In the Old Testament, when God instituted the Sabbath Day, it was a sign, it says, that it God that sanctify us. The Sabbath is another way to see the grace of God. There's nothing that we can do that can sanctify us or make us holy, but God himself. In a works gospel, man struggles to be clean and free. In a grace gospel God does all the work of sactification and salvation. But there's a twist to this idea, because God says, that by this will all men know that you are my decipile, if you have love for another. In today's circles, do church members, really love each other?
Or do they simply agree with what and how they think? if they talk about sports or cotedine things all day, then they just simply agree with each other and give each other comfort to talk and think about the same thing. Do we exhort each other to good works? We go to church we don't really have a real conversation with some one. We just agree what to say to each other. How are you? Fine. You look lovely today. You too. And it's over.We have a few...

What do you think of when you think about the POWER of God? Your mind may drift to the plagues in Egypt, or the splittling of the Red Sea. Perhaps you think about Samson, the miracles of Christ, or maybe even Christ's resurrection from the dead. To be certain, these are all displays of God's power. But often there is an aspect of God's power that is overlooked which I would like to address here. I believe it is perhaps the most important aspect of God's power for us to consider today. More important than the power of Christ's death and ressurection? In some degree, yes. Romans 1:16-17 says, I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last,a just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."
When is the last time you thought of proclaiming the good news of Christ as unleashing God's power? Paul clearly saw it this way. Perhaps that is why he continued...

We are the body of Christ, but where are His arms and legs!
I remember visiting a state park where an old church had been restored. They had no heat in the building and pews were wooden benches. There was not even an outhouse available because they believed back then you came to church to worship God not to be comfortable. There were opening called windows but there was no glass. The shutters were closed in winter and open for summer. It church was in the early 1700‘s before Michigan was a state in the USA.
Now we set in comfortable padded pews have plenty of light to see and even heat for winter and air-conditioning for summer. Still the church is changing. Many have been leaving the church completely. With all these human comforts, they still left. This has been happening sense the late 1950's.
I found this video at godtube. I am going to try and insert it into this blog because if you listen to the words, we can easily see where the church went down the wrong track. If I am successful, thank you happytoberestored for your help.
If we are HIS body; by Casting Stones...

Chapter Summary
Christ commanded his disciples to make every nation his disciples. So the missionaries who loved their Savior and Lord, arrived at Myanmar to proclaim his gospel under the rule of Myanmar Kings. Their mission works resulted in winning souls from different ethnic groups. Ethnic minorities could develop their identity because of the gospel. Then, God molded the church in Myanmar in order to be indigenous and self supporting Church under Socialist Government. Again, Myanmar Church is being made mature under military Government from 1988 to present. Myanmar society has become multi cultural because of globalization and free market economy which began in 1988. Many Christians of ethnic minorities migrated to urban areas and lived together with Bamar Buddhists. Therefore, there are more opportunities for evangelization in this period. Historical experiences should be used as the sources of the models for church growth in this period. Early missionaries used several methods for mission, such as literacy mission, person-to-person evangelism, educational mission, medical mission and agricultural development program. They could successfully contextualized the gospel among ethnic minority groups. Adoniram Judson could adept the gospel with Myanmar context. Present Myanmar churches should follow examples of those missionaries who used relevant message...

are we keeping the gospel relevant in modern times? |

Are We Keeping The Gospel Relevant In Modern Times?
Is the gospel cultural? Have we made it so? Do we bind Christianity into a cultural form?
We could say that during early missionary efforts to the East and the New World we saw a Westernisation of cultures rather than a "Christianisation" of people. In more recent times, the mode of modern missions to unreached people groups have increasingly adapted towards contextualised Christianity in order to remain relevant to diverse cultures.
I am not much of an academic and this is certainly not an academic entry but I am prompted by a basic appreciation of how Christianity is being contextualised to 'think aloud' about the relevance of Christianity in our modern world. The gospel is being contextualised to be relevant to the cultures of unreached people groups and a similar evolution is happening at our home fronts, should we oppose it? I'd like to look at this in simple terms to share a basic appreciation about one small aspect of "church" that is evolving. Let's begin by looking at two real world examples of contextualisation.
Real World Examples of Gospel Contextualisation
Fireplaces
I've met a frontier missionary who is among the...

a glimpse at modern missions |

A Glimpse at Modern Missions.
Elisabeth Puruto
The word ‘Missions' in Christian context often evokes images of people leaving their homeland for many years to come. Connotations of darkest Africa or remote Indian villages come to mind. The missionary family living in poverty, seldom receiving communication from home, often wearing inappropriate clothing, and suffering from dreadful diseases, like Malaria or Tuberculosis.
It is true, some missionaries are still away for some years at a time, and many, but by far not all, have very little money for their daily needs.
However, with the development of new mission strategies most Christians going out to bring the gospel to other nations are either supported by their church or friends and family. Although this may sometimes be an unreliable income, most supporters honor their pledge. Also, in many countries Christians are sought as teachers, nurses, engineers and therefore can work as tent makers to earn a living, as the apostle Paul did. He had learned tent making as a trade and used it for his support in foreign countries.
Some Christians, we call them frontier missionaries, are indeed called by the Lord to remote regions, where the gospel has not been heard before....

dealing with not feeling good, being poor and unhappy |

(Posted: 05/19/08 4:12pm)
I am constantly amazed as I continue to hear great men and women of God teach that God wants us healthy, wealthy and happy all the time. Every time I hear one of these messages, as I did this morning on my way to see two doctors, I first want to turn off the radio and then write a long letter telling the teacher why what was said is not entirely true. It bothers me no end because there are countless thousands of suffering believers out there drowning in condemnation for feeling like a sinner or an unbeliever because they are sick, poor or unhappy.
When I hear some of these messages they remind me of the old time "snake oil" salesmen who would tout their product as the cure all for whatever ails you. They were good at what they did and could always find enough naïve souls to buy their worthless product and then get out of town before they realized they had wasted their money. Hmmm, I am pretty sure there are still people doing the exact same thing today, especially on television in the wee hours of the morning.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not...

I may be given the chance to introduce a relative to Christ!! Her mother accepted Christ at a young age but has never followed him. She took classes in college so she "knows what Christians and other religions believe". She wants to start going to church because she is worried about her daughter. Whatever it takes! She is a very curious -child-of-God-but doesn't-remember-she-belongs-to-him person, she was full of questions when I visited her last. I wonder if she realized that any time anything religious mentioned by me was a response to her asking something. I prayed when I visited that the Spirit would shine through me, I know my prayer was answered. Not just because of her response, but because of everyone's response. I just finished a study of Matthew. I was not eager to go into death of the crucifixion of Christ, I was afraid of the emotions I would face. While I was studying, it wasn't my reaction to Jesus' betrayal, arrest, and crucifixion that affected me so much as the very different and quick (human) reactions of the people around him. I saw all those same reactions to me as a believer(with the Spirit shining) happen during...

how do we accept and narrow the wide gap from one to the other? |

How is the Bible Preached in different cultures, ethnic groups and economic class' of people?
Does the Bible allow for these variances?
How do we accept and narrow the wide gap from one to the other?
The reason you believed and accepted Jesus is vastly different than the reason your neighbor or wife or person living on the street did, though all reached the same conclusion.
Jesus taught this, we see it in Acts and Paul understood it, ‘I become all things to all men'. In Acts the Ethiopian heard and believed. Jesus never made a distinction from one man to another but included all; sure He spoke of how hard for a rich man to believe and accept. But no one was excluded from the cross, death and resurrection.
So we see the same Gospel being taught across the lines of gender, race, economic class' and ages in the Bible. Yet we don't seem to be able to make this work in America without some controversy. Perhaps, we are not teaching the heart of the Gospel, could be, we have to throw politics into the mix, or we just can't figure out how to reconcile our many and vast...

taking a look at the gospel of "godly bliss" |

(Posted: 05/08/08 5:39pm)
The transitioning of the Gospel from the spiritual to the physical and material has yielded a generation of pseudo-believers who seem to think the first time something goes wrong as a Christian the whole Bible falls apart. These people also seem to think that everything in heaven is for them on this earth. That the entire reason for their being is to be happy, wealthy and in perfect health all the time.
I heard someone speak recently about how everything in their life was the definition of "Godly bliss". This person had not been sick in years, had more money than they knew how to spend, had more friends than their address book would hold names and they had a smile that never came off their face. They had four beautiful kids who all got straight A's in school and excelled in all they set out to do.
Upon hearing this, I immediately thought I must be listening to a television or movie star. No one I have ever known has such a perfect life. Maybe some do that I don't know about, but what the person said next really bothered me. The person claimed that what they had and...

I am so excited in the awesome power of God and growing in my new found love for Jesus. I have been saved for nearly a month now and have experienced so much. I have to admit I have good days and bad days. Yet I think we all do. I do fall back at times into some of my old ways but then the Holy Spirit corrects me and it is such an awesome feeling to have this much love and passion in my life. I try and tell everyone about my new found faith and invite them to church. My problem with that is that sometimes I just dont know what to say to some of my friends that I have known for a while when I do get the courage to witness a little bit to them they look at me like I am a nut or something. I dont mind because I know I am trying my best with the Lords help to be a desciple and spread the word. I went threw the new members class last sunday and he gave me a couple of books to read, both are prayer books . It is...

(Posted: 03/26/08 6:37am)
A mark of true Christian maturity comes when a believer moves past the stage of "I want" to the level of "I want to give". Initially, after receiving the new birth, Christian life is somewhat equivalent to letting a small child loose in a candy store. Everything looks and tastes so good and you want it all at once. If a child eats all the candy at once, the results will not be pleasant. Newer Christians need to not be tempted by "candy salesmen" dangling things in front of them that end up being too good to be true.
Religious Christianity is full of so many crazy doctrines it is enough to make one's head spin. Literally, everyone seems to have tapped into the magic formula that will produce the perfect Christian life. Some use scare tactics that cause new believers to quiver in their boots and they end up following out of fear and terror. Some use carefully crafted sales pitches that appeal to logic and that just plain "sound good". Far and away the most dangerous are those who dangle a carrot in front of the nose of some new Christian promising them the moon in exchange for...

there is an appointed time of retribution |
 |
 |
Posted by:
literalword
(Posted: 03/22/08 7:09pm)
Over and over again we see our God is a God of appointed times. Before the foundations of the world God established an appointed time for everything to happen. In the Old Testament we see God appointing a specific time for each of the Feasts of Israel to take place. He established the exact time they would happen and they would not be honored at any other time.
There are many more things which can be said about appointed times and many examples and comparisons found in the bible of times appointed by God. However, that is not what this is about. This is about the appointed time of retribution for those who have contaminated the church with a false gospel. Their appointed time of retribution is very near.
God called us sheep for a reason. In His foreknowledge He knew if we were to understand then He must keep things simple. So, He spoke to us in a manner so the least of us would be able to understand. His Word is given to us in simplicity.
In His Word He clearly tells us who ever desires to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of...

Ever tried to witness to someone? That's a shocker. It will scare you out of your shoes. Bur witnessing is waling in Love. I mean you want to share the Good News, right?
But then you start thinking about it. "I don't want to offend this person.""What if they're not interested?" Or in some publicized cases, suppose you get arrested for sharing the Gospel? (Certain members of our society consider the Gospel truth on some sexual practises a hate crime, you know.)
Well, do you love that person enough to try?
Or how abut this scenario? You see some one dealing with an illness, maybe it's a cold, maybe it's the flu. Maybe it's cancer. Do you love that person enough to pray for their healing? Working the healing isn't up to you. It's up to God, but God's a gentleman, He won't get involved unless He's invited. How does He get invited? Through Prayer. Let me rephrase that question... do you love that suffering person enough to extend your Faith to pray for their healing? God still does the work once you pray.
Do you love that suffering person enough to try?
Or try this scenario.. you're dealing with...

are we loving the unsaved to hell? |

(Posted: 03/22/08 5:46am)
This is something I have pondered a lot. The church talks a lot about love and love as the main focus. Yes I believe that we should love and care for others, but is this kind of love really edifying the unsaved?
Our churches don't really preach from the Word of God anymore because they are affraid to offend someone. Is this love?
Our churches have programs for each age group, giving them mushy gushy stuff to make them feel good. Is this love?
Churches barely talk about how to witness and the importance of brining the Gospel to the unsaved. Is this love?
We have parties and movie nights and food and everything an unsaved person could want and yet we are preaching messages that won't save. Is this love?
We must preach the Word of God, we must be telling the Gospel, not mushy stuff that makes us FEEL good! We must preach Christ died. And WHY did He die? Because we are SINNERS. But no one will go out and sayt hat we are sinners because no one wants to hurt peoples feelings. We must sayt eh TRUTH in love.
We must present the Gospel to the...

(Posted: 03/17/08 8:09am)
Many of us say we live only to see the glory of Christ's return, but are we ready to endure what comes before it? This was basically the pretense for Christ's "Olivet" discussion of the end times found in Matthew 24 and 25. Jesus' disciples were greatly anticipating His triumphant return so they would receive their positions of authority and responsibility promised by Jesus earlier. In fact, Jesus had to reprove them for wanting those leadership positions right that minute.
When someone dangles something of extreme beauty and value in front of you, the natural desire is to grab it that very instant and enjoy it. But, if it is not available to receive just yet, it becomes something "hoped for". There is no uncertainty regarding such a promise, it is simply something unavailable at the moment, but will be available later. This definition of "hope" is far different than wishing something happens or becomes available which is how the world defines the word "hope".
There is no question about the validity of our hope as Christians. In the twinkling of an eye, in the amount of time needed to split an atom, in the shortest measurable increment of time;...

It takes humility and meekness to first admit mistakes and then learn from them. Pride and arrogance constantly fight against humility and meekness for control of our hearts. The battle rages daily and whichever one wins one day may lose the next. The struggle for our conscience is intense and ongoing. There never reaches a time in this life when the battle ends, except when we die.
Too many times we condemn ourselves for this wrestling match taking place. This is not a profitable thing to do and in fact yields negative results. Every person who draws breath and who is born again will encounter this "battle of wills" throughout their life. Let us examine the basics of this warfare.
Before getting born again, we have a nature which is sinful and against God. We were born with this nature for it has been passed down in the blood since Adam's transgression. Every person born into this life was born a sinner due to contaminated blood. The only person who ever lived that did not have this sinful blood was Jesus. This is because he was conceived by the Holy Spirit. When God "overshadowed" Mary and the "Immaculate Conception" took...

Jesus Christ does not demand every single one of His followers be a "doulos" or branded slave. Jesus does demand anyone claiming to be leader in the church to first be a servant. Those who are entrusted with the oversight of God's flock must take the next step in commitment and become a slave, marked with the brand of Jesus.
This may sound strange and undesirable, and that is fine, for not everyone needs to become as fully committed as those who willingly receives the "JC" brand. Not now anyway. But, there is a day coming when ONLY those who have "JC" branded on their forehead will be saved. Those same believers in the Book of Revelation who receive "God's mark" will be hunted as animals by the armies of the antichrist to be put to death. The reward in this life for being totally committed to God will be certain martyrdom.
Compare what I just said with the prevailing comfortable gospel preached throughout much of Christianity today. The "feel good" gospel looks real and genuine, but beneath its surface lurks dangerous doctrines and perilous theological ideas. Any gospel which appeals to the flesh and whose predominant message is physical...

I remember reading a blog here a couple of weeks ago talking about taking the flesh by the horns... I didn't think much about it until today, now actually. Some days are great for me; I look forward to life, to living, to being in the centre of God's will for my life. Then others I just feel soo exhausted I can't even get out of bed. I feel spiritually, emotionally and physically over-worked. Those are the times when I start thinking like an Existentialist, life is just soo futile; it's a "chasing after the wind". You know, there are those days when you feel young and attractive, and just so excited about life, then there are times when you just want to cry, even though you do not know exactly why... All you know is that it's just you againt the world.
I know that for most people reading this blog you probably think, "You need to get over yourself!". I suppose that it true, but I also know that my flesh feels weak because it is the main site for spiritual warfare. So when it tells me it can't wake up, it can't live up to its full...

joh the baptist represents the believer |

John the Baptist was a not only messenger for Christ, but a representation of the newly reformed believer as well. That is, he was a voice of one calling in the "wilderness," make straight the way for the Lord. This is important for two reasons. First, it is representative of the "voice" all believers hear when they are first condemned by the gospel. One may argue that the gospel does not condemn, but free. I argue that the gospel first condemns, and then frees. Did Peter not first condemn the crowd of Acts of the murder of Our Lord, and then tell them to repent? He did not say "you took no part in the crucifixion of the messiah, but be baptized anyway." What he actually said was more along the lines of "...and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross" (Acts 2:23). Therefore, without condemnation there is no sin, and if there is no sin there is no repentance, and if no repentance no baptism, and without baptism there is no death of the flesh, and all of this adds up to no salvation. While many argue the case...

sin is sin, hell is hell, and the question is??? |
 |
 |
Posted by:

(Posted: 02/21/08 9:37am)
I have been reading all the blogs about sin and I really don't see what the problem is. To me sin is sin. IN Matthew 5, Jesus says how if we think in our heart, it is just as bad as doing the sin. If we hate our brother, its like murdering them in our heart. If we lust after some one, then it is adultrey of the heart, which in Christ sight is the same as committing the act. It is about the heart and where your heart is.
Hell is hell. If do not accept God's saving grace, if We do not repent and belive in the Gospel, we are bound to Hell (Mark 1:15, Revelations 20:15). Why do we need to agrue the point of certain levels of hell? Why do we need to argue if a sin is worse then another. In God's view it is biggger than that. We must look at our life, if we have repented and turned from our sin and believe in the Gospel. ALL of our sins will be forgiven if we ask. (Mark 3:28, Mark 11:25, Acts 8:22,Acts 26:18, Ephesians 1:7, Collossians 1:13-15, 1 John 2:12.)
We cannot focus...

The first Protestant missionaries arrived at Yangon in 1807. They were Chater and Felix Carey which were sent by the English Baptist mission in Serampore, India. Chater left Myanmar in 1812 to establish a Baptist mission in Srilanka. Carey, who had gained access to the Myanmar court by his skill in smallpox vaccination, resigned from the mission in 1814 to enter the service of the court. The work of the Baptist mission was soon taken over by the American Baptists.
Adoniram Judson and his wife, the first American Baptist missionaries arrived in Yangon in 1813. For a decade, he spent his time among the Burmese people learning Burmese language, translating the Bible, writing gospel tracts, and preaching the gospel. His work among the Bamar, however, was not successful because the gospel which he preached was unwelcome by the Bamar who continued to have a strong Bamar-Buddhist national spirit. Maung Naw, the fist convert in 1819, and few other Bamar were the only converts won during Judson's work among the Bamar. Shortly after the conversion of Maung Naw, Judson went to Ava in 1820 to ask the king's approval for his preaching, but he was scornfully rejected. Meanwhile,...

"For even the Son of Man came not to be ministered to but to minister, and to give his life as a ransom for many. " Mark 10:45
As I studied this scripture from the Gospel of Mark, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "No more excuses." That's right, Jesus did so many things for us in his brief time of ministry on earth. The obvious are shouted from the rooftops and summarized so vividly in John 3:16. But often overlooked is this notion that Jesus "came to minister not to be ministered to."
Jesus, through his example, demonstrated to us how we should live our lives in service to God and to mankind. The Gospel of Mark describes so elegantly that Jesus was a man of action and that he genuinely loved people, all people. We have a tendency to overlook the leadership that Jesus provided in this area. We are so busy to notice the homeless man on the corner. We think the alcoholic lacks will power and self-discipline. We look down on the single mother saying she is having those babies out of wedlock just to get money from the government. The list of excuses...

Many don't really understand the concept of gospel music. To some, its just some routine music while to some to many its just another genre of music. Many times this is what informs the choice of singers to do or not to do gospel music. How far from the truth can you get?
Gospel music is the life of God reflected through the word of God in the form of music which is a deep expression of life. Music makes the soul merry. it can also make the soul dreary but not gospel music.
Gospel music comes with a message of hope for that change that every man feels is needed in his life. Hope that ordinarily may never be found elsewhere. Gospel music goes beyond the tune, tempo, style, melody and any such thing; rather it's a deep communication from the Spirit of God. It's a life giving music. However note that the manner in which it is rendered also matters. For it to be accepted and done properly, it must be done in spirit and in truth.
In spirit and in truth; well used words, yet highly under-rated whereas it's actually the key to living a victorious life....

I read an interesting article this weekend which spoke of Religion being mankind's search for God, and Christianity God's search for man. Amazing how this has resulted in there being many religions, but only one gospel isn't it? It goes on to say that religion is the word become word; and the gospel is the word become flesh.
We read that John apparently could not get over the fact that God had become man in the Person of His Son, and sustained that throughout the whole of his writings. The gospel unfolded the thrilling truth that the Son of God, became the Son of Man in order that us, the sons of men, might become sons of God. May we become more like sons of the Lord in human Likelrness.
Fantastic isn't it?
Philippians 2: 7 says;" but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness"....
