I Feel Your Pain, And Thank God I Can

blessings2you posted:

A certain former President of these United States once famously said in response to the poverty and prejudice he saw among so many people; I feel your pain. From that one statement, Bill Clinton became the sweetheart of the downtrodden and especially those of color. The question is how on earth could he even know, let alone feel their pain? He lived in the White House and was light years removed from the common person and the struggles they went through daily. Many years ago I pleaded with God to work with me so that I could truly understand the heartache, pain, confusion, anger and hopelessness people felt. I understood at the time that I had lived a life which kept me at arms length from the genuine needs REAL people have and must deal with on a daily basis. My hearts desire was to experientially understand the battles common people...

A Very Troubling Story Out Of Florida

blessings2you posted:

While most of the United States is looking toward Miami for football reasons today and NASCAR next Sunday; my heart looks at a little known story from that area that will surely get NO attention from the media. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,585031,00.html?test=latestnewsOh my heart aches for the shallowness of this nation. What on earth is so important about football that it demands the entire nation stop what it is doing to watch not only the game, but the commercials and pregame festivities? What about those whose mission in this life is far bigger than scoring touchdowns? When all is said and done and everyone stands before the Almighty God to receive judgment for what they did in this life, who do YOU think will receive more grace and mercythe two street preachers who gave their life ministering to a worthless thug or a hundred guys (many of them thugs) who play a game in...

Running To Serve Not Running Away

blessings2you posted:

When all of the fluff is blown away and the stark reality of a situation is exposed, that is when we are able to find out what a person is really made of and what kind of a person they really are. It has been said that cracks show up under pressure, and that is especially true when it comes to those virtues which separate the great believers from those simply playing along. One can only imagine the shock those recruited by Jesus to be His disciples when the reality of what Jesus wanted of them was shown. Once those men found out that Jesus demanded such things as obedience, honesty and FAITH; they were thrust into situations where they could not hide in the shadows or pretend to be someone they werent. It is very easy to simply be a part of a large congregation, attend worship services weekly, make offerings...

Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely

blessings2you posted:

Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. The statement was made by Lord Acton, a British historian who lived around 1900. The basic understanding of this phrase is that a persons sense of morality lessens as his or her power increases. In other words, the more powerful a person becomes, the more they feel free to do whatever they want. Absolute power is a far more dangerous weapon than a nuclear bomb. Absolute power is the breeding ground for absolute corruption along with every crime imaginable. When a group grants its founder or president absolute power, that group has just signed its death sentence. History is filled with innumerable examples of people starting out with pure motives at the bottom of the hill, but by the time they reach the top they are thoroughly corrupted. Power has an awful way of ruining people, just like its companionswealth and fame. Together,...

The Love Of God As Manifested In The Psalms

blessings2you posted:

As the poets say; love is a many splendid things. This is true not only of the love a man has for a woman and a woman for a man, but love in general. There is nothing in this life any greater or more important than love, and specifically the love of God.From a tender heart springs wonderful shoots that grow into mighty trees producing delectable fruit. By our fruit we are known, but to produce fruit that is appealing and bursting with flavor, there must first be a heart tenderized by the love of God. The greatest love story ever told was of course how God so loved the world that He gave us His only son. The second greatest love story ever told was how Jesus so loved us that he willingly gave his life on our behalf. Unknown to many, perhaps the next great love story (other...

A Matter Of Integrity

blessings2you posted:

Do you know what the word integrity means? Very simply, the word meansthe quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards. Obviously the opposite of integrity is compromise. We live in a world that talks about integrity out of one side of its mouth while practicing compromise at every turn. When thinking about integrity, there are qualities about it such as honesty, truthfulness, honor, reliability and uprightness which make it something to be ardently desired and strived for. While the world spends all of its time in search of riches, glory and power; we should devote ourselves to being people of our word, people who can be trusted to do what they commit themselves to do and people who think more about doing what is honest than what is selfserving.Living out in the country we learned many years ago that the vast majority of independent contractors...

Thank You For Your Prayers Come Wednesday

blessings2you posted:

I wanted to take this time to ask this illustrious body of believers to pray for me yet one more time. On Wednesday, February 3rd at about 10:00 am (Central Time) I will undergo what I am praying will be the last cardiac procedure for awhile. Unlike all the ones I have before (all 21 of them), this is not a cardiac catheterization per se, but something called an ablation. All I have been told is that the doctor will insert a catheter through the VEIN in my groin and in due time it will end up in the upper right chamber of my heart. Once in there, he will more or less burn away whatever has appeared which has produced the fluttering I have experienced the past three months. As wild as all this sounds, it actually has a 98% success rate and a similar rate of the problem never...

The Legend Of Johnny B.

blessings2you posted:

On Christmas Eve we let our dog Sheba out and much to our surprise there was another dog in the yard. It was very cold outside and so was the dog. He was obviously a young dog but was skin and bones. We introduced him to the empty doghouse in the barn, gave him food and water and some old blankets to sleep on. For the next five weeks this American bulldog pup spent his nights in the doghouse, ate a hearty breakfast and then took off each day to hunt squirrels, rabbits and whatever else he chose. Every evening he returned to a bowl of dog food and a warm doghouse. Early on I named this dog Johnny B. for some reason. I guess because every day he was Johnny B gone. Recently we decided to name him Rudy since he showed up on Christmas Eve.Today I went to...

What Motivates You--an Introduction

blessings2you posted:

Most experts advocate that people are motivated by either pain or pleasure. Pain motivates them to run AWAY and pleasure motivates them to move TOWARD. This is true, and these two things certainly would make any list of great motivators, but there are plenty of other things that cause people to get up in the morning, work their job, spend money and engage in various activities in the course of a day.By no means is this a complete list, but here are some of the major motivators in life. Over the coming days (and weeks if need be), I will try and provide more details on these eight things. 1.Fear2.Guilt3.Anger4.Pain5.Desire 6.Greed7.Adoration8.LoveWhat finally helps those of us who at one time in our lives smoked, to kick the habit? For some it was guilt, for others it was fear and for some it was simply the desire to cease engaging in...

Spending Some Quality Time Curled Up At The Masters Feet

blessings2you posted:

I was thinking the other day about dogs, us and God. Some people only consider a dog good if it can hunt, guard or lead the blind or disabled. But, the vast majority of dogs (and to a certain extent cats also) are nothing more than companions. In fact, these creatures which were once called pets and now called companion animals. Our dog Sheba is a classic example of a companion animal. She basically does nothing to earn her keep except love us and be there for us. The truth of the matter is that she is around here to provide company, companionship and unconditional love. If she does anything else, that is just a bonus.Shebas day (on the days my wife works) consists of getting up at 4:30, going outside for 2 minutes and then coming back in to jump in the van to take mom to work. As far...
