This is the day after Easter. Our Risen Lord appears to His disciples and followers over a 40-day period before His Ascension. While the Gospels of Matthew and Mark end shortly after the Resurrection, the Gospels of Luke and John provide us with many details of encounters with Christ. More is spoken of in Acts and in 1 Cor 15. Even after His ascension, Christ appears to His faithful, most notably to Saul of Tarsus and finally to John as recorded in Revelations. Over the centuries, we have numerous accounts and testimonies of other encounters with the Risen Lord. I am reminded that we serve a Risen Saviour and call to mind His words to Thomas, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29) Yes, this is the day after Easter and it seems that we so easily forget. When I awoke this morning, my mind was on the papers I had to mark, the chores that I had to do, and articles and books I want to read. I am reminded that it is so easy to be sidetracked by the cares of this world and loose sight of the work my Lord did for me. I asked myself what makes this day any different from the last 7 during Holy Week? Isn't He just as holy, just as worthy, just as mighty everyday? May we learn what it means to "walk with God". May we dare to have our minds "dwelt on Him".
