English: As part of the preparation for the writing of part 3 of a grouping of blogs discussing the timing of the removal of The Church (the rapture), I have prepared two supplements. The first drew your attention to the views on the Millennial (1000Year) Reign of Jesus on Earth and this second supplement will look briefly at the different views regarding when The Church will be removed (the rapture will take place).
I believe in and take a literal, face value hermeneutic (scripture interpreting scripture) approach to viewing and understanding the Word of God. The Prewrath position is what I believe is biblical truth. I am in agreement with it and support this position.
The Prewrath Position - teaches that the true Church will be removed (raptured) when the great tribulation (persecution) by Antichrist, inspired by Satan, is cut short by the Day-of-the-Lord, Gods period of wrath. The removal of The Church and the beginning of the period of Gods wrath will occur between the opening of the 6th and the 7th seal described in Revelation 6. This will occur sometime during the second half (second 3 1/2 year period) of Daniels seventieth week.
The persecution associated with the great tribulation of Antichrist is viewed as the wrath of Satan. Beginning with the opening of the 7th seal, the events that follow, the 7 trumpets, 7 bowls, and Battle of Armageddon, describe the wrath of God.
Another term sometimes expressed is "historical premillennialism." This refers back to the teaching of the early church fathers before 325 A.D. The early church fathers taught that The Church would face the persecution of Antichrist and Christ would then reign for 1000 years upon the earth. With the exception of two, Origen and Clement of Alexandria, who were allegorists, they all taught this view.
Prewrath is an expansion of historical premillennialism, which was biblical then and is biblical now.
The Pretribulation Position - first referred to as "the secret" or "any moment rapture." The founder of the Catholic Apostolic Church, Edward Irving in the late 1820s, first taught this relatively new position. Plymouth Brethren pastor John Nelson Darby, picked it up and first preached on it in 1843. It came to America in the late 1800s. C.I. Schofield popularized it when he revised his Bible notes in 1917.
Pretribulationism teaches that the return of Christ has been imminent since the days of the early church and that The Church will be raptured sometime before the 70th week begins. There is no Scripture that in so many words teaches this. It is taught that there are no signs and the rapture could take place at any moment.
The 70th week of Daniel is considered to be a 7-year period of Gods judgmental "tribulation" (hence the term pretribulation). This position generally views the 70th week as the Day of the Lords wrath from which the church is excluded.
The Midtribulation Position - emerged in 1941 with the publication of the book, "The End: Rethinking the Revelation" by Norman B. Harrison. It is taught that the Rapture of The Church will occur at the mid-point of the 70th week of Daniel. The entire second half of the 70 th week is looked at as the wrath of God and as a result the Church will not be here when God pours out His wrath on the earth.
The Posttribulation Position - There are a number of views. Some posttribulationalists see the Church in tribulation since its beginnings and do not view the 7-year period as futuristic.
The most prevalent view today is that the 7-year period is yet in the future, and that although the Church will experience this time of tribulation, it will be sheltered by Gods protection before the second coming. George Ladd in his book "The Blessed Hope" and Robert Gundry in his book "The Church and The Tribulation" both teach that The Church will experience the 7-year period, which will conclude with the rapture of The Church.
