The Lord's Walking Billboards
Last week Gracie and I were chatting away again in the CB chatroom, per our usual weekday morning routine, when we started musing upon all the "religious advertisement" that seems to be happening at a lot of churches today - regardless of the denomination.
You know what I mean, c'mon, don't act like you don't. You've seen it. You drive past a big church and there's a big sign advertising a "spectacular display of God's glorious works and wonders".
But, let me ask you this: aren't we all supposed to be walking billboards for the Lord?
I've heard that a reporter once asked Gandhi when he would convert to Christianity. Supposedly Gandhi replied, "I'll convert when all the Christians start acting Christian."
Advertisement.
I started to think - what do I advertise for the Lord?
I am a woman of God. So, I looked in Proverbs 31 to see what my advertisement on my billboard should display. I mean, after all, King Solomon was given the most wisdom of any man on earth. He would know, right?
Proverbs 31 tells me that a woman of God has the following characteristics:
Virtue. Proverbs 31:10
Faithfulness. Proverbs 31:11
Reverence. Proverbs 31:12
Goodness. Proverbs 31:12
Willing Worker. Proverbs 31:13
Good Manager. Proverbs 31:14,15
Industrious. Proverbs 31:16
Strength. Proverbs 31:17
Endurance. Proverbs 31:18
Well Rounded. Proverbs 31:19
Charitable. Proverbs 31:20
Provider. Proverbs 31:21
Well Dressed. Proverbs 31:22
Wife of a Good Husband. Proverbs 31:23
Good Business Woman. Proverbs 31:24
Honorable. Proverbs 31:25
Wise. Proverbs 31:26a
Kind. Proverbs 31:26b
Good Mother. Proverbs 31:27a
Busy. Proverbs 31:27b
Praiseworthy. Proverbs 31:28
Attains or Excels. Proverbs 31:29
Fear of the Lord. Proverbs 31:30
Fruit bearing. Proverbs 31:31
Wow.
As I start to appraise my advertisement, I know that I have some work to do. But I remember that I am promised that I can do ALL things through Christ Who strengthens me!
Let's not let our church buildings try to advertise what they cannot.
We, His children, are God's Holy Church, called to His service, prepared by His Hands to spread His Good News.
Father God, I pray that You go before me all my days, setting straight my path and allowing my billboard to show the world how GREAT YOU ARE!
Won't you join me today in being the Lord's Billboard?

In my ladies Bible study we will be doing the Proverbs 31 woman soon. Do you mind if I share this with the ladies? It is an excellent example of a Christian woman, the one most find a very intimidating woman.

If I'm gonna be a billboard, I want to be one of those new bright l.e.d. ones.

God does not need to perform spectacular signs and wonders today -- WE ARE His signs and wonders and we should act like it.

Don't I envy your billboards. The only billboards I am surrounded by are advertisements of the world but don't worry sister I get your point. I am glad to say when I do witness at my place of employment none of my co-workers chuckle or call me a hypocrite. When they see me witnessing even my enemies who have called me every name in the book, the only good thing they can say about me is yeah hes a true Christian! I just don't believe there can be a better compliment than that  .
P.S. My place of employment is in the heart of Times Square. The building I work in hardly anyone stays for long before they move on, so before they leave they get witnessed to. And every time I go to the garage to threw out the garbage I always run into lots of employees that are throwing out there trash from neighboring stores so I get my opportunity to give them a chick track before they leave.
God is good!
