For many, when life caves in upon them and buries them under tons of debris, their woeful cry is one of "why me". Lamenting ones lot does nothing to change it. All the tears in the world cannot wash away the misery that leads people down the dark road that leads to giving up.
A lesson everyone and anyone needs to learn very quickly in life is that "stuff happens" and many times it is neither personal nor is it avoidable. Unfortunately, many people do not understand this and assume people and situations are conspiring to destroy them. A persecution complex is very dangerous for it drives a person into believing everyone is their enemy and to be viewed with suspicion.
We humans are complex in that we have emotions, passions, fears and the ability to formulate thoughts. Unlike all other animals, humans spend much of their lives worrying about what others think of them, how to make ends meet, whether their life is worth living and other lessons in futility.
Woven in between the lines of the time Jesus spent with his disciples is how He taught them and raised them up so they thought as He thought and could therefore do as He did. Jesus confronted their unfounded fears, their illogical logic, their ego driven desires to be head honcho and their reservations in totally devoting themselves to Him.
Jesus understood what was going on in the minds of His disciples, for He had a mind also. Jesus understood their apprehensions, doubts and fears because He understood just how fragile and weak people are mentally. Jesus understood why the disciples bickered with each other vying to become Jesus pet, why they could not see spiritual matters because they looked only through the eyes of the flesh and why in moments of great intensity they usually took a nap.
Jesus Christ is far more than just our Savior who laid down His life for our sins. Jesus Christ is our personal "Rabbi" who is able to teach us and raise us up just as He did His disciples. Jesus Christ is, according to Hebrews 4, our High Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses and therefore strengthen and help us in time of need.
Those who feel there is no hope do not know Him who is our hope. Those who feel they will never be good enough to warrant His grace, do not know that our main purpose in this life is to be to the praise of His glory. Those who allow their personal demons of doubt and fear to defeat them, do not understand that with Jesus help there is no excuse to fear.
If we did nothing else in this life but sit at the Masters feet and learn His heart and what He desires of us, God would smile and say of us as He said of Jesus; "This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased".
