wisdom's invitation and man's rejection of it in proverbs one |

(Posted: 07/02/08 12:31am)
Proverbs 1:20-33 is one of the most brutally honest sections in all of God's Word showing what happens when man, in his arrogance, decides to totally reject the voice of wisdom and go his own way. Although Proverbs is not a "prophetic" book, what is recorded in this section describes what is happening in the world today and especially this country. People who turn their back on the truth of God's Word and walk away face consequences which are horrific and disastrous.
For the sake of clarity, I will be quoting from a variety of versions as we study this pivotal section of scripture. I urge anyone reading this to honestly take a look at these 14 verses in Proverbs chapter one. If I were allowed to only share 14 verses in all the Bible which best portray the condition of our country and what is coming; I would chose these verses.
In verses 20 and 21 it says in the New King James Version:
"Wisdom calls aloud outside; she raises her voice in the open squares.
She cries out in the chief concourses; at the openings of the gates in the city she speaks her words:"
Every possible location...

Evil Actions Leading To Death
As I read my devotion this morning, this verse literally knocked me to my knees.
On my knees is definitely where I needed to be, crying out to God for His blessed forgiveness for what evil actions I have allowed myself to undertake.
Reading this verse again, I remember what else we are told - that when we are tempted, we are not to say that any of us is tempted by God, for He is Holy and has no part in darkness.
Ouch.
How many times in my life have I cried out to God, asking Him, "Oh Father, why have You allowed such calamity and mayhem to come upon me in my life?"
Okay, reality check - it wasn't Him Who allowed it, but rather I who created it, through my own lack of doing what I need to be doing.
What do I need to be doing? Capturing every thought and seeing if it's "right thinking".
I define "right thinking" as what God would have us think.
If I really meditate on just this one verse of Scripture for a bit (for it is indeed NOBLE and worthy for me to set...

There once was a man named Elkanah and he had two wives. One of his wives was named Peninnah, and all the Bible says about her is that she had children. His other wife's name was Hannah and she could not bear children, for she was barren.
Every year Elk (as we shall call him) would go to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord. He would give portions of the meat to Pen (as we shall call her) and to all her children. But according to 1 Samuel 1:5 he doubled the portion to Hannah because he loved her and he felt badly because she was barren.
Pen was extremely jealous of the extra attention Hannah received and in verse 6, she is called her "adversary" or "rival". She would provoke and vex Hannah for receiving more. She would shamelessly attack Hannah for being barren. She was vicious and full of jealousy and envy. She just wanted Hannah out of the way so she could receive everything for herself.
Pen was relentless in vexing Hannah every year. It drove Hannah to the point of depression where she would no longer eat and did nothing but weep. Elk went...

I do like the in depthed look at how does the bible apply to you. Such as how does Jesus Want men to live for him and how does the bible apply to the saved man. The same principle for Woman is there as well. One can find this section at the communities link of...

You know those bible verses that when you come across them, you say "huh"? Here is one of those verses. Proverbs 27:6. "Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses." I came across this verse the other day, and I didn't get it at all. So I thought about for awhile, and I said, hey! Maybe it has something to do with true love! So I looked at it for a while, and decided otherwise. Then I said that it might have something to do with betrayal. But I thought about that, and I still couldn't make up my mind completely. But then it hit me. Although we haven't found any direct prophecies out of Proverbs, this may be a prophesy. Because of our sin, be nailed Jesus on the cross, but If we believe in Him, we are considered his friend. On the other hand, when Judas betrayed Jesus, how did he identify him to the guards? With a kiss. So as I looked back on the verse, it finally occured to me that both of my previous conclusions could be correct! God loves me more than anyone ever could! And Judas DID betray Jesus....

Word for May 11th 2008
Psalms:138
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life;
From verse 7 of the psalm we know that David is going through certain troubles in his life.He is walking in the midst of them.Yet,look at the attitude that David had.In verse 1, he says that he will praise God with all his heart. In verse 2,he says he will worship the Lord.In verse 3,he calls on the name of the Lord. How many of us are willing to do the same when we go through troubles? When in trouble, the last thing we want to and feel like doing is to praise God.But David did.He remembered the loving kindness and mercy of the Lord.He did not let his troubles keep him away from worshipping the Lord.Instead he walked through it with worship and praise.Verse 3 says that He called on the name of the Lord and the Lord strengthened his soul.In short, the Lord strengthened his will, his emotions, his mind to continue praising and worshiping him.The Lord gave him new hope.Even in trouble,he had the assurance that the Lord would perfect that which concerns him. What a wonderful state of mind to be...

taking a look at the gospel of "godly bliss" |

(Posted: 05/08/08 5:39pm)
The transitioning of the Gospel from the spiritual to the physical and material has yielded a generation of pseudo-believers who seem to think the first time something goes wrong as a Christian the whole Bible falls apart. These people also seem to think that everything in heaven is for them on this earth. That the entire reason for their being is to be happy, wealthy and in perfect health all the time.
I heard someone speak recently about how everything in their life was the definition of "Godly bliss". This person had not been sick in years, had more money than they knew how to spend, had more friends than their address book would hold names and they had a smile that never came off their face. They had four beautiful kids who all got straight A's in school and excelled in all they set out to do.
Upon hearing this, I immediately thought I must be listening to a television or movie star. No one I have ever known has such a perfect life. Maybe some do that I don't know about, but what the person said next really bothered me. The person claimed that what they had and...

Psalm 105:4-5 (NLT)
Search for the Lord and for his strength,
and keep on searching.
[5] Think of the wonderful works he has done,
the miracles and the judgments he handed down,
The act of searching is a act of going forward. This morning as I was reading my devotions these verse stuck out o me. Search for the Lord, we know He is right here, search brings anticipation which also brings an increase of faith. The faith really is point of contact with him. Then last two parts of the first verse is his strength and then keep searching, this just speaks of going forward. This his the clincher that we must think of what he has done in our lives that will increase our faith and give our strength to face each day.
That whole concept is pretty easy but also very challenging for us. I pray that you have a whole day of searching and growing in the Lord today....

We know in Matt 24 Jesus is speaking about Israel and His brothers of the flesh, the Jewish people. However, when Jesus speaks He has a way of speaking to all. Even though His message is specifically for His brothers in the flesh, the first part of this message foreshadows the Church.
Jesus plainly tells us in Matt 24 that during the Church age we will see:
(1) many coming in His Name saying, "I am the Christ"
(2) false christs will deceive many
(3) we will hear of wars and rumors of wars
(4) nations will rise up against nations
(5) kingdoms will rise up against kingdoms
(6) there will be famines
(7) there will be pestilences
(8) there will be earthquakes in various places
*** All of these are the beginning of sorrows and will happen during the Church age ***
Of these things Jesus said would constitute the beginning of sorrows, how many are visibly happening in the world today? Of course the answer is all of them. They are all happening and as each day passes they are happening more and more and the frequency of occurrences increasing more and more.
The thunders are sounding and...

Jeremiah 20:9-11: But if I say, "I will not mention him or ever speak of his name," his word burns in my heart like a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in, indeed I cannot. I hear many whispering, "Terror on every side! Report him! Report him!" All my friends are waiting for me to slip, saying, "Perhaps he will be deceived; then we will prevail over him and take our revenge on him." But the Lord is with me like a mighty warrior; so my persecutors will stumble and fail. They will fail and be thoroughly disgraced; their dishonor will never be forgotten.
Let's break it down.
Verse 9: If I say will never speak again in his name, his word will burn inside me, like a fire shut up in my bones, and as hard as I try I cannot hold it in!
Verse 10: Many people will report me to the law, or try to deceive me so that they can take their revenge on me, just because I spoke of God.
Verse 11: But the Lord is always going to be with me, and He is like a mighty warrior;...

dangers of taking scripture out of text |

(Posted: 04/04/08 1:49pm)
When talking to others, Christian and non-Christian alike, I am always amazed at what people think they know about the Bible gleaned from one or two passages. A case in point, Ephesians 5:22 "Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord." (NIV) I have had a woman tell me that this verse told her that she was inferior to men. And I have heard some men say that this verse gave them complete authority over their wives. Really? I suppose that if we were to read this verse by itself, then we can come to either or both of these conclusions. However, if we were to do as Paul directs us in 1 Thessalonians 5: 21, "Test everything. Hold on to the good." (NIV) then we would find that neither of these interpretations is correct.
If we develop our theology based simply upon a single verse or a single passage, we are in danger of heresy. We run the risk of leading some one astray, or perhaps chasing them from the bosom of our Lord and Saviour. Any theology we may develop should have the entirety of the Bible support it. If we fail to do this, then we...

the grace in which we stand |
 |

(Posted: 03/20/08 10:21pm)
Romans 5:1 and 2 provide critical information regarding our legal standing before God:
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."
It is impossible to have peace with God if sin is present. Sin separates us from God. Before we got born again sin alienated us from God. Jesus Christ is our peace and once He paid the price for sin, we were able to be restored back to the relationship of peace Adam enjoyed in the Garden of Eden before the fall. Peace with God is ONLY available through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no other way.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand. There is within the definition of "grace" two elements of understanding. One side of grace deals with "grace FROM". This is the "by grace you are saved" grace. We are saved by the grace of God in that we did nothing to deserve it and He gave it freely and without charge...

In 1 Peter 5:6-10, tremendous insight is given into how to keep from "flipping out" when things get tough and the spiritual battle rages unabated. These five verses are vitally important for us to understand so as to endure sufferings and learn a few virtues very important to master.
"Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God that He may exalt you in due time.
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."
The way we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God is by casting all our care upon Him. Instead of feeling obligated to figure everything out ourselves, we need to learn the art of "letting go and letting God" handle things. We still have responsibilities, and they come up in the next few verses, but in matters of trust, we must learn humility by way of casting our cares upon him.
"Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour."
We live in the country. Down the road about 3 miles is a wild animal sanctuary where a couple has rescued abused lions, tigers, leopards and other exotic wild animals. They...

grace: saved by faith, not by works |

(Posted: 02/29/08 4:33am)
We're studying through the book of Matthew this year in Bible Study. This week we're on Chapter 18 and the question was asked: Does Matthew 18:35 mean what it says? This is the parable of the King who forgave a great debt of the servant, yet the servant threw someone who owed him a small amount, into jail. The King found out and sent the wicked servant to jail to be tortured. Verse 35 says "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
Well, of course the verse means what it says. But if the verse means what it says, then how can that be? Forgiveness being a work, something that I must do, ERGO it does not save me. Jesus died to take the condemnation due to me. Romans 8:1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
So how could it be that God would condemn me if I do not forgive someone?
I really wrestled with it for a while, this apparent contradiction. I say apparent, because always when I think Scripture contradicts itself, it is because i don't understand.
So...

the steps in the rationalization process--1 samuel 15 |

(Posted: 02/11/08 12:21am)
The first three kings of Israel followed three entirely different paths. Saul started fast and stumbled soon after becoming king. His replacement, David, was anointed King, but had to wait many years until Saul died to actually become king. His son, Solomon had everything going for him and more; yet, his heart was turned away from God by his many foreign wives. Two of the first three kings became miserable failures and the third miserably failed, but remained a "man after God's own heart."
What is the difference between these three great men? They were all kings and they all walked with God for some period of time. They all committed horrible offences against the Lord. They all remained king long after their offences were committed. One was a mighty man of war, one was the wisest and wealthiest man to ever live and one was the living manifestation of all God is. The mighty man of war was wounded in battle and then killed himself. The wise and wealthy king followed other gods and forsook the God who had given him everything. Only the "man after God's own heart" repented in his heart of his sin and continued to...

Have you ever received a grant? What is a "grant" afterall? We hear the phrase "take for granted." And we have heard of or received for ourselves a money grant. One doesn't return a grant - it is a free gift.
I've been enjoying that word "grant" over the last couple weeks in a verse in Peter. 2 Peter 1:2 starts "Seeing that His divine power has granted to us all things related to life and godliness ..."
Wow! I haven't been able to get past that part of the verse yet, it is too rich! I mean, HIS DIVINE POWER. And GRANTED ALL THING.
All things that relate to LIFE and GODLINESS. Life is for life - Something intrinsic and inward. Godliness is something that is seen outwardly - others can see if one appears "godly".
Why would God do this? To produce overcomers. To prepare the Bride of Christ. To gain His heart's desire.
I've been granted. And so have you!
Receive it and be a grant recipient!

We saw yesterday that God requires of His people FLOWS (fear, love, observe, walk and serve). This of course came from the record in Deuteronomy 10:12 and 13. The record certainly does not stop after these two verses. In fact, some incredible nuggets of pure Biblical gold come in the following verses in Deuteronomy 10:14, 15:
"To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
Yet the Lord set His affection on your forefathers and loved them, and He chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today."
God could have set His affection on any aspect of His creation, but He chose to love Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the children of Israel and now US! This "setting of His affection" is a conscious and deliberate act on God's part. He has deliberately decided to love us, and I for one am humbled He did! Verse 16 says:
"Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer."
Circumcision was the outward symbol of consecration to the Lord. When referring to the "heart", it is designating total and utter commitment that the Lord, and He alone is GOD;...

Will He find faith on earth? Will He find us faithful?
Luke 18:7-8, NIV
And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
8. I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?
It always amazes me when I read a verse and think where did that come from? I must have read this scripture before, but today in my morning devotions it just hit me, will He find me a women of faith? How much faith will He see in the people who profess to be His disciples?
He will return I have no doubt about that part, it's us who proclaim to be His followers myself included, that I wonder about.
What is faith?
Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. NIV
In an early Bible study, we were asked to add this 41 verse to this scripture in our Bibles about our own faith. This is a personal thing. I am...

My new favorite verse is in Mark. "Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours" I have decided to claim this verse for my heart's desire to homeschool again. I feel that I am supposed to home school my older kids. We did it before for two years till we moved here. Now we are in a good school system here and they are in public school. It has been very hard for me to go with my husbands choice. He truly feels that this is the best place for them to be right now. It just baffles me. He really is sincere. So, this year has been an exercise in submission both to God and to my husband. Anyway , now that I have claimed this verse I feel that homeschooling is in our future. I don't know when or how, but the new confidence is a good feeling. Nik...

1thessalonians 5:11-22; simplicity of christian behavior |
 |

Posted by:

(Posted: 01/03/08 7:01am)
When it comes to Christian behavior, God keeps things real simple. He does not want there to be any confusion concerning how we are to be toward each other within the Body of Christ. One place, that is many times overlooked, that very simply lays out the basics of our relationship with each other is I Thessalonians chapter 5. After reminding the believers of the upcoming Day of the Lord, Paul begins addressing aspects of relationships starting in verse 11:
"Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do."
Our first and foremost responsibility to each other is to comfort and edify each other. We all need comfort at times. Not only when a loved one passes away, but when we stumble and fall down so hard we break our nose in seven places. The picture of a loving mother picking up her injured child is the best way to define "comfort". It is soothing reassurances that ease pain and anxiety. Comfort also means to encourage toward a more worthy endeavor. Without question, we all need encouragement.
The word "edify" means simply to "build up". As believers, we should seek to never tear down each other...

Faith Foundation
There is a verse of a wonderful praise and worship song that says, "Let everything I say and do be founded by my faith in You!" Early the other morning, I woke up with that glorious verse reverberating through my consciousness. (If you're wondering, the song is "Let the Praises Ring!" by Lincoln Brewster)
Then the verse jolted my conscience. I mean, think about it - "let EVERYTHING I say and do..." Everything is a pretty all-encompassing word, don't you think? To me that word means that NOTHING is to be left out.
Oh boy. The Holy Spirit was speaking to me through a song! Yikes, I thought. Can't a girl even get some good "praise singin" going without having a flash of spiritual insight blaze through her consciousness? Evidently not.
Of course, doesn't a GOOD praise song MAKE you think? Isn't that the point?
So, off I go meandering through my spiritual thought forest, to see what lay ahead of me. If you've never meandered, I highly recommend it. You might be surprised what you learn.
Well, I learned that while I superficially understand the "everything" part of having ALL I do and say be founded by...

So, I have been reading Romans a lot and I have to say my favorite chapter is 6. It is so powerful so amazingly true. So I figured I'd blog about it
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? [verse 1 and 2]
As Christian's we are dead to sin. But we seem to fall and ask for forgiveness (i know I do) too many times. We are making at if we are sinning just to see and make sure that God still loves and forgives us. But we shouldn't. When we became saved, we died to our sin...and we can't live in it any longer...
Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. [verse 3 and 4]
We have been buried by baptism (the baptism of the heart aka the...

(part II) The Journey continues...
Some time passes and Elijah has remained with this family. One day the widow came in hysteria and told Elijah that her son was dead. First, Elijah nearly eats all of their food and now since Elijah has gotten there the widow's only son has become gravely sick and has died. Was this her brook drying up? I'm sure Elijah was consumed with an abundance of fear and emotions as he takes the boy upstairs. Elijah pleads with God for the life of this boy. God tells him to lay on the boy 3 times. On the third time the boy was restored to life. (1st recorded resurrection in the Bible).
In verse 1 Elijah was known by where he had come from not by anything of his own doing but where he lived and finally in verse 24 the widow calls him a man of God and one who the Lord truly speaks through.
Back to the beginning when I asked about "Are We There Yet?"...In those passages (THERE) was a place where God provided.
Where Is There?
Elijah=brook and Zeraphas (widows house), Noah=ark, Daniel= a small prayer room outside of a lion's den,...

I first posted this last winter, but after yesterday's decision in California along with numerous other things going on in this country I thought it wise to give this very strong article a second chance to be read. This is the Word of God folks, and it could have been written last night, it is that current.
B2Y
In Isaiah 5:8-23, a series of six woes are pronounced followed by three judgment sections. Jesus had read Isaiah innumerable times in his life. He knew this record better than anyone who ever lived. Although he did not quote it in Matthew 23, it helped form the foundation upon which its "woes" are built. These six woes from Isaiah also provide a scathing commentary of current attitudes toward God and His Word. Starting in verse 8 of Isaiah we read from the NIV:
"Woe to you who add house to house and join field to field till no space is left and you live alone in the land."
Parcels of land in Israel were to be leased and not sold. The land had been assigned to families and was to stay in the family's possession for ever according to Numbers27:7-11. In Isaiah...

what was he thinking? |

What was he thinking?
Adam the first man, what was he thinking? It was disobedience to God's commandments that brought the fall of mankind and being removed from the Garden of Eden. Most people seem to focus mainly on the women, as if she alone was responsible for the fall of mankind. In the second and third chapters of Genesis, the story is told of the creation and fall of mankind, meaning man and woman together. They were both disobedient, sharing equally in the sin. The husband was not given authority over the woman because he was spiritual or intelligently superior, it was not a reward but part of his punishment. It is definitely not a blessing to be responsible for another human being. It is an awesome responsibility.
There were two trees in the center of the Garden of Eden, the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
In verse 17, God commands Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Adam received that commandment before the creation of Eve.
Genesis 2:21-22 Eve is created.
Eve listened to the lie of Satan and believed him. The verses...
