Listening To God... Or Not

blest posted:

I was reading I Kings today and was reminded of an event in my life many years ago. I have terrible vision in one eye. The cause of this is astigmatism, and not just your garden variety astigmatism. Astigmatism is an irregularly shaped eye (flat spot, peak, valley, etc.). Well, I have 3 flat spots on my right eye, with the end result being my vision is 20/400something in that eye. Back when I could finally make the switch from glasses to contacts, there was no such thing as soft contacts. There wasn’t even any such thing as gas permeable rigid lenses, which I wear today because soft ones cannot correct for the triple astigmatism in my bad eye (and no, neither can Lasik, unfortunately). Back then hard contacts were the only contacts. These were very hard on your eyes and you could not leave them in overnight because they...

Never Underestimate What God Can Do Or How He Does It

blest posted:

I was reading a blog by @kreynolds, in which she described a time she had strep throat, and in which she also mentioned a blog by @asifbyfire regarding a time when his son had strep throat. Asifbyfire’s blog was about a father’s love for and protection of, his child; K’s blog was about how she cried out to God when no one else could hear her. My strep throat story has a little different take. You’ve heard of the daily Bible verse? Perhaps this is the week of strep throat stories! But first I must tell you a bit about my father. During my growing up years, I was extremely close to my father. My father was a doctor, and doctor’s kids do NOT get sick. Period. Other people’s kids get sick. Doctor’s kids do not get sick. And they absolutely do not go to the hospital! Once while on vacation...

In Praying For My Friend, I Found My Prayer Closet

blest posted:

People are different. Have you ever had to have an MRI? You know, they put you inside that confining space of a tube, and leave you in this tunnel for what seems like hours? You are all closed in and the knocking and clanging in different decibels is not drowned out by the ear plugs they’ve given you? Yes, well, I fall asleep. Yup, every MRI I’ve had, I have fallen asleep. Of course it might help that I always schedule them for after work, when I am already tired. And I never open my eyes I always start out praying, but end up falling asleep. I was actually surprised to learn that it is not dark in there. I didn’t know that because my eyes are always closed.I am not most people. My mother is claustrophobic. When she had to have an MRI many years ago, in the late...

Sometimes He Parts The Waters; Sometimes He Gently Prods A Friend

blest posted:

I was raised in a loving Christian home. We were always active in our church and to this day, although I live 1000 miles away from that church, I remain in contact with that church, am close to people who still attend that church, and I am on their prayer chain. I have loved God for as long as I can remember. There was never a time that I doubted His existence. There were of course times I felt closer to Him than at other times, but I never doubted His existence. I read the Bible, and had read it from beginning to end several times by the time I’d graduated from college. When I was in high school, our church youth group had a ‘Bibleathon’, where we read the Bible out loud continuously for 48 hours to raise money for some of us to go to a Worldwide Christian...

Of Blue Jeans And Chariots

blest posted:

It was a glorious summer morning a day off when I could sleep until after the sun was up! We had moved into the first floor bedroom so that our aging dog, who cant climb steps anymore, could sleep in the bedroom. I arose and looked out the window to see my husband, B2Y, working on the fence to the horse pasture. He was wearing blue jeans, a white Tshirt and a light colored baseball cap. I smiled, thinking how he loves early mornings, and I, who have to get up for work at 4am, do NOT appreciate early mornings. I was going to start my day off in a lazy way, certainly not working outside the way my husband was already doing! Looking forward to my morning coffee, I walked out of the bedroom... and froze. There, sitting at his desk, was my husband. Wha? Who? WHOS THAT GUY IN...

Yellow Tags And Other Prayer Tricks

blest posted:

I got an email from ptl2008 a bit ago in which she asked me to add someone to my yellow tag. That made me chuckle. You see, I have sticky notes posted all over the wall above my desk, with peoples names on them, to remind me to pray for them. What made me chuckle was that, not only did ptl know that I had those sticky notes up there, she knew that HERS was yellow! Apparently I must have mentioned that to her at some time. Up there along with the sticky notes is a calendar for putting particular things on particular days surgeries, tests, whatever someone may be doing or having done on a particular day, to remind me to specifically pray for that thing on that day. For example, on June 11, there is a note that says Kmamm. Now, along with the (yes, PINK, K) sticky...

All My Springs Are In Thee!

blest posted:

While reading in Psalms a couple weeks ago, a part of a verse leapt out at me. I know Ive read this verse a hundred times, but this time, it just jumped off the page. All my springs are in thee! Since then, I have brought this verse to remembrance numerous times: a difficult day at work, All my springs are in thee! Praying for a loved one, All my springs are in thee! Rejoicing over good news, All my springs are in thee! It is such a wonderful reminder that no matter what, All my springs are in thee!I know full well that 1 Peter 1:20 says, Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation I am not writing this as a word study. I just find it to be a fun verse with different nuances in English. The word translated springs in...

What You Can Learn From A Chicken

blest posted:

I had to put the chickens in for the night. B2Y was out of town; the chores were up to me. It was dusk; time to put the chickens up for the night. We have lost a number of chickens to resourceful predators. Our last casualty was sweet Chicken Little, who met her fate when a hungry raccoon somehow got into the chicken run, then pushed a heavy rock out of the way so he could open the door into the chicken house. Since then my husband has devised what we hope is a raccoonproof way to lock the chickens in for the night. In the morning we let the chickens out into the run which is totally enclosed. But at night when predators are lurking about, we have them locked in the chicken house where they roost and occasionally (when the mood strikes them) lay an egg or two....

When I Was A Child I Spake As A Child (a Little Bio)

blest posted:

When I was a child I spake as a child (a little bio).I remember my parents tucking us into bed each night, each of us four kids saying our prayers. They went something like Please take care of Mommy and Daddy and ... name all family members and friends and please bring the soldiers safely home from Vietnam. We always said grace before eating dinner and we always held hands while saying grace; well, actually we sang grace before dinner. The song we usually sang went, Evening is here, the board is spread; thanks be to God who gives us bread. Praise God for bread. Then we would squeeze the hand of the person on either side. When we had an elderly woman living with us for some time because she had nowhere else to go, it took her awhile to get the hang of singing grace. But when she...
