What began as a comment on Alive In the Words blog about the Crusades, the Inquisition, etc. kept growing so I thought Id just put it together in a blog. What I see as an absolutely basic flaw in humanity, (regardless of what religion or whose teachings we follow), appears to me to be universal. I see it as our inclination to "look out for No. 1"...taking the best and biggest piece of pizza...making sure my neighborhood gets our share of the latest government goodie-bag. It takes the influence of His Holy Spirit to make me look out for my sibling, my neighbor, that homeless person down on the Boulevard. Where Abram allowed Lot to have first choice of the grasslands and water that time, it was because Abram had some sort of relationship with YHWH so he may have been trying by example to teach Lot to share. Then later Abram took the easy way out and agreed to Sarais fix-it suggestion which created his first son, Ishmael. Conflict resulted after YHWHs plan was allowed to develop in His time, requiring an adjustment of their household and, barring some better arrangement (Hint: already foreseen and the problem resolved by our Triune God), perpetuation of that human trait of "looking out for No. 1". This is why Americans, (who are thought to be Christians because America is a Christian nation, isnt it?) are as capable as the next person of being a terrorist...remember OkCity, the Unibomber, the KKK, and I didnt even mention our treatment of those who met the Mayflower, nor slavery and civil rights. So, addressing the current "hot spots" around the globe (which are the result of this flaw) with the fear we create in order to control one another is not a solution. Unless, that is, entire nations become totally surrendered to our Triune God and operate in constant communication with Him for His Will and Plan for the problem. And that is an attitude correction that we can begin right here on CB, on our knees. Or we can emulate Joshua, who when confronted by a Man with a drawn sword who identified Himself as the Commander of the army of the LORD, "fell on his face to the earth and worshipped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?" (Joshua 5:14b NKJV). I almost bless BlueTooth at times; it allows me to walk around talking to the Lord, and if someone thinks Im a little bit dingy, I just make my hearing aid whistle for them and they think I have the latest BT! Thats my take on the on-going drama, AITW, and it is my comfort when the Spirit in my heart breaks out in tears watching the evening news in Jerusalem, or reading a headline from Pakistan or Afghanistan. Blessings, PossumPrayerWarrior
