hard questions for the honest christian |

Is it wrong for a Christian to speak out against that which is evil, corrupt and blatantly contrary to what the Word of God says about a subject?
Is it wrong for a Christian to be repulsed by the abhorrent behavior of people who are not the least bit ashamed of what they do?
Is it wrong for a Christian to separate himself or his family from the pollution of the world and either home school their children or send them to a Christian school?
Is it wrong for a Christian to promote wholesome, honest and righteous views regarding current situations?
If I, as a Christian, stand behind a pulpit and preach that it is wrong to murder someone am I infringing on a murderers civil rights?
If I, as a Christian, publically announce that I do not believe various sins should be legal, am I infringing on the rights of those who have the freedom of choice to make their own decisions?
If I, as a Christian, express my views in print or in speech regarding what the Bible teaches regarding any social issue, am I guilty of promoting hate?
These are questions confronting every true Christian today. We...

saw cool christian movie |

I saw this cool movie recently, it's called the parisian incident and I just wanted to share what I thought of it. Cuz I thought it was different than any other christian movie I've seen. It was cool. It's about this guy who wants to get his music with a label and when he's walking in paris these guys come up to him and then you see God move. It's cool cuz it's not real preachy so it would be good if you have a friend who is put off by that kind of stuff but it plants a seed and gets things going to talk about God. Oh, I also liked how it used music with the scenes it looks kind of like MTV. If you want to check it out go to Base 9 and see the trailer and see what I'm talking about. I just wanted to let others know that this kind of thing is out there and it's cool....

havent logged onto this thing for a while.
ive tried many times to get back to the blogging scene, and each time is an attempt failed.
i just dont think im supposed to do it.
i looked at my bio, and it was from 2 years ago, about. i am now a freshman in college, and the bio said i was a junior in high school.
it spoke of my aspirations as an actor, and those have now matured into the art of directing.
while i do not have my solo music project up and running anymore, i do find time to stay loyal to the local music scene, as well as listen and absorb as much musical culture as possible. i also play music with my friends a lot, in a sort of passing manner, but never anything serious. the closest i got was doing guest vocals at one of my friends bands gigs.
the only thing really taking off anywhere is my directing career. i have done 3 films of my own so far, and i have 2 more in the works, and 1 is planned for after that.
compared to some things you will find online, i...

Hi
I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Lisa I am a recently widowed to a very sweet and hardworking man who I was married to for 18 years. I am mother of four (20, 16,11, and 9) with one Stepson (29) and Daughter in law (21). Two cats and one very scared bird (kidding). God has carried us through these last two months in the palm of His hand. I am currently writing a book and several movies. I spend way to much time goofing off but that will change with my enrollment to collage starting in September. My ultimate goal is to get a Masters in Theology and become a missionary to Liechtenstein. I believe I am called there. I belong to an amazing church that is helping us through this very difficult time. Write more later. I have to get my son off to school....

I wrote a letter t a famous tele-evangelist that tells that he bases his messages on the bible alone. I like to listen to him as an exercise in truth. But in this letter I asked him how open minded he was to perhaps better understanding of the bible. I asked him how much was he was willing to sacrifice to preach only the truth. I know he is sincere and very diligent worker of the word. But perhaps this blog is not about him...That same day I went to an open-air concert where they promised to play "gospel" music.
I looked forward to hearing "amazing grace" or " In the Ghetto" by Elvis. But when I got there I took a small 'swif' of the music. I don't know if it was Jazz or the Blues or some combination. I left the concert. No, this blog is not about the music. It's about me and my "open-minded" directed letter that I had written earlier. I realized that I had become a little set on my ways a bit. I had become critical of some music I didn't understand. The park was packed, and I began to feel concern about...

casting crowns concert (live at roseville) |

(Posted: 06/08/08 11:48pm)
I had an opportunity on Thursday evening (June 5th) to see Casting Crowns live in concert at Adventure Christian Church in Roseville, California. (that's just outside of Sacramento) I have to tell you that Casting Crowns is by far one of my favorite bands of all time (Christian or otherwise) but to hear this band literally just move the audience with lyrics and music in glory to God, was not just a treat...but truly a blessing. Equally as enjoyable was the fact that I got to share this experience with my brother Chris who I had not been to a concert with since we both had pseudo-mullets in high school. That's 20 years and way too long. I vowed to take my little brother (he ain't so little anymore and he's a doctor now), to a CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) concert once a year now. He's very busy with hospital work but I think that to be able to commune with thousands of fellow Christians, listen to amazing music, be led by the Holy Spirit, and then walk away with a feeling of purpose...well, that's just immeasurable.
I know that Mark Hall and Casting Crowns will probably never see this...

I know this has been blogged a bunch of times, but I have a different side of all this. But to let people know, I am a strong Christian.
Personally, I dont think that it's bad to listen to secular music, just as long as it doesnt swear or talk about sex. I listen to a variety of music. I do love Christian music. But i really dont think its wrong to listen to artists such as Jonas Brothers, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, some Rihanna. Is there anything wrong with listening to music that melts your heart? Or talks about having an awesome time with friends? Those artists I listed above are my favorite. But with the exeption of Rihanna, arent sexual. So why is it so bad to listen to them? Dont get me wrong, I love Christian artists such as Natalie Grant and Britt Nicole. I listen to a lot of Pop music, but alot of times some artists dont measure up to my standards. So I dont listen to them. But I just dont understand how its bad to listen to songs that can apply to your life. Please dont get mad at me or say anything...

Let me briefly say what has brought me to where I am in my struggle with epileptic seizures. There has been A LOT of good that has happened through this, but there have been teaching moments for God to use through my struggles. I have been dealing with seizures (generally light ones - 20 to 30 seconds in length) since I was 16 years old. I have tried numerous avenues to eliminate them: several medication combinations, as well as two surgeries (1988 and 1997.) Both surgeries left me seizure free for a period of up to two years, but then the seizures returned.
However, through it all, I've been able to get two music degrees and follow the Lord's will into music ministry. I graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1992, began serving in the first of three churches I have been in until now, and have been able to pretty much do things the way I wanted to and felt like I needed to.
Then the Lord began to change some things in my life. After serving for 11 years in Batesville, MS, He then moved me to New Albany as minister of music in 2006. Just prior...

house to myself |

(Posted: 04/04/08 2:00pm)
For the first time in I can not remember how long I have the house to myself. I stumbled into my sons room to use the brand new computer. Stumbled is the word for it. His room is like every male teens room, It looks like a poster child for the word trashed. He had company last night and they evidently raided the local store for pixie sticks. I'm sure they bought the area out. There are no pixie sticks now in the state of Louisiana so if you are looking for them you will have to wait till the company can catch up on candy making. They also evidently had pizza. My son has a job and believes that a great majority of his money should go to the consumption of mass quantities of junk food I as a responsible parent will not buy for him. Earlier today the boys decided to jaunt over to his friends house to play a few rounds of something they call music before going to work. They practice faithfully for a band. I don't know if what they are playing can be called music, but they try hard. Now when they want to...

not how we worship, but who we worship... |

I don't know quite how to start out this blog. I want to discuss worship among the youth. In my church we have a decently large youth group. Wednesday nights we have our own service, where we have contemporary worship with music from bands like Hillsong. I have heard people say that this kind of worship is compromising, and that it sounds just like a "rock and roll concert". This aggravates me so much, because these are the services where i feel the Holy Spirit the most, and where he speaks to my heart the most often. Its the kind of music that will bring me to my knees in tears because of the Lord's love. They talk about it like its a bad thing. At my church they started a Saturday night contemporary services open for anyone interested and they are also anointed.
"Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity."

This generation needs to show how much we love God!

recommitment days! |

Lately I have been moved ( I am sure by the Holy Spirit) to examine my life and make the needed adjustments to line up with what is right and is in accordance with God's Word. I have been in spiritual decline since I got married. The cares of this world and my sinful nature led me into a backsliding state. I realized this all along, but was unwilling to change direction and get back to where I needed to be with Christ. But things have changed. I am ready to reclaim my former place if possible and follow Christ's way and live in the light. Which brings me to my recommitment day! This took place on March 17th 2008, as I pledged to...for 30 days...to do the following:
1. Stop using profanity. I am in control of my senses and I am not possessed by Satan...so I can do this!
2. Avoid Bad forms of media : Movies, TV and yes...the internet sites that are clearly wrong. This includes listening to secular music. Now I am not against all secular music and some is just fine...but for one month I am going to do without it and instead listen...

I am so confused! I am a christian from a partial christian background. My mom is christian and i don't regularly to church. My mom doesn't know enough about what i am going to ask and it always ends up in an argument.
My questions are: What is lust and how is it defined. Does that mean that i cant have a girlfriend without committing a sin.
How does god answer prayers? By yes, no and wait?
What is Scientology?
Is it a sin to read about science vs. the bible?
Isn't Christianity almost like a cult? We all believe in the same god, including Judaism and Islam, with our differences. And isn't praying like a ceremony in a way?
Those are the only questions i can think of for now, but i do have more.
-Thank you-
From Confused Teen Trying to get both his religious and physical life straightened.
P.S. I have been praying to god but nothing happened yet....

My husband and I have been attending the same church for about 3 years now and I'm starting to think about whether or not it is still benefiting us. Here's the thing, my brother-in-law and his wife go to the same church and I feel as though my husband might be afraid of telling them that we need to explore other churches to find out what's right for us. To me, that doesn't seem like a valid reason to stay in a place that we feel like might not be the best for us. What I am wondering (and this is why I'm posting) is how do you know if a church is right for you? Is it possible that we just don't see the benefit of this particular church and that we really don't need a move?
My biggest concern is that I personally don't feel fulfilled when I attend either Sundays or bible study. I feel as if the teaching is too doctrinal for me and that I am in need of somewhere that focuses more on life application. I also feel as if the music doesn't benefit me. I don't feel emotional, confronted or encouraged by any...

I've recently discovered listening to a wonderful local Christian radio station (thejoyfm.com), the wonderful, spiritual, message informed, moving, now-a-day Christian music.
I did stop listening to music, just sick and tired of the noise that some stations play, and the older stuff I use to listen to. I was just surfing the dial and came across a nice uplifting Christian song, so I kept the dial there, and then the next song was just as nice, and then the next, etc.... I couldn't believe such nice music existed. I'm 52 years old, and I can't get enough of some of this and I'd like to share some of it with you all. I travel some and I just wish it was played in more markets around the country.
I'll start with a song that whenever I hear it just touches me in a way, that I can't descibe. I hope everyone will do an internet search to hear this song, some of you probably know it. I know youtube has some vid's on it. It is called; Word Of God Speak, by Mercy Me
Spoken For is another great song worthy of mention by Mercy Me
I'll just share a...

Many don't really understand the concept of gospel music. To some, its just some routine music while to some to many its just another genre of music. Many times this is what informs the choice of singers to do or not to do gospel music. How far from the truth can you get?
Gospel music is the life of God reflected through the word of God in the form of music which is a deep expression of life. Music makes the soul merry. it can also make the soul dreary but not gospel music.
Gospel music comes with a message of hope for that change that every man feels is needed in his life. Hope that ordinarily may never be found elsewhere. Gospel music goes beyond the tune, tempo, style, melody and any such thing; rather it's a deep communication from the Spirit of God. It's a life giving music. However note that the manner in which it is rendered also matters. For it to be accepted and done properly, it must be done in spirit and in truth.
In spirit and in truth; well used words, yet highly under-rated whereas it's actually the key to living a victorious life....

Well, this is a first. I've read about blogging but never have done it. We'll see how it goes. I'll enjoy reading other blogs from Christians as the new year goes on. Especially as this is a very important year with the election coming. My family gave me a refurbished laptop for Christmas so I'm really enjoying it and look forward to some quiet evenings at home this winter with the laptop or my books. Alrighty then, I've got to make this at least 150 words in length. I don't know that I have that much to say for this first time. Hmmm. Well, I've had a nice Christmas...I'm off work until next Wednesday. My son is home visiting from graduate school. He's in his early 20s and is questioning almost every comment I make. He's a very strong Christian but a little smart-alecky right now. He is trying to figure out what he believes socially, politically, spiritually....not just what we believe as his parents. Well, I pray for patience and wisdom in my answers to him!...

my thoughts on what music christians should listen to... |

(Posted: 12/24/07 9:47am)
"And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." (Colossians 3:17)
"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." (Philippians 4:8)
Keep these verses in mind while you read this:
In 1 Thessalonians 2:12, Paul is encouraging and urging the people of Thessalonica to "live in a way that would honor God. He is the one who chose you to share in his own kingdom and glory."
From this verse, we understand that EVERTHING we, as Christians, do should bring glory to God. Everything includes the clothes that wear... the movies we watch. And the music that we listen to...
I often hear Christians tell me that it really doesn't matter what we listen to; as long as we like it, it is fine. But give it some thought; do you really believe that God, who loves you so much that He sent his son to die for you, doesn't care what we absorb ourselves in?...

Can You Hear the Music? Part 2 of 2
But Now...
The verb form of "making melody" is present active participle from psall. It is the verb form of the noun occurring earlier in this verse. It means: to touch sharply, to pluck, pull, twitch (LXX Jd.5.3 , 1 Cor.14.15 and in LXX Ps.9.12) pluck, pull, twitch, pluck the hair: especially of the bow-string, twang them, send a shaft twanging from the bow, a carpenter's red line (like the use of chalk line by a carpenter) which is twitched and then suddenly let go, so as to leave a mark. II. mostly of the strings of musical instruments, play a stringed instrument with the fingers. 2. later, sing to a harp, LXX Ps.7.18, 9.12. Regardless whether the translation uses "melody" or "music," the product of the redeemed heart is a beautiful thing. "'Psalms' seems to refer to the OT Psalter, which was integrated with Christian worship from the first. ‘Hymns' in pagan circles were sung to eulogize some god or cultic hero... ‘Spiritual songs' may be so designated either to differentiate them from the secular compositions or because they represent spontaneous singing in the Spirit. "The verb ‘to make music'...

Hey Everyone!
Merry Christmas! (Even though it's pretty early!)
I love listening to and playing Christmas music, especially as the holiday gets closer and closer. Some songs are really touching and make tears come to your eyes. Others are secular and are more up-beat and fun. Either way, I love Christmas music! My mom is getting really annoyed because I just started playing Christmas music on the stereo in the living room, and I've been playing Christmas music on the piano since September! Oh well, I guess everyone doesn't feel the same way about it as I do. Christmas music (at least the sacred stuff) really helps me focus on the true reason of the season: Jesus. It's easy to focus more on presents and lights and stuff like that (which I really love to, especially giving people gifts), but what we really need to do is focus on the ultimate gift of God's grace: Jesus' birth as a man (but still fully God) so that he would eventually die on the cross as the perfect man to take away our sins and bridge the gap between us and God. That is the only reason that we can be here...

I work the night shift so my sleep schedule is very off and I have a lot of time to think. I woke up tonight around 10 and started looking around my house all the "things" i have acquired due to my changing views on life and values and realized how lost i really am. As i walked through my house i saw all the testimonial possessions i have for the different obsessional stages that i constantly go through.
I stumbled out of bed to my first idol which happened to be a skateboard. I have always been interested in the more extreme sports and have recently decided to learn to skateboard. I met a good friend when i moved to California and we really hit it off. He skateboarded and i had tried it before and decided to give it another go because at least spending time trying something new kept me from coming home to find no one to talk to and it kept the friendship rolling along that was pretty much what my life was revolving around at the moment. I went home on leave to spend some time with family and that friend called me while...

Hey! I have NEVER blogged before, so be gentle and patient. (Unless contacting some tech on the computer for an appliance problem counts as blogging. In that case, I've blogged once before.) Anyway, I am the pastor and the worship leader for a medium-sized congregation -- an awesome group of folks -- and am trying to find sources for meaningful worship music and helps. (Yes, I understand that "worship" means more than just music.) What is working for y'all? My worship team is a great team, but very little motivation. Our services are encouraging. The music helps with that (thank you to Mr. Tomlin and Mr. Crowder, and the many others we use -- and, yes, we use CCLI) and even the older folks seem to like it (even the drums). Anyway, any help you can muster up is greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that the nearest Christian bookstore is 70 miles away and I am a very "hands-on" person. I don't just want to listen to ten seconds of music on the web!...

(This is the continuation of my post "Slayer and Scripture, Pt. 1" from above.)
Now, there is one question that remains to be answered: Is listening to secular music sinful or not in the first place? No, I don't think so. For the record, let me make clear that some things are, of course, clearly sinful (for example, covetousness, idolatry, sexual immorality, stealing, etc.). If it's forbidden by the Scriptures, it's a sin. This also applies to issues about which the Scripture spells out principles though a particular action isn't mentioned by name. For example, the Bible never says that pornography is sinful, but we know it is due to the fact that it's a form of sexual immorality, and all sexual immorality is roundly declared sinful. But some things don't necessarily fall into the category of being sinful or not sinful so easily. Not everything is completely black and white. Eating meat sacrificed to idols was one of those gray areas. I believe that secular music is another.
Here's why: Paul says that "nothing is unclean in itself." The meat sacrificed to the idol wasn't unclean in itself; it was what was DONE with the meat that was sinful...
