English: When God Still Speaks
Its those little turns in life that really matter. Those times when were not really looking for anything in particular but see something very special... or meet someone special, or touch a souls life with Christs love without trying to minister to them. Its those subtle spontaneous turns, those decisions we think we made ourselves, but inside we were listening to the still small voice of God.
Do you think that maybe God still speaks today, or is it were too busy to hear.
The Lords beauty comes in the rested times when we finally stop trying so hard to do His work, or hear his voice and at last we see him in a little child or a courageous deed done by an unknown hero. Sometimes those turns are turnarounds, when the voice of God almost shouts at us to turn around and pick up a hitchhiker or help a lost soul somewhere that only needs a drink of water. How about you are you listening? To be honest most of us aren t myself included.
It seems were always waiting for some grand occasion in which all the angels will watch and clap their hands at our spiritual efforts. We want to be thought important enough that God would choose to talk to us verbally. Sometimes that happens, but the occasions are few and far between. We only have to read the stories of great fathers of the faith,Abraham and Moses.
God had spoken to Abraham early on of his calling to be a father to many nations, not once but several times. Abraham grew old and as time past gave up and had a child with Hagar his maidservant. He thought God had forgotten him so he took matters into his own hands. Even though Abraham had this wonderful experience his faith had waned. Moses heard the voice of God often, but really how often? Forty years in the wilderness and the people turned on him several times. Where was the water, where was the meat? God wasn t talking and Moses even had to wear a veil because the glory was gone.
There is a good reason it,s called a faith walk, this Christian life. God is still alive and still talking to his people, and yes he still does miracles. One of the main problems is that were still not desperate enough in our daily lives to take the necessary time for fervent prayer. We as a people in America our so preoccupied with our own agendas of over busyness and computerized lives that even if God were talking to us we probably couldnt hear. Once we are desperate enough and slowed down enough as individuals and as a nation things will change, but only the Lord knows what will take to make that happen.
Maybe God is talking to you right now or who knows maybe he did yesterday. So next time you get an inkling to break routine and do something different, to visit a sick friend , help an old lady or just enjoy a sunset instead of being a workaholic, maybe that s Gods voice. You could get one of those lucid moments when the Lord would use you unexpectedly and all of the sudden anointed words of prayer will pour forth and bring healing to someones life. He could speak to you on an evening walk as the sunset breaks out in vivid colors and you feel His glory. We worship a living eternal God who has given us the only true light in this darkening world. This is a beautiful and precious responsibility. As time draws near to Christ return we would do well to turn our focus to Him more often than we normally do , who knows we might hear something special.
