Millennial Day Theory Part 2

In part one of this series, I discussed the “Millennial Day Theory” . The basis of this concept is God has a 6000 year plan for mankind, beginning with Adam, and ending with the Second Coming of Christ. This 6000 year reign of mankind will be followed by Jesus' 1000 year Millennial Kingdom. This 7000 year design is presented in the Bible by symbolically using one day to represent 1000 years. This comparison is found primarily in the two following Biblical verses:

“But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.” 2 Peter 3:8 (KJ2, bold print added)

“For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.” Psalm 90:4 (KJ2, bold print added)

One concept in the Bible that prophetically points to God's 7000 year plan for mankind is the Sabbath. The word Sabbath is derived from the Hebrew word “shabath” (Strong#7673), and it means to cease, desist or rest. The Sabbath is first presented in Genesis when describing how God ceased His work after six days of creating the universe.

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.” Genesis 2:2-3 (KJ2, bold print added)

As God ceased from His labors after six days of creation, the Hebrews were instructed to model His example and work for six days, and then rest on the Sabbath.

For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day: therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 20:11 (KJ2, bold print added)

I believe the Millennial Day Theory is symbolized in the Hebrew Sabbath week.

First, the Hebrews rested on the Sabbath from their six days of labor. This was a temporary rest because they had to begin their work all over again after one day of rest.

After 6000 years of earthly labor, there will be 1000 years of rest in Jesus during His Millennial rule. This rest will be followed by eternal rest for all God's people.

“There remains therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also has ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” Hebrews 4: 9-11 (KJ2, bold print added)

Second, in Exodus God blessed the Sabbath Day and set it apart from the rest of the days, declaring it as holy.

“For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.” Ex 20:11 (NET)

Likewise, Revelation 20 tells us that those who are part of the thousand year reign with Christ are blessed and holy.

But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that has part in the first resurrection: on such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” Rev. 20:5-6 (KJ2, bold print added)

Third, in Numbers 15 we read the punishment was death for not keeping the Sabbath as a holy day.

And the LORD said unto Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” Numbers 15:35(KJ2, bold print added)

Similarly, the consequence of rejecting the Jesus' rest that is death.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8 (KJ2, bold print added)

Fourth, Jesus in the Lord of the Sabbath, and was born into the world to offer eternal rest for mankind.

For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.” Matthew 12:8 (KJ2)

In summary, the Hebrews worked for six days and rested for one day. This practice foreshadows the fact that mankind will labor for 6000 years, and some will rest with Jesus for 1000 years.

Parts 3 and 4 of this series will look at how the creation week in Genesis points to God's 7000 year plan for man.

“Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:” Isaiah. 46:10 (KJ2)

I am enjoying reading this series. But I have to hold myself back...and physically make myself remain calm.

Hope deferred maketh the heart sick.

We were really into eschatology. ..Hal Lindsey, Grant Jeffries, 88 Reasons the Lord is coming back in 1988, This Week in Bible Prophecy, etc., etc., etc.,

I never ever would have believed, back then, that we would still be here in 2015. Absurd!

So now I hope for the Lord's return, but I try not to get too excited, cuz the verse in Proverbs I quoted above is so true!

But, I am certainly enjoying this series.

Thank you for writing it.
