the risky business of "starting a ministry" |
 |

(Posted: 07/13/08 6:32pm)
I have acquaintances whom I served together with many years ago who started a ministry once they left the one they had been involved with for years. I used to think this was a cool idea and actually tried to "start a ministry" back in the late 1980's. It failed miserably. I guess it takes a certain kind of person with much more "charisma" than I have to succeed in starting a ministry.
As time has gone by and I honestly look at the idea of starting a ministry, I am disturbed by the very idea. I really don't understand the concept, actually. To begin with, what is the difference between a ministry and a church? I know the answer; I am just throwing out the question for thought content. There are many who spend their lives "planting churches". They go into a new area and they start from scratch and start a new church there.
But, those who start a ministry are not church planters. Ministries usually revolve around the gift ministries of the one starting them. If a person is a teacher, they usually start a "teaching ministry". If the person is an evangelist, they usually start an...

Hi Everyone I'm new here and I just want to get familiar with everything and everyone! I enjoy reading others thoughts and views. I also give my opinion on post that strike my attention. I usually like posting my personal poems that i write and see what others think. I am young (20) and I read my bible often, sometimes I come across things I may not understand and I like to ask questions and see what others think. Well I do have a question I would like to ask. I went with my friend to her church a couple of sundays ago and the preacher seemed very rude and overpowering and all knowing. My friend told me that he took a vote to kick some people out of the church because of the fact that they were smokers, owned a resturant that allowed smoking and sold beer, That doesnt mean that they are not christians and are bad people. I dont think that is right. Or am I wrong? He also said that if you do not have christ in your life, I dont think you belong in my church...I would think that he should come to those people...

Thoughts From Pastors Across America, Part 1
I felt it was time to put together a list of all the comments I have written down over the last seven or eight years that I have had the pleasure and honor of talking with pastors from across America and Canada.
Mostly I wanted to do this to try to bring them all into one file, rather then a whole bunch of different files on my computer, but then the idea hit me that I should publish these great comments, as many of them are just way to good to leave only on my computer and in my own mind.
Because of the type of conversations that I have with pastors, and the fact that pastors I speak too understand I have a "zero naming" rule in my life and ministry, I have removed from the below comments who said each comment, where they live, when they said it, and what they were going through in their own live and in their ministry -- of all which I have tried to keep track of while compiling this great list!
I hope that many people will find some nuggets of wisdom and insight...

I've just joined the community so I really don't have much to say at the moment. It seems like a great place for believers and I'm glad I found it. My great joy is the Word of God. It's a blessing there are places on the web where Christians can communicate and share our love of Jesus Christ. I have a techy side but nothing can compare to what it is like to be a child of God. After all these years I am still awed by Him and amazed at how much He loves us. I guess that is why I chose the user name, "66 books" it pretty much says it all.
I know there is a reason why I found this site today and became a member. God is always in the middle of whatever we do. But for now I just wanted to write an introduction and click around a bit and find my way around. Well that's my introduction. Praise the Lord....

Hi Readers!
It is very exciting to once again be part of a blog network. It has been a long time since I've done any blogging. I'm really looking forward to having a little place where I can share my thoughts and feelings and whatever other random information. Here's a little bit about myself to get started:
I live in Australia.
I am 20 years old.
I am in my final year of a Bachelor of Ministry at the Presbyterian Theological College.
I am a member of a Presbyterian Church here.
I enjoy youth leadership and children's ministry.
I am involved in an organisation called PYV (Presbyterian Youth Victoria)
I enjoy being on the leadership team for camps, and always have a great time attending!
I work casually at two jobs, one in retail, the other at a furniture shop.
I love the Lord and want to serve Him all my life in whatever area He calls me to!
I hope you enjoy reading and I hope my writings and thoughts will be a blessing to everyone who reads them!
God bless
Joy...

Hello: This is Hopes and it is my first try at Blog. I am excited about the possibilities of sharing messages of hope from how I have been blessed. I am currently in the process of doing some in-depth study with a spiritual group on Purpose. Defining and knowing your purpose is so important as one moves forward in life. It took me a long time to even think about what my purpose was even though I think all along God was shaping me and moving me into my purpose. I did not realize it at the time but the more I grow in Christ, the more fulfill I am. I now find that for me my purpose has nothing to do with me but everything to do with me. This seems to be double talk but since I have begun to reflect on this subject, I find that more of my purpose is reveal when I am in ministry with other. It is out of that motif that a little bit more of my purpose is reveal each time. How do I know that it is purpose? For me it is an inward experience and passion. I have especially...

I looked at the date of my last blog here, and it's been about 8 months. I'd love to say that everything was totally different, we had financially moved twelve miles ahead and that I am comfortably sitting in my lovely new home. However, all of those would be big fat lies. Things are much the same, except I'm not cleaning for people anymore. Back in late December, my knee started giving me absolute fits and I got tired of being on my knees all the time scrubbing floors. Also my car that had been given to me that previous January developed an issue that was more to fix than the value of the car, so my transportation was taken away.
Another development happened in December that sent me in a new direction, and I'm kindof struggling with a few things surrounding it right now. God had been dealing with me for some time in the area of ministry. I'm a pastor's spouse with 4 kids-- if that's not ministry, what is? This, of course, was my argument with God on the matter. But the topic kept coming up-- and God kept smacking me in the back of the head...

spiritual warfare 101; deceiving spirits |

(Posted: 04/01/08 12:07pm)
It is of the utmost importance that we look at various sections of scripture specifically relating to end times issues. First up is perhaps the most important verses of them all as written by Paul as he was nearing the end of his ministry in 1 Timothy 3:16 where it says:
"And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up in glory."
The mystery of godliness is indeed Jesus Christ. He was God manifested in the flesh. He was justified in the Spirit. He was seen by angels. He has been preached among the Gentiles. He has been believed on in the world. He was received up into glory. These are the things, according to verse 15, which need to be taught and lived in the house of God which is the church of the living God which is the pillar and ground of the truth.
Having just said all this, the very next verse states in chapter 4 verse 1:
"Now the Spirit expressly (distinctly and explicitly) says that in latter (later) times some will...

So here I am writing as MaxPower. The name is from "The Simpsons" by the way; from the episode where Homer changes his name to a hair dryer setting and, temporarily at least, gets more respect. I'm writing here because God is speaking to me and I'd like to let other Christians hear about it. I feel like God is drawing me to create a website, where I should publish articles about his character and his creation. Well maybe later on I will do that. If that is what he wants me to do. Really. Meanwhile, I'll ramble here and see what comes of it.
For the record, I'm not a scientist, but I am a logical thinker and I value the scientific method in general. I have a background in computer programming, which is arguably as much an art as it is a science. I believe that God has given us probing, critical intellects so that we can wonder at him when we perceive the beauty and complexity of his character and purpose expressed in his creation. And I do. Wonder.
I'll leave you with a scripture that is weighing on me.
"For now we see through a glass,...

Greetings To All.
The past few months have been an interesting experience for many of us here at ChristianBlog.Com - from myself as the owner of the website, to some new experiences for our Moderator Team, to a huge surge in overall new members (welcome to all the new folks out there), to some interesting challenges to our policies behind the scenes, to some interesting challenges to our policies by our members, to loved ones lost, and new loved ones added to our families (congratz baim), to a restructure of some of the overall design of the website, a huge change in our website navigation system, and much more I could talk about.
A Look To The Recent Past:
In the last part of December of 2007 I posted two blogs in which I felt lead to share with the ChristianBlog.Com Community a number of issues that had really been on my heart, a number of changes that were coming to ChristianBlog.Com, and even some personal changes that were going to be taking place in my own life that would affect the future of ChristianBlog.Com in ways that were simply unpredictable at the time.
I felt it would be good...

One year ago I had the joy and privilege of spending a few days with an old friend at his home in Virginia. This friend has led a small deliverance ministry for 15 years. He has never sought great fame or fortune, and indeed, lives in a rented farm house in the country with his wife and daughters. This was our first time together for any length of time in many years, and the fellowship was sweet and the time far too short.
Part of the reason we got together was to "compare notes" as far as what we were studying in God's Word and what we were learning in application. His long suits are in spiritual warfare and ministering healing. Mine are in prophecy and compassion. He is a recognized apostle and teacher, and I am a prophet and pastor. Although "majoring" in different things, there are many areas we overlap, especially in the apostle/prophet category. It was not that neither of us had any knowledge of the other's long suit, it was just the other had more experience and specialized in certain fields.
My friend took me to a creek where he goes daily to pray and "fight"...

Our promise is that we will have troubles and suffer persecutions in this world. In them we should rejoice being counted worthy to suffer as our Savior suffered. God uses trials, troubles, and tribulations which come into our lives for our good. Maturity comes with each one.
The time for the faithful will come when they enter into their kingdom. However, the kingdom is not now. The kingdom is yet to come.
There is a counterfeit and this counterfeit is no longer hiding in the shadows but is dominate in what is called Christianity. Promising riches, wealth, perfect health, and the best of everything in this life as our right being Christian. They even go so far as to teach we can demand these things and God must grant them.
One would ask why these ministries are so popular and the answer is simple. They preach things that feed the desire of the flesh. They also teach a false power in a "name it claim it" doctrine. After all, they proclaim, God must honor His word so you can demand what you want and God must give it to you.
The ministries who teach this heresy are perfect models with...

Five years ago, after a long, painful, exhaustive experience in a church, I heard the Lord tell me "Now you will begin a new ministry". I hadn't left that old congregation yet and, as I always did, I went to my pastor and told him what I was hearing the Lord say to me. His response was to tell me that I was being arrogant and walking out on my own. Sigh. I never even explained to him what "a new ministry" even meant and yet he assumed he knew and ran off with it like I had just told him I was going to be the next Billy Graham. (anyone who knows me would get the biggest laugh out of that ...) The things he said to me, well they don't need to be repeated but suffice it to say that if I wasn't crushed enough by this "man of God", I was when he finished. I slumped off, too tired and beaten down to even lick my own wounds, and tucked away the knowledge that the Lord was going to begin a new ministry in me.
When we left that church we said we would never go to...

I'm going to start my english writing ministry, seriously. Are you thinking the same question with me, "with this kind of english?" Of course, I would try to improve my writing technique and start from some basic article like diary and testimonial.
In fact, I am hesitated to start my english writing ministry as you can see, my english is still need some intensive improvements and it would take more time and time for me to improve and produce a meaningful and helpful article.
However, when I called back my memories, I realized that my chinese writing ministry is also on the same starting point. I start with few basic writing skills and many deep prayers. I pray, and contribute my time and knowledge to God, and yet my article can be published on the newspaper.
I thought God's power is not limited to chinese writing ministry but also on english and more miraculous, on malays. It is not about the language and technique, it's about the simple faithful heart for God. I believe through the prayer, I can produce my best article for God!
Whatever how hard it is, I would always remain my faith in God, and start...

my testimony: when god healed |

My Testimony:When God healed
Well my life started out as a child with only a 10% chance to live. I was born with a half of an esophagus and was put in the hospital for more then two months straight out of birth. Many Operations were done, but by the grace of the Lord, I lived. Call it a miracle or what it maybe, God had a reason to keep me alive.
Growing up with two younger brothers, we lived with an acoholic mother who'd seem to want to drink her life away at times. I never stayed in a place of "comfort" on most nights, cause she would always go from boyfriend to boyfriends' houses.
Basically from the years of six til thirteen, me and my brothers would experience abuse, neglect and it seemed like we never had anyone there to love us/care for us.
My dad was never around. My dad died at a young age, only meeting him once in a pizza hut. Things got bad as a kid, it really became second nature too see my brothers crying or my mother coming home 2 am in the morning falling over drunk out of her mind. Chaos...

I am so confused! I am a christian from a partial christian background. My mom is christian and i don't regularly to church. My mom doesn't know enough about what i am going to ask and it always ends up in an argument.
My questions are: What is lust and how is it defined. Does that mean that i cant have a girlfriend without committing a sin.
How does god answer prayers? By yes, no and wait?
What is Scientology?
Is it a sin to read about science vs. the bible?
Isn't Christianity almost like a cult? We all believe in the same god, including Judaism and Islam, with our differences. And isn't praying like a ceremony in a way?
Those are the only questions i can think of for now, but i do have more.
-Thank you-
From Confused Teen Trying to get both his religious and physical life straightened.
P.S. I have been praying to god but nothing happened yet....

Hello I am new to this site and I am not to sure how it all works. Let me start by introducing myself. I am a single mother of a 5 year old little boy. I thank God everyday for this blessing because shortly after he came into my life my husband was killed. At the time I thought my life was over and I started going to church and praying. The loss of my husband was very painful for me. At times I felt like I wasn't going to make it. I pushed myself to keep on going for my son because I knew that he needed me. It's been alsmot 3 years now and I have gone through alot of emotional battles and I am trying to get back in church becuase I need the lord in my life. I need his guidance. I've been blessed though. The Lord has helped me out so much....

Hello brothers and sisters in Christ , my name is Fallon, and I am from Northern California. I gave my heart to Christ at the tender age of four, and I have been passionate for Christ since then! I never went through that rebellious stage that most Christian kids go through when they're raised in a Christian family. Any hoot, I graduated with my B.A. in Liberal Studies in April of 2006, and I will soon be doing my student teaching. It's my desire to teach, and be a light for Christ, in the elementary school grade levels. God is good! Is he not? He is awesome! I look forward to reading your blogs about Christ, and about your struggles and triumphs for living a victorious life in Christ. Sometimes, it is such a struggle to walk in the Spirit, and that is why we need to remain plugged into God's word! Could you go a week without eating food? Yes. But you would be starving and in great discomfort. Well, our spirit starves for the word of God when we only feed it every Sunday on a pastor's sermon; Christians will remain as babies, who only drink milk, if...

1929; Watchman Nee, the disciple of Christ was walking along one of the roads in China. Does not have a job of social dignity, nor a popular Christian ministry, health is also down. While walking as if a beggar, with the help of a walking stick, due to ill health, suddenly a man came and held his hands. It was his professor who taught him at the college. He took Nee to a tea shop seen on the road side. Both sat down. The professor was silently gazing at Watchman Nee as if he had seen some thing unbelievable. At last he whispered to Nee. "You were one of the most brilliant students in the college. We were sure that you would be great and conquer heights in life. But....are you going to confess that you have been like this?"
"Truly, first I felt like weeping about my ruined life, when I heared it." Later Watchman Nee wrote. "But, all on a sudden, may be for the first time in my life, I saw the spirit of glory being filled in me where I made my self to be empty. The very thought that I could spare my life for...

No one knows much about the childhood of Jesus. We know he was born of a virgin and laid in a manger, is the Son of God, and in the flesh a descendant of King David. He was born in Bethlehem, exiled to Egypt, and raised in Nazareth. The years between the age of two and thirty, with the exception of an event which happened when he was twelve, are is quiet. All we know for sure is He grew up before God as a tender plant, as a root out of dry ground.
The ministry of Jesus began when John the Baptist announced His arrival, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!" Jesus was water baptized and upon arising from the water He was baptized in the Holy Spirit, endued with Power from on high for the ministry. After fasting, praying, and being tempted by the devil for forty days in the wilderness He had a brief stay in Galilee where He taught in their synagogues. After this He announced His arrival when he stood up in the synagogue and read part of the prophecy found in Isaiah 61 about the Messiah to...

blessing's of a "small group" |

Just wondering how many people meet in small groups?
We have been involved in small groups for about 3 years now. Three years ago a number us of who were distraught with the church we were all attending, because it was as though they didn't wish to release anyone and they were of the mind set that if people really wanted to find God, they would come bursting through the doors. Left the "Church" we were all attending and sought the Lord in regard to what are we really supposed to be living like, what is real Kingdom Living.
One of the Pastor's, having been dismissed because he had a vision from the Lord, to do greater works in way of Missions both internationally and within the City we lived. They said that it was not really the position of the "church" at that time. They said he needed to get with the program and take on the vision of the House, which really meant to build a bigger campus and more programs to meet the needs of those in attendance and nothing for the people outside the walls.
He decided it was a choice between being obedient to men...

street ministry |

(Posted: 12/11/07 6:38pm)
I've been searching for a ministry in my new mega church. They have a lot to offer but nothing seemed quite right. Tonight I called the outreach & evangelism line. Then I called a friend who said she would love to join me. Next Monday were going to meet in a park where we will all pray then we will split up and go to various homeless shelters where we will stand outside and serve the poor and homeless. Prayers will be offered along with pizza and a beverage.
I had shied away from this kind of ministry. Often I have found that people who get involved in street ministry are there for the wrong reasons. It's easy to take the focus off ones own faults and focus on what others are doing wrong if your involved in this kind of ministry. But the opportunity arose and when my friend said she would come I decided it was the right time. It's difficult going to church functions alone. This way with my friend coming, I don't have to feel like the lone outsider. I'll have somebody with me. And I think God did say he would send them in twos....

Some of my sisters in Christ and I have been fasting on Wednesdays for four months, to pray and discern God's will for the formation of a new ministry. My mentor had a vision for a new ministry, and a distinct vision for which ladies are to be included. Most of the ladies I knew from previously serving in ministry with, but one lady I hadn't met yet. So this past Wednesday was our last fast day, and we had agreed to meet for brunch on Saturday to pray together, to share insights gleaned during our fast, and to meet each those we didn't know. Of the initial six of us, only four were able to attend.
It was a glorious time. I thoroughly enjoyed the reunion with those I knew and felt glimmers of joy reawakening in my spirit. I also got to know the one I had not met. There was just an instant bonding as I stood face to face with this woman I had prayed for over the last four months, my sister in Christ who I'd never met.
I so believe that God has called us all to serve Him. I left a sweet season...

I found this site a few days ago right before my bed time. I looked it over and liked what I saw, so I joined. After I updated my profile and typed in my testimony, I had to get into bed! Life can be so hectic sometimes! I use to write all the time when I was in High School, but after kids, it's hard to find the time. I found that being a mother is the most difficult, but the most rewarding, thing that I could ever do. I greatly enjoy watching my children grow seeing each of their distinct personalities flourish with time. I also greatly enjoy teaching them what I have learned about God. I have only been a Christian for a few years and I find that my desire to learn God's truths are endless. I had never before read the Bible, so when started, I just couldn't get enough. After I got the basic down, I started on the hard stuff. My passion for the past 9 months or so has been creation. It is so humbling the way that this world was created and the love and care God has for us. I am...

Hi, everyone. It's great to meet new friends in faith. I am an emerging Christian poet and songwriter. My faith journey began straight from the hospital where I was born. The first Sunday I was home I was in the church nursery. In college, however, I strayed and didn't return to church until my late 20s. I did the typical, go to church, do some volunteering stuff. Lately, however, I have been feeling the tug of the Holy Spirit to spread the word of God in verse. It's been great and kind of scary at the same time. See, about 4 years ago I quit my computer job due to health reasons. After I took some time off to de-stress from work, I began to go to daytime Bible study classes. While I was studying, I felt the urge to write about the subject matter so I began to put some poetry together. Then I got together with one of the pastors at my church and together we wrote a song called "Human Son, Son Divine". So now a couple of years later, I am working on writing for God full-time. I am going to post a couple of my...
