why did he let this happened to me, or if there is a God why does He let so many bad things go on, Where is God now? Where is God when it hurts? Where is God? If you are a believer in Jesus Christ, God is with you, beside you, above you, and inside you. God's presence and watchful care never leaves you. If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, God is right in front of you, inviting you, drawing you, offering you the love, mercy, and grace that He longs to give you. Perhaps a better question than "Where is God?" is "Where are you, in relationship to God?" After Jesus was crucified, He was glorified (1 Peter 1:21, Mark 16:6,19; Romans 4:24-25). From this example alone we can be assured that even when we do not feel God's presence in the midst of our pain, we can still believe His promise that He will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). "God sometimes permits what he hates to accomplish what he loves"...

Why Doesn't Life Turn Out The Way We Want It????
Posted by:  pieceofclay   (Posted: 03/18/2009 12:01pm)
Most of us have hopes and dreams for our lives, many of which begin early in life and others appear later as we've grown older. Some turn out exactly the way we had hoped, while others, even as bad as we desire them, don't turn out at all. For a lot of people, many of whom follow Christ, life doesn't always turn out the way they had wanted. We all experience the disappointment of unfulfilled dreams or goals. Paul tells us in Phillipians 4:19 (NLT) that "this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus". Once we accept Christ and begin this life long journey to follow Him, we find ourselves experiencing all of life's ups and downs along the way, some are good and some are bad. I hate to admit it, but I don't like it when I can't have everything I want from this life (there are a few things my heart desires), but I do know that I can trust God to provide me with everything that I need. Each day God places before me opportunities to grow in...

The Most Important Commandment
Posted by:  pieceofclay   (Posted: 03/18/2009 11:56am)
One of the religious leaders, and experts in religious law, asked Jesus, "Teacher which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, " 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment." Jesus could have stopped right here with His answer but He didn't and went on and added a second commandment saying: "A second is equally important; 'Love all your neighbors as yourself.' All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:36-40 NLT) As I read this passage this morning I am reminded of its tremendous significance. Jesus' last statement in the passage says it all "All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments." It reveals to me that I must love the Lord my God above all things, first and foremost, nothing is to come before the love I have for my Lord, my God, and my Savior. I am to love Him with everything that I am, and everything that exists in me... all my heart, all my...

I Asked The Lord To Give Me This Child
Posted by:  pieceofclay   (Posted: 03/17/2009 9:12am)
1Samuel 1:27-28 says, "I asked the Lord to give me this child, and now he has given me my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life". It was August 1975, I had just taken my last load of clothes to my 1966 Chevelle, and my mother and father stood waiting to say goodbye. I hugged my dear Mother and told her that I loved her, she responded with an "I love you and be careful". I kissed her on the cheek and as she released me from one of those precious hugs that only a mother can have for a son, I thought quietly to myself, "Gee, Mom I am eighteen, I am a man now, I can take care of myself". I then turned to my Dad. Dad had been unusually quiet the entire morning, which was definitely not his nature. He was a truck driver and a tough as nails type of guy who rarely showed any kind of emotion. As I hugged him he began to cry, which was about as rare as receiving a hug from my Dad. This was something I did not...

Is God Even Listening???
Posted by:  pieceofclay   (Posted: 03/17/2009 9:09am)
Several years ago I found myself facing what I thought to be the most significant crisis of my life. Hoping to find some answers I confided in a few close business associates (many of which were followers of Christ) and my mentor, my former Pastor. Each one extended to me the benefit of their many years of experience in dealing with such matters. As sharp and intelligent as they were, I couldn't get any sense of peace from the advice that they offered. One day after a late night and an earlier than normal wake-up, I decided to go home for lunch in hopes of catching one of those much revered power naps. I was exhausted, frustrated, discouraged, and I was mad. I felt all alone. I couldn't get a sense of direction from my associates or my mentor. I felt that even God didn't seem to be the least bit interested in helping me through this. As the prayers poured from my mouth they seemed only to fall to the floor in front of me. I asked myself, "Is God even listening?". As I paced impatiently through the house I continued to try to pray out of desperation, hoping...

Marriage overboard to level the playing field?
Posted by:  redeemed4ever   (Posted: 03/16/2009 10:30pm)
http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1885190,00.html Above is the link to a Time magazine article explaining a subversive tactic taken by two Pepperdine University law professors who want to take marriage completely out of our culture, replacing the institution ordained of God with "civil unions" available to all, regardless of the gender of the partners. They try to pacify the "religious" by saying that they would of course be free to go to churches and have their civil unions "blessed." How expansive, how generous of them to crash the wedding, smash the wedding cake, and offer us the crumbs! In their sick, "politically progressive" minds, they think we'll swallow this. As the family goes, so goes the nation. It is time for us to act. Now. Not tomorrow. Today. Let us pray. Then find the names and addresses of your legislators, and write to them. Start petitions. And pray some more. "If my people, which are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked way, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins, and heal their land."...

You shall know them by;
Posted by:  lamar   (Posted: 03/15/2009 1:52pm)
Have you ever known people who claim to be Christians but their behavior told you otherwise? I'm not referring to habits I'm talking about attitudes towards other people. The Word warns us of such people, you shall know them by the fruit they bare. Fruit covers a wide variety of things such as attitude, generiousity, humility, kindness, pureness, and the list goes on actually far to many to mention here but I think you get the idea. We all probaly know people who's attitudes repel other Christians and unbelievers as well. I often wonder if they are even aware of their replusive behavior. It seems that the only time they even come close to acting like a real Christian is when they attend Church everywhere else they are just their old nasty seleves. Do you think they know that God knows who they really are? If they do why don't they at least try to do something about it, one would think they would. The Word also tells us about demon possesion, could it be that, that is what is wrong with them? What does one do about such a person? It can often be difficult to avoid them especially if...

Test
Posted by:  filo0013   (Posted: 03/15/2009 11:49am)
Test what spirits or angels say before you believe them 1John 4:1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world. Commentary: Two other excellent tests to see whether or not a message from a spirit comes from God or from the evil one are found in Deuteronomy and Isaiah. "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living? To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn." (Isa. 8:19, 20) "If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous...

Is Tithing Biblical?
Posted by:  eternalflame   (Posted: 03/13/2009 7:10am)
I have been recently conflicted in my spirit about wether or not tithing is biblical or not. I know most of youwill probably say that I am wrong if I said that giving a tithe of 10 percent is what you are supposed to do. But what I may have found out may raise some eybrows. Yes quote Malachi 3 all you want. In fact, lets start there. Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts. Mal 3:8-11 KJV From what I...

Catching the wind
Posted by:  aliveintheword   (Posted: 03/12/2009 12:04pm)
Several years ago, my elder son and I had a sailboat (2 actually) that we sailed on the Chesapeake Bay. What wonderful times we had together! We couldn't see the wind, of course. But we learned (by trial and error) how to harness it by watching the sails. Sometimnes, the winds we light. At such times, we had to work hard to leartn to use the force of even a light wind to get where we wanted to go. And often, we had to alter course, zig zag, to get from here to there. And in light winds, well, you couldn't hurry to get there. Other times, in a heavier wind, we could zip right along, rail in the water. Jimmy Buffet's "Attitudes & Lattitudes" would blare from the boom box. Sails full, smiles and laughter abounded. We quickly learned you CAN'T sail directly into the face of the wind. And always, the wind dictated how we would sail. "the wind of God blew over the water." (GE 1:2 NSRV) The wind, of course, is the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. The Spirit was there at the beginning. "The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but...

Have You Noticed?
Posted by:  truthnluv   (Posted: 03/10/2009 6:31pm)
Many years ago, people checked things out. But, still a lot of things were taken at face value. We just believed what we read, heard or were told. In this day and time, children are being taught, there are no absolutes, whatever is right for you. Outrages claims can be found everywhere. Things are changing rapidly, but many do not see it. Have you noticed that individuals are no longer the norm? Now it is all for the common good, the team, your group and the global family. Work places no longer need (person)nel, they need human resources. Most schools no longer teach academics, they modify a childs way of thinking, from God view to world view. People are no longer customers, they are consumers. Instead of foot prints in the sand, the foot print is carbon. Have you notice? In history, the temperature of the earth cools and warms. At one point, "the earth was supposed to freeze", now global warming is the scare. Green means more money out of our pockets and into someone elses. Have you noticed overpopulation? Please open your eyes, God created this earth to be inhabited. Genesis 1: 27-28, So God created man in...

So I Think I am Clever?
Posted by:  monisola   (Posted: 03/10/2009 9:18am)
So I think I am clever? I sit in a taxi with a stranger at the wheel And trust that he will To my destination take me safely I walk into a restaurant. Don't know anyone but Trust that the food will not kill me I board a great big plane. Cannot even see the Pilot. Just a voice Yet to ‘The Voice' and his co-pilot I trust my life forty thousand feet in the sky! A cheque is given me with a mere man's signature on it And off I go to the bank smiling happily trustingly For sure, in my hands will some good money be shortly Ha! How clever am I really? To feel justified to second guess a Mighty God To distrust the One who created ALL things. To lack confidence in the One who can hold all the Waters of the worlds in the cup of His Hands. Yet in a mere man I trust completely I see it quite clearly now, I really cannot be that clever, can I? If, in the One who Gave breath to the taxi driver Taught the Chef to cook Keeps the plane in the skies Gave the mere...

Frog in the Kettle
Posted by:  angelita   (Posted: 03/10/2009 8:37am)
This may sound really simple, but I wanted to do something my little ones could understand and learn from. If you have young kids this may be helpful teaching them about doing what is right when they have problems. Have you ever tasted frog legs? I haven't but I have been told they taste like chicken. I learned a few interesting facts about frogs the other day when I was teaching my kids about different animals. If I filled a kettle with water and placed a frog in it and turned on the heat would it be able to get out? Of course it could but the frog would choose to stay there. Because it is cold blooded it can adapt to the tempeture around it and so the frog would stay there unaware of the danger and would slowly cook until it was dead.( or as my daughter pointed out, until it croaked, she is a funny child) Did you know that we humans can be just as foolish. Have you ever lied or taken anything that wasn't yours. Lying and stealing is similar to the frog sitting in the kettle of hot water. We talk ourselves into believing...

Destiny awaits: A short story
Posted by:  luckyone   (Posted: 03/10/2009 7:27am)
He woke up drenched in sweat. That dream...again. Why Lord? He quietly got out of bed knowing that the last seven nights were proof that he would not get back to sleep. He went to the kitchen to make coffee and tried to clear his mind. He saw the list for packing on the kitchen table. He loved his wife; she was always great for keeping the family organized. The u-haul was packed. He would be leaving the parsonage soon. His heart ached at the prospect of moving on. He loved his church. The people there were so giving and they were heroes of the faith. Yes, the church was small, but that was not the problem. Their faith was excessively strong. He felt like he was being ministered to more than he was actually ministering. Every illustration of text that he gave from the pulpit was followed by two more that were better from the congregation. The people did not seek out his prayers. They were great prayer warriors for each other. His were the prayers of an outsider; he had only been there for 18 months. If he could have only reached one lost person here...He hears that...
