Has The Success Of 'The Bible' Cable TV Program Affected Your Local Church?

abelajohnb posted:

With the recent success of The History Channel's cable tv series 'The Bible' it had me wondering lately if all that tv success has resulted in any actual growth in the places of worship throughout the United States. It has been reported that more than 11 million people watched each episode. That is a lot of people, until one stops to consider that there are over 225 million Christians in the USA. Sure, that would make up around 25% of the Christian's but I am going to guess that a moderate percentage of those 11 million people were not Christians. Let's just call it 20% of the viewers were Christians, for the sake of.Now there is no doubt that an unfortunately large percentage of those within the US that call themselves Christians, are what we have for nearly a decade now called out of church christians, and entire churches have been...

Blogging Tips - The Art Of Storytelling

abelajohnb posted:

In my ongoing blog series on tips to be a better blogger I have typically tried to approach the issue from a technical perspective. Using tools and techniques and services to help you learn ways to achieve higher levels of viewership.Today I would like to share what I believe is one of the most power, one of the most important, aspects of blogging. The art of telling a story.I truly believe that the most impactful type of blogs are story telling style bogs those blogs that portray a point by telling a story.Take for example the following blogs, which have spoken to me:Snakes and Sin I have nothing to teach you Transfigured by the Word"John Steinbeck"If a story is not about the hearer he will not listen. And here I make a rule a great and interesting story is not about everyone or it will not last.It is not always...

A Birthday Celebration

abelajohnb posted:

Greetings Friends,This week the ChristianBlog.Com website is celebrating its 7th years of being online. It was way back on December 11th 2005 that work began on what has now become the worlds largest Christianbased blog publishing website. I had owned the domain name (christianblog.com) for a few years and had not done a thing with it. For reasons unknown, in early December of 2005 I felt the Holy Spirit uttering to me that it was time to start things. Those early days felt like pure chaos each and every day. To this day that has not changed. Only now there is a mixture of random chaos mixed in with amazing stories, powerful testimonies, untold blessings, relationships being formed around the world, and random acts of kindness between Christians that will probably never meet each other. There are very few things in this world that really make me go wow anymore, but at...

Jews, Muslims And Christians Unite Together To Stand Up For Circumcision

abelajohnb posted:

It is not every day that the world sees the Muslims Jews and Christians uniting together. A recent decision in Germany to criminalize circumcision has resulted in just such a unification. This article is not to argue the legal reasons that Germany has made it illegal, nor is it about whether it causes pain, nor whether about it is inhuman rather I want to take this opportunity to discuss the issue of circumcision from a Biblical perspective.I am a Christian and specifically I am messianic. I have studied both Judaism and Islam for over two decades, however I will refrain from including text from exobiblical text, the Talmud or the Qur'an. I will specifically address this issue from the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. There are over 2.8 billion people in the world that make up the Christian, Islamic, and Jewish faiths. That is over onethird of the people...

abelajohnb posted:

I suppose we Christians can put this one under the duh category, but we all have to accept that the other 6 billion people of the world do not actually take the Bible for what is says.A news story that has become a hottopic today is that some archeologists from Tel Aviv University (TAU) announced that they found what they are calling the “Samson seal”, a seal used to well, seal letters and such. It was found at Tel BethShemesh which has been a Biblical archaeological hotspot for some time.As the story goes, Samson is out walking along when an Asiatic lion jumps out to have some dinner. Samon being the mighty brute that he is, rips apart the hungry lion. This is one of those famous Old Testament one line stories that we all love to learn and share. It goes like this:Professor Bunimovitz, from the TAU, had this to...

Seeing The Light Through The Fog

abelajohnb posted:

One of the truly great blessings of living in the middle of the Redwood forest of Northern California is the pure beauty of creation. To have the honor of standing in the midst of a forest that is filled with trees that have seen over 200 generations of humans is awe inspiring. To know that trees that are but an inch tall now will be a living giant two millenniums from now is something my human brain strains to even be able to envision. Yet it is so.There are many great men who have said these things so much better than I will ever be able too.Men such as John Muir, who wrote these words: In God's wildness lies the hope of the world the great fresh unblighted, unredeemed wilderness. The galling harness of civilization drops off, and wounds heal ere we are aware. Men such as the son of...

A Day In The Redwoods

abelajohnb posted:

The nicest weather of the year is upon us here in the Redwoods of Northern California. There are a few weeks out of every year when the weather just turns magical and pretty much everybody, whether they like going outside or not, go outside for the few weeks and just enjoy the weather.I thought some of you might be interested in seeing what it is that I do when I am not stuck in front of a computer all day long. What I do when I get the chance is hike and a lot. My hiking style is unlike 99% of hikers in that I carry very little gear with me. The average hiker has a backpack that is between 15 and 35 pounds of gear. I usually go hiking with anywhere between three pounds of gear and six pounds of gear. It has its risks but it also has...

abelajohnb posted:

The famous Otzi the Iceman is now being credited as providing modern day scientist with the oldest known blood sample from a human being. They believe that Otzi lived around 5,300 years ago in the mountains of modern day Austria and Italy. He is on display at the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Italy and was found back in September of 1991.A team of scientists believe that Otzi was killed by an arrow in the back. The image attached to this blog is an atomic force microscope (ACM) image of one of Otzi's ancient red blood cells drawn out of some fibrin of the arrow wound. Here is a short video talking about this new blood sample: What I find most interesting about this whole story is that Otzi was carrying with him natural herbs that they believe were for purpose of medication. In my late teens I spent about...

The Rewards Of Being A Christian Blogger!

abelajohnb posted:

A few days ago I had the honor of writing the second newsletter for ChristianBlog.Com and the main highlight of the newsletter was talking about how awesome it is to be a Christian Blogger right now. While I was writing the newsletter I found myself stopping and pondering on what is, without a doubt, the most amazing aspect of running the worlds largest Christian blogging website: hearing from people who visit and use the website about how it has touched their lives.Sometimes the letters I receive just stop me from whatever it is I am doing and makes me realize that everything I have done, it has been for a purpose. The motto of the ChristianBlog.Com website is a simple yet profoundly powerful one: ChristianBlog.Com is a place to be blessed and to bless others!Sometimes in the day to day mundane of working, I forget that working is still ministry, and ministry...

10 Indoor Plants To Help Clean Your House

abelajohnb posted:

I like house plants I am just going to admit it... I like them. I have all different kinds of indoor plants. Some over the last few years have died but for the most part I have a very good record going for keeping them alive.I like them because they add a feeling of life to my house. I also like them because they help keep the air in my house fresher. They suck of co2 and replace it with oxygen (no secrete there, eh) and thus I get nice fresh oxygen inside of my house which is rather helpful for the winter season when I loath opening up my windows to let in fresh (and freezing) cold air.Awhile back I came across the book How to Grow Fresh Air: 50 House Plants that Purify Your Home or Office which was apparently written by some Doctor Scientist dude who worked...
