I remember once hearing a prophetess speak about a church she was asked to speak at. You know the time right before service begins when we chat with our friends about the week ahead or what happened the week past. She said she really listened to what was being discussed among them, none was edifying most was gossip. Then the praise and worship began these same people were lifting their hands in praise to Jesus. She then heard the Lord say to her, "Do you see their hands? They think I cannot see the filth that is still on them. In one moment they stir up dissension with their mouth then the next they are giving me praise."
There is power in our words we need to really get our minds around that. We can chose to use our words for edification or for the tearing down. We can chose to bless or curse. We can chose to bring healing or destruction. We are the ones that have to chose. It is so easy to get caught up in gossip. But like anything else that brings ruin it is something that we must show the door. We care what is said about us, we care about our own reputation. We must also get to the place that we care what is said about our brothers and sisters. When someone comes to stir up dissension tell them politely you do not wish to hear what they have to say. If you hear something that troubles you about a brother or sister instead of calling your friend down the street pick up the phone and call the one who the gossip is about. Let us try to be healers among the body, let us tame our tongue.
Blessings!
