You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5: 6-8 (NIV)
She was a sight to behold! She wandered aimlessly about the city, face streaked with dirt, snarled hair and a dirty dress which was ragged and torn. She was hungry, tired and afraid. How she longed to be loved and cared for but she was a very ill, repulsive-looking orphan. Indeed, she had a disease which was eating away at her very soul and would eventually destroy her.
One day, she heard the voice of the King, gently calling her name. She stopped for a moment and listened. How did He know her name? She started to move toward Him but then remembered what she was. She drew back into the shadows, trembling at the thought that He might see her.
He was dismounting his horse! Why? He was walking in her direction. He was coming straight to her hiding place. Oh no! He would find her and see her in all of her... unglory!
Gently and quietly He removed the barrier which stood between the two of them. The look in His beautiful eyes as He held out his hand toward her penetrated deep into her heart. A sob caught in her throat as she suddenly threw herself at His feet.
Now that the light of day shone upon her, she feared He would turn away from her in disgust... but He didnt. Instead, He opened up his hands and she saw the nail scars upon them.
"These were for you."
He touched her with those hands and as he touched her, she was transformed. She was no longer a poor, dirty, sick orphan. She was now... a beautiful Even when she was unlovable, He loved her and that my friends, is amazing!
May we never forget the Lover of our soul who loves us, saves us and continues to keep us. May we continually lift up His name in praise all the days of our lives!
