Twelve legions of angels!
published . 1 min read
Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? Matthew 26:53, ESV These are the word of Christ, just before He was taken captive, the night before He was crucified on the cross. So how many angels make up twelve legions of angels? During the time of Christ, a Roman legion was made of us 6,000 Roman soldiers. So simple math, 6000x12 = 72,000 (seventy-two thousand). Now to put into perspective the fighting force power of 72,000 angels, take a look at Isaiah 37:36, which records an "angel of the LORD went out and struck down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the Assyrians", so if a single angel can take about 185,000 people, that would mean that those 72,000 angels available to protect Christ, would......
My friend harry

I have a friend, by the name of Harry. Harry is not hairy. Harry has been with me on every major adventure of my life for the last 25 years. Harry is a lizard. Harry is a plastic lizard. I have no idea why Harry is a friend, he just is. I have no idea why Harry has gone with me everywhere, he just has. I am not sure one could even say that Harry is a friend. Harry is a plastic lizard after all. But I can see Harry. I can touch and pick up Harry. I can put him in a suitcase or my Bible pouch, or on my truck dashboard. We cannot see God. We cannot reach out and touch God. Like with Harry, God does not audibly talk back to me. Harry is something I can see, something I can touch, something I can only have a one-way conversation with, yet I call it a friend. So how can something that I cannot......
Are you really a christian?

Christianity What is it that describes that word? It is a matter of Romans 10:9? if you will confess with your mouth our Lord Jesus and will believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. Or what about Acts 16:31? And they said to him, Believe in our Lord Jesus Christ, and both you and your household will be saved. Or maybe Matthew 10:32: Everyone therefore who will acknowledge me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. Or maybe as some within Christendom believe, the answer is in Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace that you are saved through faith There are also those who claim that Acts 2:38 holds the answer to this question: Repent and be baptized, every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus for the remission of sins, so that......
3 things i have learned more about god the older i've gotten
published . 2 min read
As we grow older we hopefully grow deeper in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Below are three ways that I have learned more about God the older that I have gotten. What matters, matters, ignore everything else. An older and great man of God that I once knew used to love saying "If the Bible makes it clear, we know the answer, if the Bible does not make it clear, we should not care." He was one of those rare few that when it came time to talk about the more, well, hot topic side of Christendom, rarely had much to say, because he understood that if there are things in this life that we as Christians should spend time focusing on, then those are those things that the Holy Text makes clear and focus on. The rest of the stuff is probably stuff that most of us should probably......
From bad to blessed
published .
Sometimes in life things just end up working out for the worse - beyond worse, just downright bad. Things that are outside of your control - beyond your ability to do anything about them. Things that make you want to throw in the towel - but not just the towel but the whole kitchen sink. Than through the gratefulness of others, the blessings of others, you find yourself being thankful. All of that happened to me last week. Things went from going bad to being blessed. Thank You!...
The lost days

The other day I was thinking about a Bible that has been sitting on a shelf, untouched, for about ten years. It was once one of my most cherished positions. It went everywhere I went. I preached from it twice a week for years. It went with me on oversea mission trips. I read it all the way through twice. Yet there it sits, untouched, for ten years. It has been calling out to me the last few weeks. Reminding me of all the time we had spent together. The treasures it taught me. The quiet times spent in fellowship. But I still have not reached over there and picked it up. It is not that I gave up on it. Not that I no longer like the translation it is. The best excuse reason that I can give is that it represents the decision that I made almost twenty years ago to leave the ministry of the......
Yippee! new beginnings

Romans 12:2 (peshitta) Do not imitate the way of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, that you may discern what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. It is never too late to remind yourself of Romans 12:2, which so sadly is a root cause of problems for the vast majority of Christians, with myself right at the front of the line. The ways of the world suck us in so fast, so easily, and in such a way that we seem to fail to notice it has happened, usually 'yet again'. Over the years, many years ago, that I published blogs under my other account @abelajohnb there was a constant battle between me wanting to be me, and me needing to be a representative, of such, of the ChristianBlog website. Early on I realize that what I wrote on my primary......
