We are such a hurried race. In this fast-paced world of ours, we have been trained to believe that we need to be able to make snap decisions. Motivated by this cultures emphasis on values such as instant gratification, we often make choices based on the immediate benefits that we would gain. In addition, we want to make these decisions as quickly as possible before someone else seizes the opportunity. Certain actions need and often should be taken immediately; actions such as notifying the proper authorities in the event of an emergency. But then it seems that even for those decisive choices which could shape our futures, we haste; not spending enough time to really think about what we are getting ourselves into.
We need to be patient in our thought processes and allow God to show us where He is leading us to go. God wants to help us choose the right path, and He wants us to consult with Him through prayer and reading His Word. We know that we can rely on His counsel because He sees the bigger picture of our lives and He knows us better than we know ourselves. But if we simply pray to God for direction and soon after come to a resolution based on our own limited wisdom, then we really havent been still and allowed Him to speak. When we make rash choices, we set ourselves up for misery and failure. Thus, we cannot turn around and blame God for leading us into sorrow. In reality, the blame should be on us for being impatient and not spending enough time counting the cost with God as our guide. When we take the time to think through important decisions and ask God for guidance and clarification, we will find that the choice we have made according to His faultless wisdom was far better than what we initially thought of doing. As we wait upon God and allow Him to build up patience and wisdom in our lives, we will be able to rest in the arms of Christ knowing that He will help us make choices that will be in accordance with His pleasing, perfect will, and free of regret.
