Are you willing to die for the Word? |
 |

One of my close friends blessed me with a copy of Foxe's Book of Martyrs All the true stories in there are tear jerkers and very convicting. I always used to wonder, would I stand up for the True Word of God even if it meant death? Am I willing to stand on this solid rock althought people hate me. Am I willing to live for Christ, follow the Bible and say that that is the ONLY truth and die because of that. I always would think... only if it comes to that.
But somethings changed. I read the Word now and I am like "Wow, I could die for this!" But that is because I want to seee truth, I want to see the pure milk of the Word preach. I want to see the Bible respected and loved and held high and we shouldn't want to change anything in it because of our respect for it. I want to see us Loving God so much that we could die for Him. And He is the Word!
John 1:1-4:
[1]In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2]The same was in the beginning with God. [3]All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [4]In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
So many of the most influentual Christians in the past were burned and tortured because they stood on truth and did not waver from it just because times were changing and people were changing. God's Word is forever. They would NOT deny their Savior.
The Apostle Andrew said this on his way to be crucified for his beliefs:
Walter Milne said when being asked to recant everything that he believed and lived for:
When he was brought to up to be executed he said this:
This men stood up for the Word. They died so we can have the pure true Word of God. They fought against churches who were twisting Scriptures of baptism and works and faith. They translated the Word of God into English. They wanted the world to be able to read for themselves the truth. They respected and cared and loved the Word of God and wanted to see the truth shine forth.
Rawlins White was another great seeker of truth. His father educated him by making him read the Bible to him every night. He loved the Scriptures so much that he gave up fishing for proclaiming the Word of God. He was captured by town officers under Queen Mary. A bishop lectured him to why he was being tried to this he replied:
He went to the stack and asked one of his friend to hold him accountable not to give into his flesh. He said that his flesh wanted to pull away. But his spirit didn't. He helped them pile hay around his stack and once the fire raged he let himself burn away. Rawlins White died for testifying of God's truth.
I could go on and on about the stories of these men who stood and died for truth. Are you willing? Could you die for the truth of the Word. Depsite what people say? This isn't about people pleasing this is about speaking the truth and staying true to God's Word.

Great blog, alot to think about, it makes me look at myself. I would hope I would pass the test. I like to believe "to die is gain" as Paul said, but it is scary to think about.

Have you read Voice of the Martyrs by DC Talk? it was stories about martyrs too. I read that one and it makes you think. We say "oh yea I deff would give my life to defend Jesus" but then we think about Peter and how he said he would never deny his Lord but he did three times and we wonder if someone so close with Jesus could give in, couldn't we? and doubts flow up in our minds and hearts. We cant let that happen. We need to decided today how far we are willing to go for Jesus, realizing he went beyond far for us!
Godbless Peaceoutt,
-Mueller.

You have a eye opener there!
It opened my thinking and prayer life.
With questions of , do I really put God first above all else?
Do I trust Him enough to truly die for Him?
Good blog,

Golden, this is a great blog!! It really makes me think about whether or not I'd be willing to die for God. Lately I've been thinking about this a lot. It's easy to say that I live for God and that He is first in my life, but do I really put Him first all the time? Would I be willing to give up everything to follow Him? Would I be willing to die standing up for the Word? Honestly, I don't think I'm to that point yet. Sometimes I'm so fired up for God and I think that I would do anything for Him, but most of the time I feel like a coward who is afraid to stand. I want to put God first in everything though. I want to trust Him with my entire life, enough to follow Him anywhere and do anything for Him. I may not be to that point yet, but I'm working on it. I'm praying to God that He will bring me closer to Him and give me courage and strength, and help me to trust Him.
Thanks for the awesome blog...keep it up sister!
Love ya and God bless!!
-Helena

We must keep in mind that being a martyr is not limited to physical torture and death. It also includes being ostracized for one's faith. It means being looked in mental institutions, put on psychotic drugs and given shock treatment (all happened to professing Christians in the past).
Taking a stand may involve loosing friends, family and employment. The Word says to rejoice and count it all joy if any of these things happen as a result of boldly taking a stand for God.
Things could very well get to the point, even in the good old USA where true Christians may once again be martyred for their faith. I pray I am at the front of the line if that day comes. I would much rather die for my Lord in faith than live for myself by denying Him in fear.
Thank You for the thought provoking blog.

I remember reading a book similar to the one you have. The only difference was It was more in detail not only were faithful men being killed for the faith, entire families as well. I totally forgot the name of the book but will never forget the stories, especially about how a pregnant christian woman was tortured first and when she would not renounce Christ before she died they managed to kill her unborn baby first before they killed her. This took place in medieval times in England.
I just wish All Churches made this a part of bible study. So we can truly cherish what we have today and give honor to those brave families and individuals who laid down there lives for the faith! And to give honor for those same individuals and families that are still being killed for the gospel today in our present time.
Good Blog Sam.

Golden,I think this is something every Christian should ponder on.I remember when I took a stand to live for Jesus,I was challenged by my pastor to take a stand to die for Him as well.It made me think a lot.Do i really love Him more than myself and enough to die for Him? I took a decision then and there that I was willing to both live and die for Him.As Rev:12/11 says-they overcame him by the blood,by the Word of their testimony and BY NOT LOVING THIER LIVES UNTO DEATH.
