The Road That We Must Travel

kreynolds posted:

A few times my husband and I have had the opportunity to visit the B2Y Ranch which is the home our dear friends, @Blessings2you and @Blest. They live more than 500 miles away from us so we do not get to visit The B2Ys very often but when we do, we always spend a few wonderful days there, enjoying their wonderful hospitality and fellowship. We have to take several different roads to get to the B2Y Ranch. For the first part of the journey, we zip along at 70 mph (if my husband is driving) on the interstate. Because this is a major road that is fairly welltraveled, you generally can find some place to get gas or get a bite to eat every few miles or so. There are even some rest areas along the way for weary travelers to stop and take a break. Some of these are...

More Than Just A Grumble

kreynolds posted:

But there may come a day when you can do that no longer. Then there will be no you left to criticise the mood, nor even to enjoy it, but just the grumble itself going on forever like a machine.C.S. Lewis, The Great DivorceIn the book The Great Divorce, by C. S. Lewis, the main character encounters a woman who though she was on the outskirts of Heaven didn't notice it. She was too busy grumbling and complaining about everything and everyone and if we are not careful, we can fall into that same trap.I'm am not proud to admit that I have fallen into that trap time and time again. Something is not quite the way I want it to be. Someone is doing something that annoys me. There are too many distractions and I can't concentrate (this has become very bad after my stroke for I am very...

Going The Extra Mile

kreynolds posted:

The post office was rather busy. There was only one clerk at the counter and so the line was gradually growing longer. An elderly woman stood in line with an unsealed US Priority Mail box. The particular box she had was not a selfsealing box. As she attempted to seal one end of the box, the other end wouldn't stay put and she had no tape. Sigh...Suddenly the postal worker spoke up and said, Wait Ma'am. Don't seal the box. I will help you in just a moment. Relieved, the woman stopped fumbling with the box and waited her turn. When she reached the counter, she began to ask for some tape but the postal worker shook her head. Let me see what you are trying to ship, please. When the woman complied the postal worker said, I thought so. Just one moment while I get you another box.She returned with a...

The Long Journey

kreynolds posted:

It has been my custom, when hitting a personal blog milestone here at CB, to write a blog reflecting on how God has used this site to bless me. Today is no different. While there have been a number of members who have read some of the things I am about to write before, others will read them for the very first time which is exactly why I am writing this blog.I believe that we all have a story to share. Our story. Whether the person realizes it or not, their story, both Christian and nonChristians is actually a part of a much larger story. God's Story. It is our responsibility as Christians to share God's story with the world, not just the story of salvation (though that is the best and most important part) but our personal story. The story of God and Me.In July 2007, my son said...

A Lasting Foundation

kreynolds posted:

Today was a lovely warm spring day. In fact, after an extremely wet and cool spring, this was the nicest day yet. My husband and I had just come from watching an outdoor performance of Romeo and Juliet which our son had been in. After that we enjoyed some frozen yogurt with our son, daughterinlaw and my mom before heading home. When we got home, I opened up all the windows. It was warm but there was a nice cool breeze and the house quickly became very comfortable. My husband and I were relaxing in our family room, chatting about the day when suddenly our conversation was interrupted by the scream of sirens.Snapping on the television, we learned that a severe thunderstorm with 5060 mph winds had suddenly erupted and was heading straight for us. We dashed about slamming down windows and shutting doors and managed to do so, just as...

A Father's Day Reflection

kreynolds posted:

The teacher stood before her class with displeasure on her face. While the idea had sounded good, searching magazines for colors which matched the model picture and cutting them into very tiny neat squares had been far more time consuming than what the teacher had anticipated. It was not that the students hadn't been trying to do the task. The problem was that it had been far too difficult to do within the allotted time frame. Since it was the very end of the year, more time at school to work on the project at school was a commodity not to had. However, not one to admit defeat, she sternly announced at the end of the day that anyone who did not turn in their project by the next morning would fail and be held back this year.It was an idle threat. She could not do such a thing over...

The Right Way

kreynolds posted:

The current sermon series at my church is on Psalm 23. This evening, one of my pastors preached on the following text:He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Psalm 23:3The paths of righteousness. What does that mean?Often we think that this means we do the right thing but in reality, it is the Shepherd who is leading us on the paths of righteousness and other than following Him, it has nothing to do with our behavior. The Hebrew word in this verse which is translated as righteousness is tsedeq (Strong's Hebrew 6664). I find it interesting that in English the word righteous is an adjective but tsedeq is a noun. Apparently there is more to this than meets the eye.Other versions of the Bible, such as the NIV and NLT use the phrase He leads me along right paths instead. Look at how...

kreynolds posted:

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.During my years I would encounter various types of students. , The Successful Motivated Student, The Struggling Motivated Student, The Fearful Motivated Student, The Unmotivated StudentThe Successful Motivated Student is eager to learn. This student easily understands and masters the skill or concept being taught and will race on ahead of the teacher although sometimes they must be reigned in or they will miss something very important. The Struggling Motivated Student desires to learn as well but things are difficult for them. This is the student who really demonstrates persistence. No matter how many times they get it wrong, they will come to you for reteaching over and over again and they do not give up until they master the skill or concept. The Fearful Motivated Student wants to learn but they are afraid they can't. Somewhere along the...

The Lord Who Bursts Through

kreynolds posted:

When the Philestines learned that David was now King of Israel, they quickly went on the offensive. This was the man who had defeated them time and time again and they knew they had to attempt to quickly capture him now. Warned of their coming, David did not go out to meet them. Instead, he went into the stronghold (Jerusalem) and sought God for direction. Should he fight the Philestines and if he did, would God be with him and hand them over to him? (2 Samuel 5:19 NLT)Assured by God that he should go into battle and that God would be with him, David gathered his army and went out to meet the enemy. The Israelite army was victorious, just as God had promised. Now at this point, if you were David, you would probably be strongly tempted to give yourself a pat on the back and make sure...

Courage And Sacrifice

kreynolds posted:

September 7, 1876 started out as an ordinary Thursday afternoon. In the small town of Northfield, Minnesota, acting cashier, Joseph Lee Heywood went about his daily duties. Shortly before 2:00 p.m., life suddenly was brutally interrupted by the notorious JamesYounger Gang in what later became known as The Great Northfield Bank Robbery. The name is a misnomer. It should be The Great FAILED Northfield Bank Robbery because it failed miserably. When Mr. Heywood was ordered to open the safe, he refused to do so even when a drawn knife draws blood across his throat. He declares that there is a time lock on the safe and he can't open it. While it was true that there was a time lock on the safe, it was not activated. The safe was unlocked and all they had to do... was open the door. The cash drawer contained nothing but nickels. By now, one...
