"as the kansas family turns" final episode
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 07/27/08 5:13am)
In 1972 both my parents became involved with the same ministry I had hooked up with the year before. Within a very short period of time, my dad started manifesting the qualities of a "new man". The meekness in his heart was nothing short of incredible. Even though he had attended church (Lutheran, Methodist and Presbyterian) his whole life; he would be the first to tell everyone that he did not know God and he simply went every Sunday because he felt he was supposed to. Once he was taught how to read and study the Bible and especially once he was baptized in the Holy Spirit his life changed radically. It took him about 5 or 6 years to fully be transformed, but after he survived his brain operation in 1976, he really turned every fiber of his life over to the Lord. My mom tagged along, but she never really saw the dramatic changes my dad did. Of course she really didn't have the need to like he did either. By 1977 both of my parents were officially retired and after the death of my grandmother in 1978 they were able to really enjoy their lives for a...

"as the kansas family turns" episode two
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 07/26/08 3:29am)
In the next episode of "As the Kansas Family Turns" we start in a quiet neighborhood in Wichita. The two oldest children have moved away and have started families of their own. All that remains is mom, dad and the youngest child (me). These were interesting times in America, the 1960's. JFK had been assassinated and there was a huge change coming over the country. Week by week the conflict in Viet Nam was getting worse and more and more young men were being drafted to go over there and serve. There was also a rebellious spirit arising in the country and a whole generation of young people were coming of age who did not respect authority and saw their mission in life to destroy the evil American beast. Of course by the late 1960's the whole country was being split apart due to issues with the war, race and social values . From the time my dad reached his 50th birthday he was different. He had started attending meetings held by the local group of Scientologists and another group really into UFO's. Between his involvement with these groups and a ever deepening drinking problem, he was rapidly losing control...

"as the kansas family turns" episode one
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 07/25/08 7:44am)
The year was 1931 and the place was a little town in Kansas named Madison. My grandparents owned a store that bought cream from local farmers which was in turn sold to the large dairy upstate. There were thousands upon thousands of such stores scattered across the country, for back "in the day" this is how milk made it from the cow on the farm to the people in the cities who had none. My grandparents had five children; two boys (the first one died as an infant) and then three girls. My mother was the oldest girl, yet two years younger than her brother. The family lived in two room house with a front porch. There was no bathroom, no running water and only enough electricity for one light bulb. There was no telephone or television, but there was a radio and the town had a movie theater with cheap Saturday afternoon shows. There were no "rich" relatives in this extended family. My grandmother came from a large family of mainly girls who grew up on "farm" (an impossibility due to the hills) deep in the Flint Hills of Kansas. The family had a tough life growing up due...

wedding blues
Posted by:  tdsco   (Posted: 07/21/08 1:27pm)
Dear Lord, This wedding has now taken 5300 dollars from my life savings. No matter how many times or ways I show him I do not want this wedding he doesn't listen. It feels like he thinks he deserves this wedding, and maybe he does but before it is over I will have no savings. I am so mad at myself. Why was I not aggressive enough to make sure I let him know I did not want this big wedding. Now my son has a mom that has no job because I moved with him, too far to commute to my job or any job in my field. My son also has a mom that has no life savings or retirment. NEVER EVER Again. I am never going to spend money like this on a man again. Can you not hear my cries of agony. I know he cannot hear me. Somehow I have allowed myself to be everything I never wanted to be. I am a useless stay at home mom who lives in country suburbia heck. I never wanted to be a mom in the first place I wanted to be a career woman. WHY????? are you...

the risky business of "starting a ministry"
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 07/13/08 6:32pm)
I have acquaintances whom I served together with many years ago who started a ministry once they left the one they had been involved with for years. I used to think this was a cool idea and actually tried to "start a ministry" back in the late 1980's. It failed miserably. I guess it takes a certain kind of person with much more "charisma" than I have to succeed in starting a ministry. As time has gone by and I honestly look at the idea of starting a ministry, I am disturbed by the very idea. I really don't understand the concept, actually. To begin with, what is the difference between a ministry and a church? I know the answer; I am just throwing out the question for thought content. There are many who spend their lives "planting churches". They go into a new area and they start from scratch and start a new church there. But, those who start a ministry are not church planters. Ministries usually revolve around the gift ministries of the one starting them. If a person is a teacher, they usually start a "teaching ministry". If the person is an evangelist, they usually start an...

lessons
Posted by:  ichimj   (Posted: 06/20/08 4:16pm)
I learned a valuable lesson today. I took the time to read properly and add an entry to my prayer diary. My daily reading booklet spoke about forgiveness, about how we should forgive those who have wronged us, because how can God forgive us if we don't forgive others. And I started thinking, I've been holding grudges for a long long time; people who spread rumours about me, people who hurt me for no good reason at all... people who scammed me out of money. I thought some more, and write in my prayer diary about one person specifically - a guy who I was seeing before I became a Christian. I only saw him for four days, but he managed to scam me out of a significant amount of money, and just yesterday I was thinking to myself how I wouldn't be in financial difficulties if he hadn't done that to me. So I prayed that I would have the strength to forgive him for being deceitful, and asked for forgiveness for being so silly with my money in the first place! Not long later, I got word from my mammy to check my bank account - she had...

how much do you truly depend on god?
Posted by:  youaregolden   (Posted: 06/20/08 9:03am)
How much do you Truly Depend on God? This week has been on of the most eye opening weeks I have had. I have seena lot of how I depend on so many things and how it hinders the way I depend on and trust God with my Life. I was shown how we put so many things in place where God should be. My question is qhat would you do if you had it all stripped from you? Money One thing that I depend on and I know a lot of people do is money. If we are broke we tend to stress out. If we are rich we tend to worship money and the glory it brings us. Since I work at a bank, I see what money does to people everyday. So many times I have been yelled at by one of our customers because their account has gone into the negative. We are warned not to serve money, because then we will hate God and love money. That is putting way too much dependance on money, which will be gone and won't last forever. What would you do if you had all your money stripped away...

money matters :(
Posted by:  ichimj   (Posted: 06/20/08 3:07am)
I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the state of my finances, how I was waiting on word about my Disabled Students\' Allowance. I got word that I am in fact entitled to that money. But it\'s been delayed for one reason or another. First I got told that they were waiting on my consumables claim form (I get money for printer ink and paper etc), but I told them I hadn\'t bought any this year and told them to continue processing the internet allowance. It took them another few days and another email from me for them to tell me that they needed me to send the blank form with my signature anyway. So, I sent that off last week, they should have got it on Monday, and I have always been told by them that if they get all the paperwork by a Tuesday the money will be processed in time to be available in my account by a Friday. There\'s no money in my account. And, I got a call from the credit card people that I need to make a minimum payment of £25.83 by 30th June, otherwise I\'ll get put on a credit blacklist...

less is more
Posted by:  roselle   (Posted: 05/23/08 9:46pm)
Well sure seems so. Today was a day of various miracles. Went to work bright and early. Expecting the worst. When the boss lady told us she wanted to connect our computers all to the same network. She told us we could have like 15 mins out of the office. Me and the other co-worker drove to Starbucks. Anyway when we came back the boss and the other guy boss we still trying to figure things out. It was clear they were both lost. What was even more funny is that both of them were talking about their bosses and about how they could not work miracles. They could not hook up the computers set up the network and Skype at the same time. So after like 30 more minutes the unthinkable happened. They sent us home with pay for like 3 hours! I know! Be still my beating heart. Then our next concern was our checks. Would we get them? The guy boss was right on top of it because he then said"sorry but no checks because the computer is down"...There a collective oh no from us. Then the lady boss said he was just kidding and we got...

be a statement more!
Posted by:  godsgal   (Posted: 05/15/08 10:20pm)
Hey all!!! I'm so so sorry 4 not being on CB for a very very long time! Sorry! Anyway, praise God He is so good to me as always! I have to testify of His greatness because He deserves it!! Well, at the beginning of this year, I needed a new laptop for educational purposes! So I just learnt to pray not to be a question all the time but a statement! And so one night when I was alone in my room, I prayed: My dear Lord God, I really need a laptop, now, if it's Your will and if You think I need one I know You will give it to me! I love You and I trust You! Amen. I know, it might sound a little bit arrogant, but I think God likes it when we pray using our authority! So, i continued to trust Him for a laptop. Then, another night, He answered me and said: I will give you one but you need to be patient for in due time one will come. (It's that patient part that is so difficult sometimes!!) Anyway, I accepted that. Then a few weeks ago when I came home...

i need help!!!!
Posted by:  kiddtruth   (Posted: 05/13/08 2:13am)
I need help... i have recently been saved and turned my life to Christ and fully devoted myself to His will....but what i don't understand is what to do on a particular situation that i have come across.. and this situation will have a impact in my life... the thing I'm confused about is my girlfriend family, they are confusing me.... they all have been saved as well but when i first met them they seemed like they wanted to change and live a lifestyle for Christ, but as i got to know them more their actions spoke louder than their words.... these people were saved and baptized but after that they seem to feel like that's all they needed to do to make it to Heaven... we started taking Bible study classes at our Church and when specific commandments from the Bible came up that they did not agree with their attitudes became bitter... and they stop going to Church they stop reading their Bibles and just all around stop living for Christ.. their old habits of cursing, drinking, smoking came back into full use.... all because they want to do things their way and not God's and these people are...

questions
Posted by:  cowgirldiva   (Posted: 05/10/08 8:48pm)
I have really had a lot of questions about some really confusing things. (Or at least they are to me.) For example, is there such thing as eternal security? And what are the differences between Calvinism and the other side of Calvinism? What does God say about predestination? What I mean is, does God predestine who goes to heaven and hell? Or does he give us a chance to join him and it's up to us to accept the invitation? I've looked up tons of verses in regards to predestination but nothing has shed any light. Maybe I'm not diggin deep enough. But for God to be God, wouldn't he have to know everything? But if he knows and predestined some for hell, wouldn't he be a cruel God? I know he's not. These questions have been floating around in my mind for a LONG time and it's time they be answered. I've talked to my parents but they don't know either. We've asked some questions to out pastors but they just give us a round about answer. I like directness when I'm given an answer to a question I have. I've had a lot of things on my mind...

taking a look at the gospel of "godly bliss"
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 05/08/08 5:39pm)
The transitioning of the Gospel from the spiritual to the physical and material has yielded a generation of pseudo-believers who seem to think the first time something goes wrong as a Christian the whole Bible falls apart. These people also seem to think that everything in heaven is for them on this earth. That the entire reason for their being is to be happy, wealthy and in perfect health all the time. I heard someone speak recently about how everything in their life was the definition of "Godly bliss". This person had not been sick in years, had more money than they knew how to spend, had more friends than their address book would hold names and they had a smile that never came off their face. They had four beautiful kids who all got straight A's in school and excelled in all they set out to do. Upon hearing this, I immediately thought I must be listening to a television or movie star. No one I have ever known has such a perfect life. Maybe some do that I don't know about, but what the person said next really bothered me. The person claimed that what they had and...

he shall supply your need
Posted by:  davis36   (Posted: 05/03/08 8:47am)
God put me through a series of challenges over the last 2 years that developed my trust and faith in him. I run a business and found myself on 3 occasions unable to meet a critical bill. In each case the sums involved increased. The first test I required $5000 and with 2 weeks to go had no way of getting the money. At the last minute the money came via unexpected favor from my bankers. You would think that would remove any future doubt but it didn't. The second scenario was for a bill of $8,000. We had 20 days to find it and had exhausted all options. I thought surely this is it; the business has to be closed. The creditor was due to fly in from abroad and expected payment upon arrival. I remember walking up the road and the mobile suddenly ringing. A company called offering a loan. I had never heard of them before but they said they had spoken to me 5 months earlier and had put it in the diary to give me another call to see if my situation had changed. They processed a loan for me and despite some opposition the...

another day
Posted by:  richsongbird   (Posted: 04/29/08 3:55pm)
Today was a good day. As our pastor prepares to leave, my work as the Office Administrator is stressing me a bit. Not that anyone is doing anything wrong...it's like I live in a home where my mom and dad are fighting and the divorce is looming. Our pastor has resigned....or, announced his resignation -- and now the negotiations for his leaving, severance, etc are going on. It is inevitable that he will leave...and after several months it just feels like it's time to get it done. I will miss him, as he has be great to work for - but since we know we'll be moving on, I just feel like "let's do it". Any way - this day was a little stressful. Hence - the piece of cake I ate when I came home. Crud. Oh well. That will be all the indulging for tonight, unless I can include my hubby in some induj...

money! money! money!
Posted by:  karabomosupi   (Posted: 04/27/08 1:23am)
Over the past few years there has been so much criticism directed towards what has been labelled the 'prosperity message'. Many Christians have said that the 'true message' and the 'true gospel' has been diluted. I too have found myself asking "cant they talk about anything else?" But recent events in my life and a careful consideration of 'the times' we are living in has made me reconsider my position. I have now come to a realisation that we need the prosperity message now more than ever. It is my believe that the Word of God and Jesus Christ is relevant in/to all generations and at all times. The truth is that we are living in a time where money talks. We can not deny that we need money personally, as individual churches, and as a movement. This site itself could not have existed without any financial contribution. Individually, we need money for shelter, food, clothing, etc. The churches that we attend need money to pay for costs such as electricity, sanitation, cleaning materials etc. As the corporate church we need money to reach out to the poor by meeting their needs and practically sharing the Love of Christ with...

why i am so passionate about what i write about
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 04/16/08 8:48am)
My dear friends, I am posting this because I know that many of you do not understand, or do not agree with much of what I have been writing recently regarding the urgency of the times. I wanted you to know that I totally understand and interpret the overwhelming silence for what it is; the most common method of expressing one's disapproval of a subject matter. May I say in my defense that I did not choose to write these postings simply because I thought they were cute or able to promote my writing skills (or lack thereof). I write what I feel led to write for whoever may be blessed, inspired or at least challenged to consider what is said. I do not write for the glory of writing or to necessarily try to change anyone's thinking or beliefs. I write to simply proclaim what I feel led to announce for that is my only vocation in this life. While others have jobs to do, families to care for, churches to oversee and a multitude of other responsibilities to handle; I have been blessed by God with the time and wherewithal to devote myself currently to the task of...

no days off
Posted by:  mistletoe   (Posted: 04/14/08 9:35pm)
I went to work today. I found out that another person quit the job. This means I get to work on my days off, yey! I'm not really happy about this. I have honestly considered thinking about quitting my job simply for the fact that every one keeps quitting. That is a reason yes? I can see it on my resignation letter now. "Yes, I am quitting because every one else is quitting. " I feel like this job takes away to much from my own personal life. I have not been to church in eons. I was hoping to go wednesday, however I will be working. I will be working till the end of time. On the last day of the earth I will be working. I will be working and working and working and...you get the idea. I keep wanting to change jobs however I don't feel like that is where God is exactly leading me. I'm not sure on anything right now and really don't have peace in my heart about staying at this job or moving on to another job. I don't want to make another mistake on getting another job that will take me further...

another day
Posted by:  mistletoe   (Posted: 04/12/08 10:29pm)
work today was hard and boring at the same time. I seem to be in the position I think a lot of Christians find themselves. Balance between work and church. I have not been to church in months. The reason is my job. We rotate days off. It is suppose to be four on two off. So that places weeks in the mix where I can not make it to church. I understand that I can be a Christian and believe in God and not go to church. There is no doubt in my mind that there are people out there who are very set in their faith and able to stand in the world with out being in church. I met this wonderful lady who does not go to church. She and her husband both live very good and faith filled lives. I, however, feel I need church to help me threw things. I need a good church that will support me in my walk. My walk with God is sometimes not so stable. I slip and back slide like every one else. Church helps me a lot. Yet here I am working again. Not making much money either....

what are you giving to others?
Posted by:  kreynolds   (Posted: 04/10/08 12:41pm)
Back in 1983, after a church service, my husband and I noticed that a young college student seemed extremely upset. We walked up to her and asked her what was wrong. We learned she did not have enough money to pay her car insurance and as she was living on her own and was a commuter student, she didn't know what she was going to do. It was illegal to drive without insurance and she wanted to live honestly. My husband and I asked her how much money she needed. She told us. We looked at each other. At the time, my husband was back in school and neither one of us had full time jobs. Actually, we were two college graduates who couldn't get jobs during an economic crisis and so we worked two part-time jobs together cleaning office buildings. We were just barely making it ourselves. If we gave to her, it would empty our tiny (and I mean tiny) checking account. We told her to wait a moment and talked together briefly. We had just paid the bills which were due, had half a tank of gas and could stretch the groceries out until Friday. We made...

choose your master
Posted by:  thinkinoutloud   (Posted: 04/08/08 4:30pm)
While reading the book of Matthew I came upon this in verse 24 of chapter 6: "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money" On the surface this made sense. I mean, God or Money, take your pick. Easy, huh? But the more I thought about it, the more I began to wonder about those people with other passions. Some people are all about their cars, or sports teams, or animals, whatever. It seems to me that anything that takes your attention away from God could be substituted for Money. For me it's food and my Fiero. I focus on both regularly and that takes my attention away from God. If my wife and I are cruising around town with the sunroof open and tunes on, I'm probably not focused on God, right? To a lesser extent, the same is true when I am cooking or eating a great meal. What keeps you from focusing on God?...

economic storm warning: christians watch and pray
Posted by:  blessings2you   (Posted: 03/15/08 6:20pm)
One would think economic news would take a backseat this week, but to the contrary, it may make big news. As Christians we should strive to be aware of what is coming so as to be in better shape to handle things and to provide guidance and help to others. There is an ominous storm brewing on the financial front. Just as the Federal Reserve once again tricked the masses into thinking all is well economically through actions not taken in forty years on Friday; the atomic bombs of economic implosion were detonated. Clearly we are dealing with a classic example of "peace and safety" being propounded by the media while sudden destruction is looming just ahead. There is no way I can begin to express the severity of the current economic situation in this country except to say I would not be posting this at this time if it were not extremely urgent. What lies ahead in the coming weeks has the potential to cripple millions of households as they will no longer have enough money to buy food, gas and pay the mortgage. Credit is tightening at this very moment and the birth pangs getting ready to be...

lemonade stand :)
Posted by:  paprika89   (Posted: 03/15/08 6:00pm)
When I was little I wanted money really bad. So I told my grandma I was going to make a lemonade stand. My cousin and I made the stand and made lemonade. We stood out there at first for about 2 hours. After we saw that no one was buying our lemonade I got mad. I told him that I was going to change the sign and put: Donations for First Methodist crippled children. And the funny thing is that my cousin Mac had a broken leg! So we changed the sign and he told me clearly that it was a bad idea. I told my cousin Mac to shut up and let the money roll. In the first hour we made 30 bucks! The second hour some lady donated 50 bucks! We were rolling in hard cold cash now. We made 12 in the third hour and thought that was enough for my little pony castle play set I wanted. My cousin and I went into his room and counted the money. We split it half and half. When my aunt got home she brought us pizza for our hard work. She went into the kitchen to pull a...

god's plan is not always what you plan.
Posted by:  nickd23   (Posted: 02/24/08 7:40pm)
How often do we struggle with what we think we should be doing, and it is entirely backwards? How often do we lose sight of turning to God and His plan for yourself, and fighting against His will (which you can never win by the way!)? I have always been driven for accomplishments, success, making myself better. I could do anything that I wanted to do. And this was my main thought for the last almost past decade.
