For whose Glory

I had a very interesting conversation today with a young lady at work.  The topic was mental health and the conversation came around to healing, and why God does not heal those he loves.

Her arguement was ; "Surely a parent wants what is best for their children".  How can I disagree with that? , Yes of course a parent wants what is best, but the question is "What is best"  .  You and I look at life and all its pain through eyes that are tainted with sin.  Eyes that beg for release of our pain and not eyes that ultimately want that  which brings glory to God.  We want our kids to have the best that money can buy, so we spoil them!  We refuse to "hurt their feelings" so they grow up with no respect for others or even themselves.

We preach a health and wealth gospel that I find totally abhorant .  We claim we can have what we desire because God wants us to be happy.

Actually God wants us to repent of sin and come to Him through His son.

When our will does not align with God's action then maybe we ought to change our will!   I honestly believe that God died for our soul and not for our physical body.  For these bodies are temporary and are wasting away but the things of God are forever.

Would I like to be made mentally well?  Of course I would, to suggest I dont want it is foolishness at best and stupidity at worst.  But hanging in when life is hard is I believe bringing Glory to God because to constantly run after this healing or that healing takes aay from the things we should really focus on :  how to cope, how to live with an affliction, how to best manage a situation and how to allow God to carry us.

Hang in there!

Wow! You wrote:

Yep! Reading that, I thought about Paul's "thorn in the flesh". He asked God to remove it three times but God's response was not the one he had hoped for. "But he said to me, "My grace is enough for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." So then, I will boast most gladly about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may reside in me." 2 Corinthians 12:9.

I understand, for twice God made it very clear to me that I was going to have to deal with something. What He did promise me, however, was that He would be with me every step of the way and though I couldn't see it at the time, it would be for my benefit as well as the benefit of others in my world. Looking back over the past ten years, I can only stand in awe at how God truly does turn our darkness into light.

Joyce your right! Dealing with great pain for a long time is HARD! We can learn a lot when we go through hard times. It's important to understand that God LOVES us! If you love your child, will you make them sick? NO! If they become sick will you take care of them and help them? YES! God is not the author of mental illness! What gives God more Glory? - someone who is set free from great pain, torment and anguish of mental illness IN THE NAME OF JESUS and is now able to guide, counsel and lead many others to Christ, does this not bring more GLORY to God than one man managing His pain and trying to make it Home(Heaven). In the same way, that someone is SAVED and is now saving others brings GLORY to God, is the same way one who has been HEALED and set free and is now HEALING others brings GREAT glory to God!
We are in a culture and society that GLORIFIES sickness and disease - puts it on a pedestal, making it even bigger than God, IT IS NOT! God is not the AUTHOR - the creator of these things, the same way He is not the creator of SIN. He is saving us from SIN and SICKNESS. He wants us to have SALVATION and HEALING. He wants us to be DELIVERED from any mental anguish and pain. Why? Because HE LOVES US! He sent JESUS to rescue us from sickness, disease, darkness, evil and all things that do not GLORIFY God!
Yes Joyce, some things will only be able available for us IN HEAVEN, but RELIEF, PEACE and FULL HEALING from mental illness is available RIGHT NOW - because JESUS has PAID THE PRICE! Choose to BELIEVE! God Bless!
1 Peter 2:24
Christ Himself carried our sins in His body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by His wounds you have been healed.
