English: Yesterday, at the age of 33 a young wife and mother who attends my church ended her battle against cancer. She leaves behind a husband and two small children. I will always remember her smile and her joy... even in the midst of the darkness.
Wed met at a church small group in January 2007 and a few weeks later she was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. A little less than a year later, I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (breast cancer) triple negative. Usually negative is a good thing but when it comes to breast cancer, you dont want to be triple negative for that means it is highly aggressive and your treatment options are limited.
Due to our illnesses/treatment we did not cross paths often. We usually went to different church services as well but when we would meet up we would always hug one another and give each other words of encouragement. God was teaching us and giving us precious treasures as we both walked this path called Cancer. We both knew we were not walking it alone!
Now, despite my own battle with cancer and more recently a stroke, I am here and she is not. :(
While God is certainly able to heal, while He is certainly mighty to save, He is not our puppet and He will do things as He sees fit. We may not understand it but thats okay... God does.
As I thought about my friend, I recalled an old song my mother used to sing around the house when I was small. It took a bit of digging to find it but here are the lyrics:
1. Life is like a mighty sea
So tossed and driven.
Billows rise within the heart of every man
Storms so many times will
Leave the heart with questions
But I dont need to understand
Just hold His hand
Chorus
I dont need to understand
I just need to hold His hand
I dont ever need to ask the reason, why
For I know Hell make a way
Through the night and through the day
I dont need to understand
I just need to hold His hand.
2. When my life down here is through
And Jesus calls me
To my home up there, beyond the golden shore.
Ill look back, review the path
That lay before me.
Then I wont need to understand anymore
May we all tightly hold His hand!
Blessings!
