Stepping up in prayer

"We must begin to believe that God, in the mystery of prayer, has entrusted us with a force that can move the Heavenly world, and can bring its power down to earth."#_edn1">

"Our prayers lay the track, down which God's power can come. Like a mighty locomotive, his power is irresistible, but it cannot reach us without rails."#_edn2">[ii]

The Bible is clear in the instruction to pray. In this life, many needs and situations that require prayer will present themselves. We know we are to pray about everything that worries us.#_edn3">[iii] Nevertheless, it is important to remain sensitive to the quickening of the Holy Spirit in our spirit.

We begin by praying with our own understanding, praying the Word of God over the situation. If, after some time in prayer you sense no quickening in your spirit to proceed, you should move on to the next prayer need. As you continue to lift up each need, after a time, you will sense the anointing of the Spirit on a particular request. This is a confirmation that what you are now praying for is what is on God's heart.

Prayer is our connecting with the will of God and praying that will into the earth. God's Word is His will and our starting place. We must know His Word, it is the power of God and the sword of the Spirit. Where can we go without it?

When we know God desires our prayer over a given situation, we need to determine what approach we will take. Much like preparing for a legal case, we must find precedent in the Word for our case before the Judge. The accuser most definitely will be present in the court!

On what platform do you personally stand before God? You must stand on your right to approach God on behalf of another based on the righteousness of Christ in you.

With that established, you need to ascertain what obstacles or demonic attacks are coming against that person. You can then take authority over such hindrances, to a point.

For instance, you can bind blinding spirits, deceiving spirits, occult spirits, etc. You can pray for other people to come into the individual's life with the message of salvation. You can loose revelation knowledge for them. You can pray the power of the blood of Jesus Christ over the atmosphere around this soul, thus interfering with demonic destruction. You can pray over their choices and paths, asking God to direct their steps and lead them. You can pray for the goodness of God to be seen and to woo their heart and lead them to repentance. #_edn4">[iv]

People can give demons a legal right to access their lives through their choices. We cannot deliver someone from his or her 'friends'. We can, however, pray for the atmosphere and situations around them and bind outside demonic assistance. Repentance, the rejection of falsehood and the acceptance of truth, are very effective means of deliverance. As the person sees truth and chooses to walk in it, deliverance will follow.

This truth is too often overlooked, with many seeing deliverance only as a prayer of command from an individual. Jesus said that if we would be His disciples we would know the truth and the truth would set us free!#_edn5">[v] As truth is accepted and adopted, the enemy loses his ground (legal right) in the person's life.

If the person in need is a believer who is being overwhelmed, you can stand with them in prayer. You can uphold the power of the Word of God in the realm of the spirit. You can declare the sufficiency of our God to keep them from falling and help empower them to stand. You can bind particular spirits that you discern are trying to push the believer out of their heavenly position. Praying this way will cause your words to encourage and lift them up when you speak with them. Your faith goes forth and strengthens your spirit as well as theirs.

"I look at a stone cutter hammering away at a rock a hundred times without so much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the 101st blow, it splits in two. I know it was not the one blow that did it, but all that had gone before." George Mueller on persevering prayer.

Most situations will need to continue to be held up in prayer, standing on what you have already prayed. Until you see things begin to change, you will be required to pray, war, and stand.

This specific type of prayer is far more effective than just a general repetition of “Please help them Lord” . It causes us to come into a deeper relationship with God and His Word. It also requires that we give of ourselves.

If we determine that we are just to pray and release it to God, then that is what we must do. Sometimes we encounter our own emotions entangling us, or we may encounter the enemy pressing us into worry and fear. We must resist this and anything else that is trying to move us from our position in Christ.

The more we step up in prayer the more the Holy Spirit will teach us what and how to pray. Remember, the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.#_edn6">[vi]

Let's pray!

This blog is so deep that only a writer who has been there could have penned it. Each sentence is so full of divine power that it cuts to the spirit. We would do well to save this blog for future reference.

May the Lord protect you and shield you with his banner of love mingled with the blood of his Son.
