English: During the weeks before she passed away, my Pastors mom had the opportunity to share many things with her family. Michael has passed along some very personal, insightful moments. Much of it is quite humorous. As Christians, we are blessed to find humor and fellowship, hope and peace even when staring death in the face.
There was also a great deal of Christian insight in the things he has share with us.
One of her comments was: €œMichael, I just HATE your Good Friday sermons.€ You see, my rabbi tells things like they are, even when the news is not pleasant.
Michaels response: €œJesus didnt like it much either, mom.€
At this time before Holy Week Jesus had €œturned His face toward Jerusalem.€ He knew the agony that He faced there. He tried to teach His disciples. What He knew was coming was so far out of their experience that they could not really comprehend. They were expecting a triumphal victory in Jerusalem like that of a conquering general. They expected a new King David.
Jesus knew what lay ahead. He tried to teach. He kept his face toward Jerusalem. That was His purpose.
Next week is Holy Week. Palm Sunday celebrates Jesus triumphal entry into €œThe City of God.€ Between Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday, we learn many lessons from our Lord and Savior. We have the Last Supper, the time in the Garden where Jesus prayed for Himself, His disciples and for all believers (including us).
And then we have those agonizing, terrible hours between His arrest and His death.
We must face those events face on. We must feel the pain and suffering He felt.
Only then can we fully appreciate that most glorious day, the day Jesus arose from the dead.
And He did all this for us.
Amen!
Shalom, Art
