following posted:

Im A Drunken Adulterous Christian! This Statement is what is considered an oxymoron. Wikipedia defines oxymoron this way: An oxymoron (plural oxymorons, or sometimes the Greek plural oxymora) (sharply dull) is a figure of speech that combines normally contradictory terms. They appear in a range of contexts, from inadvertent errors such as extremely average, to deliberate puns like same difference, to literary oxymorons that have been carefully crafted to reveal a paradox.(2 Tim. 4:24) Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. That verse has now come full circle in our society,...

Actions Without Calling?

hischild85 posted:

I am looking for a Biblical answer to a question that came up at work today. What happens when you have people volunteering but it is either not their calling or they obviously do not have the heart for it. Even more so what if these people are being paid b/c of the lack of volunteers and those that are willing to volunteer are being left off to the side b/c others are being paid. For example most people want to be in the service on Easter so it may be hard to find people for the childrens department, so they have people being told we will pay you $50 to work on Easter Sunday or there is a woman that sits at a welcme desk throughout the entire service, every service and doesnt go to a small group either. The church in question has people that are willing to...

They Love Children But Cant Have Them

lovemercy posted:

Why does it seem like women who cant have children are the ones who would make the best Moms?I see this truth everyday. Someone I know has four children and is like a fertility machine while her younger sister is very good with kids but has none of her own. The younger woman is always standing in the gap to help her big sister out every time there is a family tragedy involving one of the kids and every time there is a special need. She hasnt delivered any of her own children but delivers her sisters kids by car every day to school and back home and as needed. While her older sister is a good Mom, the younger sister is a perfect substitute Mom and a very good one and it doesnt seem fair. Some women can get pregnant every time they try. I cant imagine the anguish someone...

Some Parallels From The Movie: The Matrix

mindequip posted:

Not long after becoming a Christian I watched the movie: The Matrix (first of the series). I never saw the rest of the series. To this day I still think about three scenes from the movie. The first is when the explanation is given that the movie scenes up to that point are in reality a computer generated virtual reality (the matrix) in which most of the human race lives. They are not aware that the perceived reality they experience is artificially manufactured. They are not aware of the greater reality in which they live. The few humans that are not trapped within the matrix battle with the computer/robot rulers of earth. The heroes are able to enter the matrix to try to rescue people as well as battle virtual enemies. I cant help but think of our world, both physical and spiritual, as being somewhat similar to this movie. Most...

hiswitness posted:

It has been said that a good hangin has saved many a bad marriage. While I would not consider it to be a reasonable answer to disharmony, I can speak with some authority on longevity in life and marriage.Today is our 59 th anniversary. While I cannot write a treatise on what it takes to be looking at our 6th decade. I would just like to ramble on a while with the thought of coming up with something useful. You be the judge. The setting is 1951 in the then little town of Colorado Springs, Co. now commonly referred to as Dr. Dobsonville. It was there where our first focus began in the First Methodist church. All of the participants, with the exception of our mothers and fathers were on spring break with the possible exception of the minister and the organ player.
The Sorrows Of The Morrow

mosesbagonza posted:

Mathew 6: 33, but let your first care be for his kingdom and his righteousness; and all these other things will be given to you in addition. 34 Then have no care for tomorrow: tomorrow will take care of itself. Take the trouble of the day as it comes. (BBE)I once read somewhere that anxiety is sin, that it is superfluity of disbelief. When I read through Mathew 6:3334, this mirage becomes tangible. Here God tells us to let tomorrow worry about itself but many a time I find myself forestalling sorrow. I import sorrows and troubles from tomorrow to today even after faithfully saying the Lords Prayer (Give me this day my DAILY bread, Mathew 6:11 and Luke: 3). Absurd, right? Surely todays bread will only take me as far as today goes. Tomorrow is not yet in the picture.Anxiety means foreseeing what may happen to us and trying...

blessings2you posted:

Sitting on the sidelines watching, listening as the entire political process in the United States has been circumvented and trampled underfoot in order to pass one bill; I honestly wish there were any other place to move to in this world than here. I am ashamed to be called an American citizen because of the behavior of those elected to represent the will of the people. The will of the people has been disregarded and said to be unimportant when it comes to reforming health care. There are many valid points in the bill that is going to pass and be signed into law no matter how loud opponents scream or how many protest marches are held against it. But, whatever good is in the final bill will be grossly overshadowed by the hidden agendas and affronts to the liberties we used to have in this nation. Whatever good may be...

Blessing Others As They Have Blessed You

kreynolds posted:

As I was reading B2Ys blog called Entitlement Mentality From A Horses Point of View, I recalled an incident which I observed nearly 20 years ago. At the time, I was working a temporary job at an inner city charity which had a job training program for single mothers. I was setting up and operating an onsite day care facility for mothers who were enrolled in the program. She arrived shortly after 8:00 a.m. that snowy Christmas Eve with her little boy in tow. Others had told her that if she enrolled in the job training program, the charity would set her up with a place to live and help her with other basic needs. Although she realized there was risk involved, she spent all the money she had on bus tickets to Minneapolis. They had ridden all night. I remember her standing hopefully on the doorstep.
blessings2you posted:

We have two horses, one who has terrible arthritis in both his front legs and one who is perfectly healthy but is basically blind. As different as these two horses are, they simply cannot survive without each other. The arthritic horse needs his buddy to keep him company for he is the kind of horse unable to live alone. The blind horse needs his buddy to know where to go and how to get back. Last winter was very tough on the arthritic horse and he spent far more time in the horse run in than out in the pasture. Due to his condition we started having to feed him more grain than before. Last fall I called the vet out to take a look at him for he was getting very thin. She told me he had to gain 50100 pounds in a hurry or he couldnt survive the...
