a stain in the carpet

Stain In The Carpet O, God where have you been all this time I know you've been by my side because you said you will never leave I've seen you presence consume a room but that was some time ago Why hasn't anything happened since that time There is something wrong because the surface is calm and nothing is stirring underneath The smoke has cleared and the power is draining. We need to fix something soon Because I don't want to live like this The people are dying out because they are not being feed I was full but now I'm hollow The time has chipped at the stone and now only a pebble remains What faith can last as a stain in the carpet? We try to hide because we are afraid of sticking out We don't want to be seen as something different Change is like a horror flick because it scares most people But I'm not afraid of being different because I know who my God is My joy, my peace, my strength comes from him And I think I've found your hiding place, the missing part of the puzzle I don't need anything except for you....

(d) The Church under the Military Government (1988-Present) During the socialist rule the country's economy declined rapidly. The decline of the economy let to social corruption in the country as people searched for ways to survive and to get ahead. The economic situation that became worse in 1980s caused a widespread mass demonstration in 1988. The demonstration was started by the university students in Yangon with a demand for the change of government. Although the military and police tried to crack down on the violence and killed more than 1,000 people, the demonstrations became widespread and even the general public joined the demonstrations. The mass demonstrations were finally crushed by the military coup in 1988. The military coup deposed the Burmese Socialist Program Party on September 18, 1988 and established a military regime called "the State Law and Order Restoration Council. The State Law and Order Restoration Council changed State Peace and Development Council in 1997.1 Under the military Government, Buddhism which is the religion of the majority Bamars, is favored and supported by the government. The government attends to propagate Buddhism throughout the country by building pagodas, and luring the hill people into Buddhism. Newspapers and television which are...

leaving one church and joining another
Posted by:  throughfaith   (Posted: 06/05/08 12:03pm)
So, several weeks ago we quit going to the church we had been going to amid ... uh, cough cough, some rumors being tossed about by ... well ... the leadership team and pastor. Had we decided to play their game and answer their questions about the rumors, we might still be going there but ... Life is too short to sit around and have people who don't know us and are ever ready to gossip about us sit in judgement of us. We won't compromise. We won't play that game. We have gone to another church a few times since then ... a church where we were members for 14 years but it is over an hour away and with gas prices what they are ... sigh ... But now we are going to start going to a new church. Frankly, we're a little scared to do so. We've been to three churches in a row with a five year pause between #2 and #3 that were just miserable. I hate to say that. They are churches after all but for our family, for us, they were miserable. We couldn't deal with the rumors and gossip and pride issues...

what will the church look like in 10 years?
Posted by:  abelajohnb   (Posted: 05/09/08 12:17am)
What will the church look like in 10 years? For each generation, what the church is today is no good. For my generation, "organized religion" is becoming more and more undesirable, and this can surely only increase for each generation after mine. As the world continues to spiral faster and faster, organized religion is doomed greater and greater without a major intervention, and thus the church itself. Personally, I am tired of Programs. I don't want any more new theologies. I don't want to be preached at with sermons that were barely relevant 30 or 100 years ago. I don't want the same old things rewrapped in a new package. Surely somebody, some pastor somewhere, can find something of value with the Great Book, and find a way to make it relevant to me, one would think? As for the generations following me, it will only get worse. They will want a real life experience of the power of God. They will want truth in action, not truth in teachings. They will want love in action, not love in sermons. They will want a move of God, not just a 'move of God' talked about. They will want the Bible...

new christians only get free t-shirts
Posted by:  yimbrad   (Posted: 05/07/08 3:24am)
There has been a serious lack of discipleship within the church. We want to lead people to Christ, bring them into our churches, but somewhere along the lines we've forgotten the most important part in investing time and raising up new believers. What usually happens in churches across America, FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS we'll welcome in new Christians, hand out free Bibles, give new youth free T-shirts and CD's, but that's really it. The church has forgotten the discipleship aspect. We are telling new Christians, welcome into the kingdom and think they can just figure out the rest themselves. Without taking them under our wing and really showing them a true foundation of faith and relationship in Christ, their fire for God will burn out. God can change them on the inside, but who will teach them how to study scripture, answer questions and dig in the Word with them. If we don't accept new Christians "as family" and be willing to disciple them, they're never going to get it. Our churches rapidly are dying and youth group attendance is dropping off after middle school, because the church isn't going to extra mile. In the same instance, missionaries can...

two wrongs don't make the reverend wright
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 05/02/08 8:10am)
Okay, if I don't vent some steam I think I may blow a gasket. I will try as hard as I can not to offend anybody, but it will be difficult. Normally I try to stay out of these situations, but the current one is flat out getting out of hand. As long as the United States of America is the land of free and the home of the brave, I have as much right to voice an opinion as anyone else. The topic at hand is the incessant, nonstop, and ever increasing rhetoric being spewed out of the mouths of various Reverends that claim to represent the "black church". I am a reverend if I so wanted to be called such a thing (which I don't), I am a white person but I never claimed to represent the "white church". Since when did we come up with such designations? Where in the Bible is there reference to "black churches" and "white churches"? Remarks made by the notorious Rev. Jeremiah Wright the other day reflect more of his true character and agenda. He made constant references to himself being the spokesman for the "black church". He keeps bringing his messages...

the epistle to the laodiceans
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 04/26/08 6:06pm)
We know that the final letter John writes in Revelation three is to the church at Laodicea. We also know that this church represents the current apostate church of the era immediately preceding the Lord's return. The seven churches mentioned in Revelation 2 and 3 were all located in Asia Minor. When Paul was at Ephesus starting in Acts 19, he spent over two years teaching and preaching Jesus Christ throughout all of Asia Minor. While imprisoned in Rome, Paul wrote a letter to one of the churches he had originally "planted" which was in small town of Colosse which was about 100 miles east of Ephesus. Within the Colossian epistle there are numerous references to other towns, chiefly Laodicea, which was a much bigger city and was a major trade center. I wish to call your attention to a verse that most people who read the epistle of Colossians never stop and think about. It is found in chapter 4 in verse 16: "Now when this epistle is read among you, see that it is read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that you likewise read the epistle from Laodicea." What is the epistle from Laodicea? We...

evangelism today is really preaching repentance
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 04/17/08 6:12pm)
Let me attempt to explain something to you. In our current situation in this country, what with the unreal mix of fear and apathy, being able to communicate to people the urgency of the times is essential. The "I'll get around to it" mentality that has defined evangelism won't work when the clock is ticking down to its final hours. Just as a football team must develop a "2 minute" drill for use when trying to score in its last possession; so we must approach our responsibility to reach out to others with the same urgency. The problem is that in the United States of America just how many people are there who have never had a chance to hear the gospel? I imagine somewhere there is someone who has never heard about Jesus, but by and large this country has been fully evangelized for years. Pure evangelism is practiced in hundreds of countries around the world where there are still people who have literally never heard about Jesus Christ. Those true missionaries who have devoted their lives to delivering the gospel to places previously never approached demand all our prayers. Basically any true evangelism in this country is limited...

are we loving the unsaved to hell?
Posted by:  youaregolden   (Posted: 03/22/08 5:46am)
This is something I have pondered a lot. The church talks a lot about love and love as the main focus. Yes I believe that we should love and care for others, but is this kind of love really edifying the unsaved? Our churches don't really preach from the Word of God anymore because they are affraid to offend someone. Is this love? Our churches have programs for each age group, giving them mushy gushy stuff to make them feel good. Is this love? Churches barely talk about how to witness and the importance of brining the Gospel to the unsaved. Is this love? We have parties and movie nights and food and everything an unsaved person could want and yet we are preaching messages that won't save. Is this love? We must preach the Word of God, we must be telling the Gospel, not mushy stuff that makes us FEEL good! We must preach Christ died. And WHY did He die? Because we are SINNERS. But no one will go out and sayt hat we are sinners because no one wants to hurt peoples feelings. We must sayt eh TRUTH in love. We must present the Gospel to the...

thank you god for all you entrusted me with!
Posted by:  moonlightdreamer   (Posted: 03/19/08 3:20am)
This past Sunday I've just realised how rich we as Christians are! Look around at church and see beyond the facades of faces - and see the wealth of restored relationships - married couples still together - children with their original parents - people praying for each other. There is a true story about the dark ages when the Moors came in and raided the European villages and cities - killing everybody - they would not attack the Christians in the churches because the Christians would just leave all their material possessions at their homes and went to pray in churches - they lost everything they owned - but were still alive because they didn't value human live above material things - they did not defend their homes! Thank You God for other value systems that You placed in us! The star breathing God created and knows all the names of each planet - yet knows our names - even the amount of hairs on our heads - how awesome are our God!...

this church that church, all are one in christ!
Posted by:  kraftykatz   (Posted: 01/31/08 11:04am)
This church that church, all are one in Christ, the doctrine of no denominations. [Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (NIV)] Several years ago, my oldest son worked at a sports camp in the summer months between college spring and fall. He became friends with a young man from Holland spending his summer here working at the same camp. Emil spent some time with us when there was a brake between groups coming in. We took him to church with us. Holland is strict Christian Reformed. He had some things to say after the service. He said that at home, in Holland no church had alters because having alters in church was not biblical. Our pastor moved around some as he spoke, not being a man to stand in one spot and read a sermon. He also said the pastor did not move or even tell a simple funny story to illustrate a point. I listened with respect to what he had to say. Then I said I was truly glad that I lived in a country where I could attend a church whose...

a call to arms--fighting for this great site
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 01/27/08 7:14pm)
I have been on this site long enough to see trends and I see one developing that pretty much mirrors what is happening in countless true Christian churches around the country. I have had lengthy discussions with pastors of non-denominational churches concerning this situation, and now I see the exact same thing happening here on this site. I will use a community church in Albany, New York which I have close ties with as an example. On any given Sunday morning, the church is usually pretty much filled. There is a constant flow of new people who come to via the various outreach programs affiliated with the church. There seems to be few problems getting people to come to the services and other activities. The problem lies in getting them to come back. The number one problem in small non-denominational churches in America is RETENTION. The church can't seem to offer what the people are looking for or needing; so they move on to the next church. In the case of the church in New York, they do many new and exciting things and provide excellent opportunities for people to get involved via activities, counseling, Bible study and children's fellowship...

book review of "revolution" by george barna
Posted by:  john49   (Posted: 01/20/08 8:45pm)
George Barna is one of today's most influential Christian leaders. His book "Revolution" is a report of over twenty years of data collection and analysis on the status of Christian churches and followers of Jesus Christ. The book unveils what Barna describes as a "paradigm shift in the way a person views and interacts with his or her world." The treatment is uplifting in its characterization of the "Revolutionary" although it is sure to precipitate anger on the part of many clergy within the walls of the "local church." The book begins with David and Michael, two fictional characters having a conversation during a round of golf. The duo grew disenchanted with their churches and left, meeting in what they call "Church on the Green." Barna's fictional characters portray "born-again believers" who have left the local church for other pursuits that satisfy what is missing in the Sunday worship experience. David, the "Revolutionary," leads a life that "reflects the very ideals and principles that characterized the life and purpose of Jesus Christ." Whereas Michael represents a category popularly called "backsliding Christians" - "believers who (are) losing touch with God, the Bible, the community of faith, and (their) spiritual responsibilities." Both...

urgent: wake up church--you are needed today
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 01/10/08 7:44pm)
At times I look at all the horrible things going on in this country, and only want to go somewhere and weep. At times I look at the deceit within the Church, and I want to fly away to a different universe where purity abounds. At times I look at what parents do to their children, and it makes me want to scoop up all the neglected and abused kids and bring them here to live with us. At times I look at what children are doing to their parents, and I it just makes me cry, for in their rebellious state, they simply do not understand. There are many wonderful things to be thankful for within God's Word and within the Body of Christ. But, there are also many things that need desperate attention in the Church and within individual believers. Far too many believers close their eyes to those things needing reproof and correction because they perceive it to be negative. The cry for a warm and fuzzy Christianity is ruining the one true faith. Christians are people and people make mistakes. Unless those mistakes are lovingly confronted and corrected, they multiply and spread like a cancer among...

today's laodicean church
Posted by:  penguin   (Posted: 01/04/08 3:20pm)
Recently, I have been thinking about what has been going on in the world and especially how the church of today is doing. That has led me to study the seven churches mentioned in Revelation 2 and 3. What strikes me about this church age is that many churches seem to be similar to the Laodicean church. That concerns me because Christians who attend these churches are not getting grounded in the Christian teaching. Let me begin with the passage of Revelation 3:15-18. Here Jesus is telling John to write to angel of this church. "I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm--neither hot nor cold--I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitpoor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see."...

eternal security / once saved, always saved
Posted by:  miker   (Posted: 12/25/07 11:53pm)
Jude 17-24 This is a doctrine that has taken over in most of the present churches. It is a doctrine that states that once you get saved, no matter what you do, you cannot go to hell. I will show why this is one of the most dangerous doctrines out there. I am not writing this to be "preachy" or to judge others or to make myself feel better than anyone else, it is simply to teach the truth. PLEASE READ THIS BLOG BEFORE YOU JUST DISMISS IT! This is certainly not a doctrine that has been common in the past. This doctrine has taken root in our churches for one main reason: Americans would rather feel good than acknowledge the truth, and preachers would rather teach what sounds good, to draw people in, rather than teach the truth. Our churches have just followed the examples of the rest of our society. When you look around you these days, you will see that many people have chosen to discard personal responsibility. Instead of saying that someone or something is immoral, they say that "it's a disease" or "it's just genetic." People these days love to toy with evil and depravity....

god was happy with a tent!
Posted by:  blackrose65   (Posted: 11/07/07 7:27am)
I was checking out the blog, and there's that little poll at the top of the hompage. The most recent poll was asking about how close we feel to God while in church, or something like that... and one of the choices about feeling distant from God indicated that a lot of us don't feel close to God in church, and that it was the church's fault! BUZZZT! Wrong answer! Church buildings were/are a human thing. GOD WAS HAPPY IN A TENT! When everybody was grumbling at Moses in the desert, God commanded Moses to build a TENT!(Exodus 25 and 26) Sure it was a N-I-C-E tent!( the best materials the Children of Israel had went into the manufacture of that tent... Ex. 25:1-5 details the materials used- nothing but the best materials and colors would do! And it was furnished with gold furniture! I call that N-I-C-E!) But, it was a tent, nonetheless. If God had His way, there would have been no NEED for a tent! God wanted to talk with all the people at the mountain the way He communed with Moses, but the people were afraid of God in His glory- the thundering clouds, the lightning...

abandoned
Posted by:  coffeedateswithgod   (Posted: 10/19/07 12:46pm)
It's a long story with a lot of details. But suffice to say that I took the membership class and was a junior member of my church in high school. I left for college before I turned 18, so I was never able to retake the membership class and become an adult member. I have been faithfully attending a church here in Montana throughout my schooling. I never pursued membership here for two reasons. The first was that my stay in Montana was temporary and only during the school year. The second, and more important, was that I considered myself a member of my home church in New York and I know that most churches will not allow you to be members of two churches at once. Another long story short, I asked my church in New York to support me in my missions internship starting in January. I have to raise close to $4,000. I was counting on them to help. They informed me today, by email, that they will not be supporting me because I never became a member of my church here. Until today, I considered myself a member of their church in NY. Apparently they did...

galatians: chapter 1 "free to believe"
Posted by:  shorster   (Posted: 09/25/07 5:36pm)
Galatians 1- "Free to Believe." Paul wrote the Letter to the Galatians between 50-55 AD to several churches in Galatia which is now central Turkey. He began these churches and has heard that they are beginning to follow another "gospel" that states that they have to obey the Jewish law, especially the law of circumcision before they can become a Christian. "No!" cries Paul in this angry letter of freedom. Some have called this letter the Christian "declaration of independence" because it declares our freedom from the Jewish law as one that is free to live for Christ. In this first chapter Paul speaks directly to the churches. He is astonished that they are following a different "gospel" than what he gave them. He reestablishes himself as an Apostle whose authority is from God through Jesus and not any human authority. He tells his history as a Jewish Pharisee who was taught to uphold the law and even persecuted the new followers of Christ. He speaks about his encounter with the risen Lord (Acts 9) and how his life was changed. He became an Apostle not by any special training from the other Apostles but directly from Christ. Paul would...

abandoned

Abandoned Twenty years ago, on a bright, glorious sun-filled day, I remember rushing down to the altar to meet my beautiful Bridegroom. What an amazing feeling inside I had! I was going to be His Bride! Claimed forever as His and His alone. Is there anything more wonderful? No, certainly not. There I knelt, with tears of joy streaming down my face, looking up into the face of my Bridegroom, pledging Him my heart and soul forever, asking that He live in me and redeem me. Proclaiming that He was my salvation, my light, my EVERYTHING. I was HIS! All sparkly clean inside, I could see how my life was going to now be. No more suffering, no more shame, no more misery, no more guilt. No more. I was a new creature in Him. I was not the same, I was a NEW ME. Yet, what was I supposed to do? Where was I supposed to go? Who was I supposed to talk to? The OLD ME had OLD FRIENDS who did not know and certainly wouldn't like the NEW ME. Right! Church! That's where I was supposed to go. How silly of me. So, that's where I went....

what is church?????
Posted by:  songbird   (Posted: 09/10/07 10:15pm)
I have been wrestling alot lately with my undecisiveness on settling in a church. I keep coming back to the question of "what is the church supposed to do for me and what am I supposed to be doing for the church??" I get so confused with all the different denominations!! If we all believe in ONE GOD, where did all these different denominations come from?? Not God!! But MAN would be my guess!! So I have been searching out my answers in many places and through the thoughts of many people, and different doctrines. I keep coming back to the fact that every church I've visited has the same theory of their church being the true church of Christ and they have all discredited other denominations to promote their own teachings. I can't help but ask myself WHY?? Should not the focus be on being ONE in God's LOVE?? Why try to break the back of others to support your weight?? Should not your example be proof enough of your churches foundation being built on solid ground?? As I seek answers in the words of Christ,in the Bible, in the teachings of Paul,John,ex..... I have found they were all to...

there are answers!
Posted by:  letsreason   (Posted: 09/05/07 8:56pm)
Hello everyone, I have been around a lot of churches, at different levels of growth, and in leadership positions. What concerns me is that the focus of the ministry has become on how to run a good organization instead of equipping the Saints for the work of the ministry. The result is that a major part of the "Modern Church" is struggling to find the answers for life's curve balls and finding the perfect life as promised by the "Name It, Claim It" ministries. The larger churches, with pastors that have Michael Jordan's name recognition, are in cities that are collapsing morally but these mega churches are not out is the streets being "Christ Like" to those who need answers. If you are struggling with some issues in your walk then Let's Reason Together because there are answers. I don't know all the answers but we all know where to find them so let's do it. In Christ, Eric...

do we really need another church?
Posted by:  allforhim   (Posted: 08/24/07 3:50am)
My husband and I have come to the conclusion that our Mission Statement for our church is not what we believe. It is an awful feeling to have heart ties to a church that is headed down the wrong road. We are a new church and we are fledgling but our pastor has gone adrift so to speak and as our eyes have been opened we see so clearly the things that were set in place that is not biblical. The message was sent home last Sunday, our pastor wants to be a church planter, but is that the will of God? We support some wonderful missionaries in Ethiopia and when our pastor questioned them about him planting a church there the husband said "We don't need any more churches in Ethiopia! What we need is the Bible, so the Holy Spirit can work in their lives." And our pastor was taken aback, how could a country not need another church? As I ruminated on this I though about America, and really do we need any more churches? I don't think so, there is one on every corner. What we need is the churches to be walking in obedience to...

what is church?
Posted by:  allforhim   (Posted: 06/21/07 4:39am)
What is church? What does the Word say about church? I think us, here in the western world have lost the true meaning of what church actually is. It is not a big building adminstering a bunch of "programs" but the bride of Christ. His pure and spotless bride, but I am afraid we are sullied and are need of cleansing. The clearest picture of how the newest saints conducted "church" is in Acts. We didn't need to separate families and send the babies to the nursery, children off to Sunday School, teens to youth group, singles to their corner, marrieds in the marrieds group and the seniors over to their section. No, they all met in homes and ministered to one another. What was their main purpose? To disciple, edify and send out and proclaim Christ and Him crucified! Not to huddle together and hang with the Christians but to go out and make disciples of all the nations. That is our main purpose! My goal is not to diss any church but for us to take a serious look to how we view church. I see so many people just caught up in the busyness of serving and...
